Northwestern HPME Part 1

Northwestern's HPME has started offering financial aid to intels as of this year.

Hey I am a senior from Michigan.

I know we are all shaking about these applications....I know I am....and worried about other candidates. Why don't we start a list for all 2006 applicants to HPME.

Please list Stats, E.C.s.....the Works

Good Luck to ALL!

has anyone here got any idea about the number of intels accepted in HPME and their stats...

sweet... just got the application in the mail today

yeah i got mine online a few weeks ago. How many people qualify for recieving the application?

700 to fill aout 50 spots

For those of you who mailed your app. request card, about how long did it take for you to receive your app. after submitting the request? I know it'll vary depending on where people live.

heyy ppl! :)

M17: I got mine pretty quickly (which was surprising considering I live in Canada...)- about two weeks after I mailed in my req card.

about 2 weeks

Am I done for?

Here's the thing --
ACT w/ writing: 35
SAT w/ writing: 2300
SAT II Math 2: 800

All APs, all As, Medical ECs/research, but....
SAT II Chem: 690.

Have my chances here all but dropped?

No I think your in good shape M17, im pretty sure that ur amazing ACT + SAT willl pull you through in additition to Im sure your amazing EC's.
I think your probably in the top 2% of all the applicants with everything you have, but u may wanna just retake the chem.........wouldnt hurt.

Do I Even have a shot?

GPA: 4.4444/4.0
Rank: Top 1% our of 546
ACT: 33
SAT Math: 800
Chem: 730
Bio: 770
Writing: 790

ALL AP's, NIH Research, medical E.C.'s, Sceince Fair,....other good stuff

Will they give consideration to my ACT which is okay.....because my SAT isnt really good. Or do I not really have a chance (honest answer)?

and for those who applied online after how many days did u receive ur online application?!

He highschool doc keep me updated with your process because my resume is strikingly similar.....but im a junior

wow, i haven't been to this board in a while. The more i think about it, the more i think some of these 7 year medical programs are looking for students with activites and ECs outside of medicine. Hundreds of applicants for programs such as HPME all have top grades, and done some research and/or volunteer work. What seperates these applicants is if they have a non-medical interest that they excel in, and makes them a more well rounded applicant.

amen to that. everybody in HPME is really smart, but what makes them stand out is how down-to-earth, well-rounded, and personable they are.

neom3x11, I agree with what you are saying with the well-roundedness. I feel, however, that HPME seems to accept students based on sheer stats alone, as no other program has such high test score averages. It is for this reason why, speaking for myself, that these programs are so scary 2 apply 2 because you usually see students with unbelievable stats, who may not be very well rounded, getting admission. In the end, BA/MD admissions are just way too unpredictable.

Well...to be honest, all the stats that have been posted are good enough. (I entered HPME this year and am in awe of some of the stats. ) The difference, as I perceived, lies in the essays and the interview. You need to be sincere and...naive. Physicians don't make much today compared what they used to. An ideal physician does medicine because she/he likes helping people or loves science. I know..this sounds cheesy but it works.

Think about these questions:

(1) Why do you want to study medicine?
(2) How do you relax or deal with frustration?
(3) What's your goal in life?
(4) How confident are you?

and incorporate them into your essays.

Good luck.

Thanks goconway, your advice will be very helpful in applying.

Does anyone know if HPME considers equal weight for ACT and SAT or is there a bias towards the SAT?

About how long should my HPME essay be - How many words?
Thanks in advance!
