im hoping for CR -2, W -2, M -5

The only way that they could have gotten an 188 and qualified would be if they were either African American or Hispanic. That score would not qualify for the normal National Merit Program, but it perhaps could be a qualifying score for the National Achievement/Hispanic program (I’m not really sure, though).

classicalcollege,
Study SAT for PSAT. Do as many practice tests as you can, especially the released real SAT. It doesn’t matter what books you use. The key is to practice, practice and practice. Go through the mistakes you made. and one day, you’ll be so good at math. You still have time. Keep focused. You’ll get there.

230.

80 CR, 73 math (come on…), 77 writing.

That should qualify me for national merit. Too bad my GPA sucks.

My son goes to a high school that won’t release PSAT scores until January. He practiced and studied a lot for the October 2012 test and was getting merit qualifying scores on his practice tests. I’m getting a bit concerned about his score, though, since he hasn’t started getting any snail mail from the top-tier universities. My older son was a 2009 merit scholar and I think I remember him getting mail from the the top universities as soon as the scores were available, even though he didn’t have his score yet. Did anyone who just recently scored a high enough score to make it suddenly start getting mail from the ivies and the like? I’m getting depressed that #2 son didn’t score as high as we thought he would since he hasn’t received any. I guess it’s possible, though, that my older son was getting the solicitation he did because his sophomore score would have been high enough to make the cut and my younger son missed it by a bit when he took it in 10th grade.

220 in NY. Wish I’d done better, but at least I qualify.

@cdkmom- I got a 236 and have yet to receive any mail, with the exception of a TASP letter which I got today- and I’ve heard that not everyone who scores high even gets one of those. Don’t worry at all. I remember last year after my sophomore test (which I would have qualified for National Merit with), I didn’t get mail/emails until mid-January. Good luck to your son!

The mail onslaught probably won’t start in earnest until:

NMSC will
notify Semifinalists of their standing and send scholarship
application materials to them through their high
schools in September 2013. Their names will be sent to
regionally accredited four-year U.S. colleges and universities
and released to local news media for public announcement
in mid-September.

Thanks OACLJV and ROCKFISHDG for your posts. I’m probably just being paranoid & I might be remembering the timeline for my older son incorrectly. We won’t know for sure, though, until the second week in January when school starts up again. It’s annoying that they sit on the info for so long before releasing it.

cdkmom, my son got 230 on his PSAT and received an invitation from TASP to apply to their summer program. We have not noticed any more college mails than usual though. You can call your school GC and request your child’s score. Hopefully you can get it before school’s out.

I FEEL like crap saying my score to you guys…

So… Um junior here. 204! Hehe. I suck.

Last year’s cutoff was 220.
TT______TT

So our counseling department at our high school sent out an email to all juniors late Wednesday night that said that the school has not received the PSAT scores and codes from College Board. Our school contacted them and were told they will be sent out to the school this week, but we might not get them by Friday. (At this point, it doesn’t look as if we will.) Finals are over and school is out as of today. I am confused because I thought PSAT scores were sent out to all of the schools at the same time. Anyone ever heard of this happening?

So.Cal - our school has the scores, but will not distribute til 2nd week of January.
From these posts least I know we’re not alone.

My Daughter got a 231 too (congrats by the way!) and I’m trying figure out the possible breakdowns of her score… She took Wed PSAT & omitted zero… I guess we’ll find out Jan 15th anyway, but still curious…
