from what I’ve read on the informational website, the criteria to get into the HPME is pretty high, but that’s expected. would you say that majority of your peers have credentials that high, or is that simply the average? what was your resume like going in (test scores, gpa, etc)? Thanks!

^^im not in the program, but i went for an interview and from that alone, its obvious that everyone in HPME is exceptionally talented. Like the quality of ppl interviewed was SO much more than at the other shcools i went to (umkc, miami), so from that itself it’s obvious that they have high standards. I think they want extremely well-rounded and personable people as well-i think that’s why they place such high importance on the interview

Having received interviews so far at 4/4 (still waiting on the fifth, R/B) of the medical programs to which I applied - HPME, Case Western PPSP, UMKC, and UMiami HPM - I can say that ALL programs want very talented individuals. HPME just goes one step further and takes so few people that you must be well rounded, with the strong majority of your focus in medicine, a very conversant personality, and high test scores. I found the large majority of people at HPME to be higher quality in terms of EC’s, scores, and personalities (yes, that sounds bad, but it’s the truth) than at any of the other interviews (I haven’t had all of them so far yet, though). Couple this with the fact that HPME is numbers-wise taking fewer and fewer students each year (I believe only 25/2000 this year), and you have yourself an extremely difficult program to get into. Scores wise, I was higher on the SAT in certain sections and lower in others, but overall I was right around the average scores they provided on the website. It seems like I was actually on the lower end, though - I know multiple people who interviewed there with 2350-2400s (a few with perfect scores, too).

@8yearman: great job! you are going very strong. Please let’s know which programs have accepted you and which ONE YOU accepted at the end of the day. Good luck!

hey guys im new to cc. I went to HPME interviews but had a question regarding what I heard when I was over there. Is it true that, as long as you didn’t mess up the interview too badly, by getting a HPME request you are almost guaranteed acceptance into Northwestern undergrad?

^I don’t believe there is official proof of that. But I am pretty sure the vast majority (95%+) who receive get that far do end up getting into the undergrad school.

But again this is all speculation. I myself went for the interview, but I am not banking on a guaranteed acceptance to the undergrad.

Yeah…I just want some reassurance as I haven’t gotten any acceptances from anywhere :(

has anyone heard back yet?

I think decisions come out in about a week, around March 28-30.

How long after Northwestern Undergraduate decisions do we find out about HPME?

…you’ve gotta be kidding me. Right after you drop that reassurance, I find out I got waitlisted. Knew I blew that interview, but I still thought I’d get in…

got waitlisted too…but i thought i had a decent interview for HPME…I guess i am automatically rejected for HPME…T^T

I also got waitlisted, and I thought my HPME interview went well.

Is it still possible that we can be accepted to HPME? Is there ANY way?

im in the same boat-this is kinda strange. Last year, there was like one person who was waitlisted at NU then found out he was rejected at HPME. I dont think we’ll get into HPME-bc I think the HPME ppl forward their decisions to the NU undergrad school so I dont think NU would waitlist you after seeing you got into HPME-but i could be wrong. It seems like there’s a strange number of us this year-and its kind of weird that HPME sends out interview invites w/o confirming undergrad acceptance unlike almost every other direct program. Good job to those who got into NU though :)

With you, this makes 5 of us that I have seen that have gotten waitlisted but have been interviewed for HPME.

Maybe we are simply rejected from HPME and waitlisted at the undergrad like it seems. But I do agree, this is somewhat strange.

And yes, congrats to all who got into NU. You have the option of attending a great school :)

I got my decision from HPME on April 1st by mail. Good luck!

looks like we will have to wait and see what we get in the mail from HPME!! good luck to everyone and i hope everyone gets good news!

I interviewed for the HPME and got waitlisted for NU. This is very strange.

Make it #7. Waitlist by NU but interviewed!

haha, for some reason i find this more and more strange-although I admit-both sets of admissions are looking for different things-i’ve just never seen this many waitlisted HPME interviewers in ANY of the past threads. This could also just be a coincidence-but I guess it doesnt really matter-we’ll just wait and see.
