I didn’t leave any blank.

What’s the prediction for natl commended? I got a 199, any chance of making commended? 199=96 percentile

Which day did you test on? Halcyon did you omit some questions? You both indicated missing two on CR, yet one of you scored a 77 and one a 78. Trying to figure out the difference.

Oops! ETA: Just saw that Jasmine indicated a Saturday test. So, Halcyon, did you test on Wednesday?

Yes, I tested on Wednesday. No omissions.

My daughter scored a 185 on her practice PSAT as a sophomore, before taking a couple of the classes that are on the test. She took the classes and then took a PSAT prep class. Our state has historically had one of the lower qualifying scores. Wish I could figure out if there was any chance she could improve enough.

Sophomore PSAT:
CR: 77 (99th)
Math: 71 (99th)
Writing: 70 (99th)

218 (99th)
Pretty psyched!!! :D

Sophomore from Nj, took the saturday PSAT test 207 disapponted, will try harder next year when it really matters, but I have a math question that i’am still trying to figure it out .If anyone could be kind enough to explain step by step i would really aprrecaite it! Sorry i posted it under wrong section.
Math section- 4 , Q 28, -4|2x-k|= -2|2k-mx|, If m is a constant, and the equation above is true for all values of x and k, what is the value of m?
Answer as per PSAT score is E…
thanks

I didn’t take the Saturday test, but here is my solution. -4|2x-k|=-2|2k-mx|->
2k-mx=+/-2(2x-k) -> mx=2k+/-(4x-2k). This equation can only be true for all k if k cancels. We must take the plus for this to be true. Then mx=-4x and m=-4. Is this the right answer?

Mommoney,

Have your daughter study for SAT and take SAT BEFORE her junior PSAT. There is SAT test scheduled just 2 weeks before PSAT. If she does it, she will be more than ready for PSAT
She will be NMSF without doult. Because she will need to take SAT to verify her PSAT if she is NMSF anyway. My son did this way. He scored 213 PSAT as a sophomore and 226 PSAT (Oct. 2012) as a junior. His SAT is 2270.

She already took the PSAT for her junior year. Just waiting for results. They did use SAT prep materials for the PSAT prep class, and she was selected by her private school to take the class. They only offer the class to those kids that they think have potential for scoring high on the PSAT as a junior. I just don’t know if the leap is too much to hope for.

My son took the PSAT as a sophomore last year. He did no prep, not even taking a practice exam. He got a 198. This year, about 1 month before the test, I had him do 4 sessions with a math tutor and 4 sessions with an English tutor (once a week, one hour for each), mainly to motivate him to do a few practice exams and get some pointers. His score this year on the Saturday exam was a 225. 80 CR (0 wrong), 75 W (1 wrong) and 70 M (not sure how many wrong.) So for a modest amount of time and money, he will achieve national merit in our state (NY) and an opportunity to take advantage of some of the merit scholarships available to NM Finalists and Semifinalists (e.g. full tuition at Northeastern, Fordham, 1/2 tuition at USC, Boston University, etc.) It turned out to be a great investment.

I have heard of others with similar or even more dramatic increases, so it is definitely worth a shot if you have scores in the upper 100s sophomore year.

Score came today!
I’m a junior from Indiana who took the Wednesday test.
Critical Reading: 77 (2 wrong, 0 omitted) 99th %ile
Mathematics: 69 (2 wrong, 2 omitted, 1 wrong and 1 omitted in grid-in) 95th %ile
Writing: 77 (1 wrong, 0 omitted) 99th %ile
Total: 223 (5 wrong, 2 omitted) 99th %ile

We just got Georgia scores today!
CR: 75 (2 wrong, 1 omitted), 99th percentile
Math: 73 (2 wrong), 98th percentile
Writing: 80, 99th percentile

Missed two easy questions and then another one omitted by accident. >.> Stupid.

**** i feel dumb I got
63 critical reading
67 math
57 Writing skills?

anyone have any links to resources to improve writing skills and critical reading? For now I should leave math as is right? Does anyone know if it would be feasible to get a 2200 by the march sat? thanks in advance

mommoney, she absolutely can make that leap. From sophomore year to junior year, S1 went from 180 to 217 and S2 went from 209 to 233. They took a free school sponsored course before the junior year PSAT but did nothing else to prepare. Just having another year of math and English is huge. Good luck!

My Virginia high school got scores today but won’t distribute them generally until the 19th. However, my guidance counselor and I are on good terms, so he called me in…

I got a 240!

What an awesome feeling.

(I took the Wednesday test, by the way.)

@StudiousMaximus Did you choose “moist” or “consumed” for the critical reading section that everyone was debating

@MasterYster
It was moistened.
