October 2012 PSAT score

I’m really baffled as to how I got an 80 on the writing section and yet a 71 in critical reading which I normally do much better on. xD. Luckily that 80 helped pull me up to a fairly solid 224. Definitely above the cutoff here in Ohio.

Got mine too. California.

227:
80 W 99%
76 M (missed one for 4 points :() 99%
71 CR (missed 4) 97%

Do you think I’ll make it as a semi-finalst? The cut off for Cali last year was 220.

This was higher than the SAT I took in Nov the month after :frowning: I think I’m gunna retake the SAT.

Nj 229
cr:77
m:80
w:72

233 in Tennessee

Not sure about my subscores, but I think I can bank on Semifinalist. :)

240!! Pretty ecstatic (:

Daughter was 8 points below cut off for our state. Still proud of her as it is a good score

224; too bad I’m a sophomore or I’d have made NMS.
80 math, 80 writing, 64 CR :(

215; that’s enough for last year’s NY cut off, but 215 was NY’s lowest ever cut off (highest being 219). I’m screwed.

REMINDER TO THOSE WHO WANT TO PREDICT THE CUT-OFF SCORES FOR YOUR STATE:
State score reports come out some time in february. LOOOK AT THEM.

-They have the number of students in your state and grade that scored 75-80, 72-75, etc. on a certain section, and the percent of people that did iit. The reports almost always correlate with your cut-off score. (aka higher or lower than last year) Archives of past score reports can be found on collegeboard website somewhere.

Getting my score tomorrow! So nervous but anticipatory!

225 in AR, so excited! That should definitely be safe unless the cutoff jumps twenty points.

CR: 77
M: 68
W: 80

^ I am madly jealous :frowning:
I have a 215, which is 4 points away from my state’s normal cutoff… Why can’t I live in Wyoming :frowning: :frowning:
And being a “Commended Student” does not matter much, since its cutoff is 200, a score that any person with a 3-digit IQ can get if s/he tries :(

Umm, I wouldn’t say that any person with a 3-digit IQ can get Commended… some people with a bit above average intelligence who are good under pressure AND study a lot might be able to pull it off, but certainly not “any person with a 3 digit IQ.”

I’m a sophomore and got a 195 how can I improve for next year? Did anyone else get a score in that range last year and improve for junior year and if so by how much and how? Thanks so much

To the person above me:
I got a 184 my sophomore year and I got 226 this year as a junior. I spent a lot of time doing practice tests, and familiarizing myself with the types of questions asked on P/SAT really helped me improve.

Thanks so much Kiwiasian, so did you just study on your own and take practice tests? You didn’t go to a prep course or anything? And which books did you use?

Yeah I just studied on my own and all I did was take practice tests. I didn’t take a prep course because it was too expensive. I used Barron’s, Princeton, Collegeboard, Gruber’s, McGraw Hill…pretty much everything that was available at my public library.

andros12,
You can absolutely improve your PSAT score. I can almost copy kiwiasian’s post word by word and have it match my son’s experience. my junior son got his Wed PSAT score: 230 (CR 77, Math 76, Writing 77.) His soph. score was 196 and freshman was 204. He did not study for it until before the junior PSAT.
Also, he prepared his junior PSAT similiarly to Kiwiasian. He did Barron, Kaplan, and Princeton Review. The only thing did not like was Barron since it has so many errors. He used the other two and like them. He also finds Kaplan a little easier and Princeton just right. Although, he had never scored more than 220 when he practiced at home. So this is a pleasant surpise.

Oops, meant 2 on CR.

yes, this afternoon. got 219.

I have a question, if the cutoff is 219, does it mean that 219 and above or above 219 only.
Appreciate an answer.

thanks
