NYU Class of 2022 waitlist

Anybody got or heard any news about CAS?

S received the below yesterday (2pm PT) after receiving the general waitlist info email:

Greetings from NYU!
I am contacting you about your status on our wait list for first-year admission. While we did receive your wait list response form, we also understand that you have may have made other arrangements since that time.
That said, we may have some space opening in Gallatin School of Individualized Study, and we remain interested in your candidacy.
Response Form: [Link]
Please complete the form above within 22 hours so we can move quickly to assess your candidacy.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan B. Williams
Associate Dean and Director of Admissions

for those who got the interest letter, do you guys mind sharing your general stats/profile?

@101steagle Congrats! Would you mind sharing your general stats etc.?

@actingdreams – Curious what makes you think these follow-up notes means someone is ‘likely accepted?’ I read the note as merely saying they “may” have some space in a specific school/program, and hence they are trying to weed out those already committed elsewhere before they begin the process of (re)reviewing apps. Of course, I hope you are correct!

I don’t see anything different on my Albert page or anything.

As for my personal profile (even though I might still not get in), I’m an Asian male, 200k+ household. 1540 Sat, 4.7 GPA uw. Tbh my ECs aren’t that spectular: lots of music and band stuff, 4 years track, asian American club and environmental club, a little bit of amateur music arranging.

I think what set my waitlist app apart, if anything, is the letter I wrote. I focused on how this year I worked really hard to improve my Track times, and how my goal was to get into NYU and do DIII Track. I personally thought it was a heartfelt essay, and maybe the admin officers thought that NYU didn’t have enough athletes or something… Hopefully it’ll work out.

@afreeman sure, i’ll share my stats but i’m not sure if i’m going to get in haha. i applied for interactive media arts at tisch. i’m an asian female and i didn’t ask for any financial aid when i applied. i sent in my youtube channel as my portfolio.

stats: 1400 sat, 770 us history, 720 english lit, 3.74 uw and 4.12 w. 5’s and a 4 on ap tests.

ec’s: summer internship at an art museum, youtube channel with 13k subscribers, 4 years of theatre tech (i was also in a mentor role because i was training my replacements) and leader of an art team for my school’s entry in a competition for two years. i’m also in an ya advanced reader copy book club that i had to apply to get into.

in my waitlist letter i added english as a potential major and reaffirmed why i wanted to major in ima. i also added my newer achievements, which included: modeling for a runway show, getting a minor-ish portfolio award, getting a job at my local bakery and learning how to make a latte and getting my first youtube sponsorship.

@101steagle Do you mind sharing when you submitted your waitlist response?

@imonthewaitlist

Ah I see…I submitted it April 6th, which would probably have been pretty early considering the latest was just a few days ago. Perhaps we were only first emailed because we first responded… Can @friedmermaid confirm?

I submitted mine April 26th

@101steagle Well I submitted mine on the day they released their RD result so I don’t think it is about the date that you submit it rather the school of your major.

can everyone share what you wrote about in your free responses?

@101steagle i submitted mine april 7th. i think it helps that we submitted early because they’ve had time to process and read our applications, but they’re also considering our major/school too.

wait but one thing I didn’t understand was if we were stuck with the major we chose on our waitlist app throughout the four years or if we could change majors later

I submitted mine the day after it became available but the last time I editted it was the 29th do you think I would be set back??

Here’s the truth about the emails some have been receiving. If you received an email, it means that 1) NYU has determined that there is room for that major/department and 2) you are one of their top choices for enrollment.

The date on which you submitted the form has no bearing on when you get the email.

@dreamscape99 I wrote about how they have 4 professors on Stern that received nobel prize on Econ, that’s one reason why I really want to attend NYU. Emphasize of how I love business and saying that NYC is a good fit for a city boy like me who loves finance since it’s the financial capital of the world. That’s a good part of it.

@MrElonMusk – can you share the basis for this “. . .and 2) you are one of their top choices for enrollment”?

I would like to believe this is true but I just don’t get that out of the text of the email that was received (which even on openings, merely said they “may” have space). Appreciate the feedback.

@ajstan and everyone else nervously eying this thread: NYU, and almost any other school with waitlists follow this logic: On May 2nd, they will take note of the number of students enrolled for each department. Each school has their own enrollment goals, specific to each department and the school overall. Once they have determined how many opening they have, these schools begin to notify students about whether they are willing to attend if accepted. Schools choose which students to notify by doing a holistic review of their application again (and potentially your demonstrated interest, not sure if NYU does so) and selecting the students they feel are the best fit for the school and their enrollment goals. If the student replies yes to the email some of you have received today, NYU sees that you are truly interested in attending NYU, regardless of financial aid.

The vague language in the email is to keep you all on the edge.

I put down stern as a school on my waitlist form(it was not my first choice) do we get emails for schools we put on waitlist forms or only our first choice when we first applied.
