Northwestern HPME Part 1

I got a letter today asking me to go up and interview... down in florida over here...

oooooo i just got mine 30minutes ago. i'm in GA... plane flights are expensive =(
p.s. their letter sort of confuses me as to what will happen. i suppose it will clear up later...

me too =)

when are you all planning to go for interviews?

mine's set for feb 7, and im spending the night. the interviews sound really really intimidating.... any current hpmers want to share their experiences? =)

the interviews really are not that bad. i'm in mccormick and so i had 4 interviews: doctor, med student, assoc. dean of engineering, engr professor. it's just really tiring because they're back to back and you can't remember what you've told which people.
everyone's interviews are different but be prepared to justify your reasons for wanting to study medicine (especially if you're applying for engineering). you'll mostly talk about yourself and your activities, hobbies, interests. as long as you're open and genuine and not phony, you'll be fine.

So if I haven't gotten any correspondance from HPME since the application, is it safe too assume that I didn't get the interview?

oh. interview.

Has anyone else heard from HPME? im getting really worried I haven't heard anything from them since I applied.

Please post rejections too, i know these are the hardest, but it would really help all of us others who are anxious to figure out if we still have a chance at an interview or not.

Thank You Very Much, and I wish you all Luck in Admissions.

nope haven't heard anything from HPME...not that i'm expecting very good news from them either... :S :S

My story: I live close to NU, and a good friend who goes to the same school as me was called last Friday (and later received mail) about her HPME interview.

So I was hoping... but I haven't heard anything yet, and I'm no longer expecting to. I tried contacting HPME admissions, but I was told I'd hear in a few weeks.

This, coupled with the fact that my friend already knows / is scheduled, has convinced me that I'm not going to get an interview. My counselor tried telling me that interviews are often held in "sections" - so some people are contacted at a time, and later more people are contacted. It might make sense, because my friend's name is much earlier in the alphabet....... but as you can tell this is just all my hopeful speculation coming out.

interview candidates are chosen on a rolling basis and interviews are conducted all through february.

Anyone else here back, acceptance/rejections?
......this is killing me why dont they just send rejections along with acceptances, I hate this sense of false hope.

my feelings exactly. :(

=/ hehhh im feelin a rejection comin.. but theres still hope!

So does anyone know if they only call in-staters or is it just random? Maybe because these ppl are kind of late, so they want to let them know? I wonder if they have "maybe" piles, like do they make a sure decision at first glance or they look over it a couple times if they're not sure, and you might get in on a second review.

do they have a quota for how many are interviewed? bc if theyre on a rolling basis.... what if they see alot of good applicants early on and notify them for interviews, but then they near the quota on the later apps, and thus ones who would have been chosen earlier are now passed over? that would suck....

Well, keep your heads up. The adcom office this year is extremely disorganized from what I heard due to the fact that there is a brand new 4-week old adcom head for the smed program. So, I think they are doing it pretty randomly. In the past they have notified people up to mid/late february. People who had the last of the last interviews and were in fact accepted to the hpme program.

A bit of comfort:

I recieved an invitation to go interview and when I called and tried to reserve Feb. 27th they said that they were reserving that week for the next "batch" (I suppose) of applicants.

oh and by the way... if we get called back for an interview for HPME.. does that mean we're most likely accepted to the undergraduate? ugh the uncertainty is killing me

Hi all,

I'm an international applicant currently living overseas in Shanghai, PRC. Seeing as how it would be highly inconvenient (not to mention expensive) for me to travel to Northwestern on such short notice, does anyone know whether HPME conducts long-distance interviews, perhaps over the phone? Thanks in advance for any advice that you guys can provide!
