there is no xyz format

obviously there's no xyz format, my suggestion was just a guideline. as a current HPME student who's also counseled tons of h.s. students, I know what I'm talking about.

yeah sohni, that's pretty good. just do what works for you and make sure you yoursellf are convinced that the paper will convey what you are and your passion for medicine

okay thanks neom3x11

neom3x11, do you think you could read my essay, just to see if it is going in the right direction? I could PM it to you, if you would be able to help me out.

sure, PM me

Hey everyone, I just stumbled on to this webpage while looking up HPME--as a current HPME student, I was just wondering how high school students viewed the program this year, as it is usually quite desirable. Good luck to all you! HPME is a great program, and I'm willing to help all of you get in.

Just some words of advice:

Don--keep up the grades! although none of us know for sure how much senior year grades count--unless we're on the committee ;) -- I'm sure they factor in. Why ruin your chances?

Sohni--just be yourself in your essay. Each essay is unique, and should be since all the candidates are different. If you want a second opinion on your essay (since neom3x11's reading it), I'll be glad to read your essay, and send you comments. PM me!

what year are u ikia

thnx ikia, I will PM you

a few random questions for anyone who could possibly supply an answer...
i apologize in advance if these questions have already been asked.

-- i know HPME requires that English teacher recommendation. if one of my teacher recommendations for the regular Northwestern application is already from my English teacher... what do I do? Can I use that same recommendation twice? Or do I need to get another recommendation for my Northwestern app?

-- level of creativity on essays? this one is for current HPME'rs, based on past experience. although any input would be nice =)
i know some of my other college essays have had some creativity in the mix... but the HPME prompt seems so much more serious... should i try to make it creative? or is it better to be more straightforward (i think i can convey my level of desire/passion without necessarily adding in "creative" elements).

thanks much in advance!!

I had the same rec problem, classicdorkette, so I just told my English teacher to send a copy of (presumably) the exact same rec letter to the medical school address

i'd go with straightforward, but if you really are a creative person, you should make your essay convey that too

If you just go to Northwestern as an Undergrad and don't really go for the HPME, what are the chances of getting into Feinberg in 4 years?

Also, Graduating Early: how does Northwestern see that as?

umm it depends on your MCAT and GPA

Question:
Do these crappy SATII scores signify rejection from HPME:

Math II: 710 ---> dont really know what happened here. i took precalc in 9th grade. i prob should have considered taking this right after precalc but i waited 3 effin yrs

Chem: 680 ----> I got a 5 on the AP exam. the summer killed my chem knowledge

Bio: 700 ----> accidentally put down E and took M because I am an idiot

wow i suck.

Optimistic---be optimistic :D

I have the same problem as optimistic. I got a 680 on the Chemistry subject test but I never took the AP class. Will this hurt me or will they realize that I pretty much had to self study for it?

optimistic and CC24-
those scores are fine, don't sweat it. Anyways, it's too late to do anything about them so why worry? Focus on what you do have control over, which at this point is your essay.

Graduating Early: how does Northwestern see that as?

I don't think they have a stance on it, although I'm sure they would rather have you the full 7 years instead of cutting it down to 6. I'm not sure about this, they may have a certain policy that they enforce for the HPME program.

ellen - whew...that's a breath of relief...my SAT II scores aren't too great either....
690 chem
760 math IIC
740 bio

I heard that northwestern puts alot of emphasis on the chem sat ii....that's why i was a bit hesitant if there was any point to apply...i did anyway...but thanks haha
