Hey guys, I’m new on CC. I also applied ED1 for NYU Stern, but they sent me a ton of NYU Poly stuff over the last few weeks and I actually am going to major in Engineering if I am rejected from Stern. So I guess my question is, can I apply to NYU again if I am rejected? But for NYU Poly, not Stern.

@rocky12377 I’m wondering the same thing. Supposedly they do care more for test scores because of grade inflation and all but who knows.

something similar to what goldfishes said, i heard NYU sends out “hints” before acceptances.
like they might send you packages regarding your major before officially declaring acceptance

but @goldfishes, i dont think so. unless you listed you wanted to be considered for another school and showed your interst in engineering, i doubt you can apply and be moved to poly

i read that for stern its just accept/reject and no moves to other schools

@emilyy where did you hear that NYU sends out hints? :o Haha haven’t received anything at all since application

@businessgeek i read it on last years forum
there were FA changes + packages sent

i havent had a FA change or any change so im pretty nervous

Oh I’m fairly certain the packages sent are only for the accepted students so that would make sense!

And admissions said FA changes should be happening to everyone eventually, I’m pretty certain it should have no huge relevance to your final decision. Best of luck whatever happens!

@businessgeek

i hope so! you applied ED for stern right? did you FA change?

Well no one has gotten anything yet cause in sure they would have posted.

@rogahen i drive a stick shift jeep wrangler! so fun. it snowed so hard today where i live, no school :)

@emilyy Actually, I had never realized it had changed! The first time I checked it already had 2015 No self service yadda yadda. Hopefully it’s a good sign, but I’m remaining realistic.

@goldfishes: Did you log into your Albert Account and check your admission status?
Program Description
Do you still have Stern listed for program or has it changed to Poly?

Jen, stick wranglers are awesome!! Do you live in the NJ/NY area? I’m going to a cruise on Sunday in NY for Paul Walker-you should come! :)

any other opinions on the weight of test scores v. grades?

@rocky rumor is test scores are weighted more due to the different weights of grades. but honestly, take it with a grain of salt. You’re looked as a package not just scores.

I feel like grades are looked at more. I could be totally wrong, but most schools look at grades, classes taken in comparison to classes offered at a school, and how difficult the high school curriculum is

another question, does NYU recalculate GPA?

They do recalculate. I’m pretty sure they do it for almost all APs but I’m not sure. I know they weight all IB HLs, but no SLs which is really annoying since those classes are as hard or even harder than some APs

what are SL’s and I was just asking b/c of elective courses, do they recalculate those?

standard level. It doesn’t really matter… Is your elective course an AP?

no i was just thinking about the A’s i received in art. my school counts them as half credits so maybe they aren’t recalculated.
