I was rejected by NYU once and it’s very sad. But move on and live on, man. I haven’t heard from them yet… @FlexPavillion, did you get your decision?

Why do people only get acceptance letters so far? Does the admission office release all the denial letters at the end after all the acceptance letters are sent out? I don’t understand for what reasons they send out denial letters so late.

I still haven’t received any decision. I applied as a politics major to CAS (junior-level). Losing hope. I just want to know!

@victorchlee haven’t heard anything either. It looks to me though that no one who’s gotten accepted is a first year. So maybe thursday is the day all the freshmen hear back.

gotta stay hopeful!

ughhhhhh but at the same time, why couldn’t I just have heard back like 3 weeks ago!!!

I’m in the middle of my sophmore year and still haven’t heard back.

So I just called them to ask if thursday was the last day to hear back and she said it isn’t and that they’ll be sending decisions throughout december. soooooo basically we won’t necessarily hear back this thursday and have to endure another long, suspenseful weekend.

Yeah sure, I actually have lower stats than I’m sure most of you, at least in terms of GPA. I was happy to receive my acceptance this morning.
Major: Econ. and East Asian Studies
College GPA: 3.5 (currently a sophomore)
HS GPA: 3.0 W 2.8 UW
SAT: 2100 (submitted it)
Spent my fall semester of freshman year in China studying Mandarin. I wrote essays about my experiences and plans for a future at studying abroad for a year at NYU SH.
I’m a fencer with a decent nat. rating and I would continue to fence for NYU.
I have only taken two econ. classes and I’m in one (micro) right now. I took a basic econ math class last semester. My classes are focused on Chinese and writing mostly up until now.
Don’t be anxious! Everything happens for a reason and those of you who haven’t heard back yet shouldn’t worry, I’m sure the news will be good.

@Dsgraf12 for this HS GPA you submitted senior year or the average of four years of high school GPA?

@dbeerr
I had a 3.0 W/2.8UW cumulative GPA from all 4 years.
I had a 3.4 in senior year despite the D.

For those of you who haven’t heard back from them, don’t worry. I got my acceptance email last Tuesday, and I actually submitted my application on 11/3, 2 days after the deadline. So don’t lose hope:)

Dear College Confidential buddies:

I know that all the possible theories made here are based on inductive reasoning, so nothing is for sure. We represent a very small, if not insignificant, percentage of the pool of applicants to NYU.

Anywho, I come here with two pieces of information to increase our bag of hypotheses.

1) It is very strange for all of us who have not heard from NYU yet. I talked to my high school counselor and he consulted his NYU buddies to know why it is taking so long. Here is what he told me: “The common application was completely restructured this year and universities have had A LOT of problems accessing student applications. So, no doubt, NYU is behind their ideal timeline.” With that in mind, we have the whole month of December for the results. In addition, ED1 applicants expect their results by Friday next week. Since for transfer applicants there is not a set date, they can send decisions as they come up with them. However, for ED1, they have set a date, and they need to fulfill that. So yes, NYU has stopped to review our applications and gave priority to ED1 applicants.

2) Lastly, I called them today and the person said: “you can expect your results anytime now. You can receive it any time this week. It could be in a few hours, it could be tomorrow, or in a week.” This means we can expect our decisions any day, not only Tuesdays and Thursdays. People in this thread only got them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but again, we represent a very small percentage of the applicant pool.

With that in mind, good luck everyone who didn’t get their replies yet.
Have a terrific studying week and good luck in your finals. May the curve be always in your favor. Now, all we can do is patiently wait for the email to come.

@jakergeorge hey, i’m unable to pm cause of my post count but i’d like to hear more about your living situation!

Hi all, I just want to thank you all for your contributions to this thread. I’ve been checking the forums religiously for the past few weeks in anticipation of my NYU Spring '14 Transfer Admission decision. I’m happy to say that I was accepted into Gallatin this morning. I hope that you all are accepted into your designated schools as well, best of luck!

Hey guys! i know this forum is only for Spring 2014 but i’m planning to transfer to NYU for next fall 2014 as a junior so if u guys dont mind to give me an opinion about my current stats now since most of you get accepted already (congratulations btw!!)

hs gpa : 3.85
college gpa : very low → current 3.46 but it’s going to be higher next semester probably 3.5ish or 3.6
nationality : indonesia
college : Penn State University
sat : not going to submit
ec’s = PR for student council, screen writer and producer for my movie club (won an award three times), committee for MUN, volunteer and community service, internship at independent movie company, etc etc (Highschool…)

–>college : PR/webmaster for Indonesian student association, global leadership engagement attendee, phi sigma pi member national honor fraternity, internship at Bank of Indonesia, member of THON org, head committee for Indonesian cultural night.
→ i dont really have that much ec’s during my college years

i’m applying to steinhardt for MCC since i wanna work for PR or media. and the fact that for transfer student they more likely to consider your grades from college instead of highschool i’m getting worried now since i have very average gpa right now. so if you guys could tell me what are my chances are i’d be greatly appreciated!! :)

Well I got nothing from NYU today, but I did get accepted into Emerson, which I’m extremely happy about. I have two weeks to respond to them so hopefully NYU can get back to me soon.

@ameliespeck

True, your college GPA is low. However, considering your international internships, experience and so on is huge because NYU is known for their emphasis on being “global”.

Make your essays really unique and address why NYU. I think you have a great shot.

Maybe I shouldn’t be the advice because I didn’t hear back yet. But I have a 3.9+ college GPA and I’m worried about getting in. And I slacked off this semester and GPA might drop to 3.6 that might ruin my chances for Berkeley, Yale, or USC. But who knows.

@FlexPavillion
same here, havent heard anything but was accepted to UMich for econ and math. I have until next Thursday to accept it. I am a NY resident btw.
For any econ majors, do you think UMich LSA is better than NYU CAS for econ?

@ameliespeck make yourself stand out in your essays. Explain why you want to go to NYU and if possible outline your plan of action of what you would do there.

@ameliespeck I got in with a 3.48, don’t worry! Your ECs and other things sound fine.
