Thank You@hpcsa
Thank You@hpcsa
I just spoke with my regional admission counselor. 20 students were taken off the waitlist because of institutional needs (new QB, flute player, research purposes, etc.) It is doubtful that they’ll take any more students, but couldn’t give me a clear answer.
@mexboy So did they say they had filled enrollment for the class of 2022?
@mexboy I would not be surprised if ND only took 20 students off the waitlist this year, for reasons that I mentioned earlier in the thread. However, I would be very surprised if one of those institutional needs at this point involved a “new QB” for the football team. All athletic recruits at Notre Dame (full scholarship, partial scholarship, preferred walk-on, and even just a regular walk-on that the coaches let the Admissions Office know about) would be signed, sealed, and delivered by now.
Maybe that was just one of the examples given by your regional rep to highlight the point that only special cases got off the waitlist, but the QB example does not sound right.
@GeronimoAlpaca @mexboy I think that could be possible re the QB. My friend’s son is still going back and forth between three schools (not ND) for baseball. Already committed to one by May 1st because his parents didn’t want to take any chances. But is definitely still going back and forth w coaches and decision is not finalized. I know it’s baseball and not football, and the upcoming football season is closer. But it still seems like it could make sense.
if Notre Dame hasn’t sorted out their QB needs and are taking on a new one through waitlist admittance, we will be in real trouble for the coming seasons…
@waitingmomla Absolutely it could still be possible, it’s just highly unlikely at ND where all levels of athletic recruits are strongly encouraged to apply early. Certainly ND could make an exception if some talented walk-on QB was somehow still on its waitlist, but does that make any sense that there’s a QB on the waitlist who is good enough that football coach Brian Kelly had not already gotten him into school? Pretty doubtful.
A late signing is possible, but not probable.
Different sport, different school, but Romeo Langford, the ESPN #5 basketball recruit in the country just signed with Indiana. That’s really late in the process.
And when was the last time ND has a great QB? Answer: Joe Montana.
I’d welcome someone, anyone, better than Wimbush, who isn’t a good QB. And last year, with Josh Adams, a very good RB (for most of the season) and also playing behind two offensive linemen who went in the Top 10 of the 2018 NFL Draft, Wimbush was plain awful. So, here’s hoping ND had a late QB signiing or a flute player, either way. :))
@sushiritto yeah, that’s really funny. Football recruits are treated like royalty at Notre Dame and the South Bend Tribune reports breathlessly reports on every campus recruiting visit. Haven’t yet heard of any of them being stuck on a waitlist Reminds me of Rudy…
Maybe there’s a Jamie O’Hara (Vince Vaughn’s character) on that list, a legacy, but not so bright. A Jason Kidd/Cal Scenario. The rumor was Jason Kidd took three tries at the SAT, in order to score an 800 COMBINED, before Cal would admit him. Maybe this unknown QB recruit was still taking the SAT. =))
Just got a status update that says they have filled the class and are no longer considering the waitlist. Congrats to those who got in and sorry to those who did not, maybe we can apply next year for transfer.
Yeah, no. Very doubtful they went to the waitlist to admit a QB. Admissions may have thrown that out there as an offhand, inaccurate example of “institutional need”. At this point, the football team is over the scholarship limit, so would be looking to decrease numbers, not increase, and there is little to no chance Brian Kelly is combing the waitlist looking for a potential walk-on. He has better things to do.
The only possible scenario I can imagine for a QB this late in the game is if they the team was looking for a person who could do something like run the option and was willing to be on the scout team.
@GeronimoAlpaca True. Maybe sushiritto is right and it’s a Jamie O’Hara
@sushiritto I always enjoy your sports commentary. But let me say that, yes, while Wimbush was not the best passer, he is very athletic and had a great rushing game last season. If he was awful, they wouldn’t have had a 10-3 season. I remember when he broke the record for rushing touchdowns by a QB in a season https://www.ajc.com/sports/college/notre-dame-junior-brandon-wimbush-breaks-school-record-with-11th-rushing-touchdown/xasVXvuUigB2EE5r9x5sIJ/ He was very in-synch with Josh Adams, I will really miss the magic of that pairing. And will greatly miss Nelson and McGlinchey on the O-line! After the spring game, it looks like Wimbush will start. But Ian Book is waiting in the wings and he did a great job at the end of last season.
@happy1 Exactly. I wasn’t implying the starting QB would be taken off the waitlist
got an email saying the waitlist is closed. Looks like the end of the road, folks
