Northwestern HPME Part 1

yes, many people conduct phone interviews

My school messed up and sent two transcripts to Northwestern Undergrad so I didn't realize they didn't have my transcript for weeks. Then, I figured it out and sent them another transcript on Jan 6th. They didn't get it week after week. Finally, fed up, I overnighted another one near the end of January.

They told me that my file was complete on Feb 1st. Am I completely screwed for interviews?

the same happened to me too. my mom called them to fix everything and she said that the lady seemed quite nice and they weren't annoyed. but then again, that's just what my mom said, so i'm not sure if thats completely true...

i hope they're ok with it, cuz then we're in the same boat =</p>

Well, tasha, a man who answered when I called told me that unless my app was complete by January 15th, it wasn't going to go through. That was the "final" deadline. When I called again, it was the lady who answered and she didn't say anything about my app not being reviewed. Who should I believe?

Try to call before 3-4ish, because then I think it's the man. The lady who answers the phone should be Eve Veis, the Coordinator or something of the program. I would bet what she says is probably accurate, but I'm not sure. Try to call again, and make sure you stress your situation as clearly as you typed it up above, and try to call sometime during the day if you can.

so... i hadn't heard from them since my application, so i called them up to see if i would be a candidate for an interview. the guy said no, and when i asked if that meant i was no longer a candidate for the program as a whole, i got another no. oh well.... good luck to the rest of you though =b

That's terrible. Why do the lady and the man say different things?

Northwestern does not give international interviews.

So does anyone know that if all interview invites are already all out?

GirlCalais, are you sure that international HPME applicants do not receive interviews at all? How else does HPME screen internationals?

Regardless, there have been internationals in HPME. One of the HPMEs came from Korea when I was there.

lostintranslation, since you have received an interview for HPME, you most likely got into Northwestern Undergrad. I say most likely because I have heard horror stories of people getting interviewed and then later getting waitlisted/rejected from Northwestern Ugrad. Hope this helps :)

Would I be having my interview one on one with the interviewer,
or would a group of interviewers sit in front of me and watch how I answer their questions?

Also, what do they ask to HPME interviewees?

I'm having my interview on the 13th and I'm so nervous! :(

The interviews are one on one. They're totally relaxed and uber cool people. The questions are like any other college interview, except of the course an emphasis on why you want to do HPME and/or medicine. No worries, enjoy the campus visit =)

Do the interviewers get to see my application
or are they completely unaware of what I did for extra curr.,
my scores and etc?

Also, do they ask about ethical issues about stem cells, abortion and etc.?

if you have not gotten contacted by now is all hope lost? Should I call or should I give up? Is there anywhere to check about your status?

nah people are still getting notified. The interviewers do have all your app mateirals so they know about you beforehand. but as therestissilence mentioned, the interviews are pretty relaxed and casual; they dont ask you tough medical questions. so good luck!

Hi,
My SAT I score is 2340 (CR 800, Math 800, Writing 740)
SAT II: Math II C 800, Chem 700, Bio 800, Lit 780.
My Chem score is not great.
Bio and Lit scores don't count. Am I right?
Do I have a chance for an interview?
I live in CA.
thanks!!

Does anybody know how important the interview is?

as far as I know, the interview is very important. Unlike college interviews, where the interviewer merely writes you a letter of recommendation, hpme interviewers sit on the admissions committee.
