Congrats @ProbDeferred! Hope you have a wonderful four years there!
Congrats @ProbDeferred so happy for you! We are heading to South Bend this weekend for our senior’s graduation from Notre Dame. We can’t believe it went so fast! I’ll light a candle at the Grotto for the rest of you on the waitlist who are still hoping and praying. My candle and prayers will be for two things: that no matter where you end up you will find a home and that if you if do end up at Notre Dame you will bring all of your gifts and pay forward your experiences!
Thank you! @MomofNewND
@ProbDeferred Congrats!
Was anyone else just invited to join the gateway program if there aren’t any more spots at Notre Dame at the end of the month? I’m super excited about it and would love to hear if anyone has any comments on the program!
@MomofNewND Thanks, it means a lot. I’m still hoping and praying for the best, but either way it works out for me (all the benefits and affordability UGA Honors will offer me, or being at ND), things will be great, and it’s what God thought was best - I’ve done all I can do now.
@college1324 Just checked my E-mail - I got a Gateway invitation! I’m so happy (in case I don’t make it off the waitlist regularly)!!!
@wneely16 When are you confirming your participation in the Gateway invitation?
@MIichelleMicahel I think I’m going to confirm in the middle of next week, as I could still get off the waitlist regularly, and there are obviously a lot of questions that my family needs answered - along with the fact that I don’t know anything about what kind of financial aid I will receive from Holy Cross. The E-mail strongly suggested that I should fly to South Bend and see both campuses for myself, but I don’t know what airline prices will be like on such short notice, along with whether my parents are open to leaving my little sister at home (she’s 13, she can probably handle it). I’ll keep you guys updated as I go through this process. Feel free to ask any questions about Gateway as I learn more about it.
@wneely16 Congratulations! Tell us what you decide to do!
@wneely16 I got into the gateway program too! There’s a day to visit on May 20th but I’m not sure if I can attend. I don’t even know when I’ll be able to visit
Got my FA, pretty bad. $0 in grant, only got FAFSA and work study. So much for ND being generous. Going to ask for a reevaluation, but I’ll commit anyways. Was expecting somewhere around $20-30k for reference.
Should I send more materials and another update?? And tell them I really want to attend? I sent my last things before the May 1 deadline, and I want to keep them updated and know I want to attend.
@IvyHopeful98 Sorry to hear that, man. I hope your re-evaluation goes well. I’m lucky that Holy Cross’s total cost is right where my estimated ND cost would be, but my parents are still really concerned about the costs (seeing as my education at UGA would be next to free). I don’t know what fin aid will be like starting my sophomore year, though.
@businessg101 It definitely couldn’t hurt. I would send it - they are probably wrapping up their last decisions right now. My Gateway E-mail says they “anticipate completing their wait list selections by the end of May”, so there are still spots to be filled! I’m hopeful that I might receive one, and I’m hopeful for you, too. Anyway, definitely go for it on sending more material.
I don’t have my term 4 grades yet though . Does getting another job matter to them?
@MIichelleMicahel I honestly have no idea whether I’ll be able to make it on May 20, since that’s the only date offered. (I saw that, as well.) May 21 is graduation, and I’d have to fly out of South Bend on Friday afternoon, catch a shuttle from Atlanta to Augusta, and get up in the morning to graduate. It would be quite a stretch, but I’m going to try to sell my parents on it. I wish there were more dates!
@businessg101 I wouldn’t, like, get another job to try to impress them, but if you started a new job for reasons outside of that, it’s something worth updating them on. I’d try to wait until your final grades come out (though that might be later for you than it will be for me).
One thing I noticed is that for Gateway, we have to pay $4,000 for an “administrative fee”. I plan on working this whole summer to add money to my 529 account, and the $4,000 I make this summer will probably only cover that fee.
I’m not going to let 4 grand decide where to go to college, as I love Notre Dame. I just find it frustrating that I have to pay 4 grand on something with no evident purpose (kind of like “documentation fees” that come with new cars - my dad has walked out of dealerships that do that, haha).
I shouldn’t be so upset - I got into my dream college today. I just wanted to point that out to all of you guys thinking about Gateway. For someone less economically privileged than me, $4,000 could really make it or break it.
Also, what is the deal with Gateway financial aid information? Will we be sent that in the coming days? I have a long list of questions I plan on asking the program director on Monday, and I’m contemplating making a new thread for those issues, as to not sidetrack from discussion here.
@wneely16 Yes please keep me updated on what you find out! I just sent an email to them.
@wneely16 @MIichelleMicahel @college1324 Congratulations to you all!!! I’m hoping that you both get in off the waitlist, but if you don’t, you both have been given a path to ND. Sorry for not congratulating you last night as I was waiting to see if you got in off the waitlist. However, when I read the last post from @wneely16 the line “I got into my dream college today” really struck me. Even if you don’t get in off the waitlist, you have been given a great path to ND that should be celebrated!! Congrats to the others that I may have missed regarding the Gateway offers.
