October 2012 SAT Discussion

the one with the difference between the two passages. i know people put the one with the communication/word thing, but wouldn’t it be the one with how the second also highlighted similarity to apes in general? i mean, at the end they were saying how other scientists were scared that apes IN GENERAL were smarter. right? >< GAH

I figured out the cirle question-

The triangle was inside the circle, with the vertex at center “O.”
The sides, therefore, were both radii (spelling? whatever) of the triangle.
Therefore, the sides were equal.

180-130 = 50, divided equally by the angles…25. To find ‘y’, you subtracted 25 from 90.
y=65.

No it was that the first spoke of the recognizing of words or something. And the other was talking about how he could make commands on his own and thus discern the language. It didn’t HIGHLIGHT the similarity it spoke of it as a conclusion to why the scientists were threatened by the apes knowledge.

@kiwi Sorry I didn’t on reading :/

@catch I think the short one was experimental…I hope lol

THAT’S WHAT I DID!

if you started with 2 math sections, which was the exp the first or second?
i hope its the first

@kiwisarecool

It was the communications/words thing. It was the most specific answer, backed up by the passage

what was the answer to the hound sentence completion?

For anyone wondering how to do the circle question with only the fifty degrees and the obtuse triangle :

Angles inscribed into a circle are equal to half the measure of the arc they intercept. Since the arc was fifty degrees (they gave us the central angle, central angle = arc measure), we know the angle on the bottom left was 25

They were looking for its supplement, so 65 degrees

@Everyone, the circle one: the answer is 65! The triangle was icoleses, and you went from there.

Yeah, it was 65.

Does anyone have an answer as to what the critical reading experimental was? I’m still wondering. Was it the Mars/Venus and the Greek alphabet one?

no greek alphabet was real

@catchtwentythree, the one with the timeline was the real one.

I think the Mars/Venus because I didn’t have that.

The Jackson High School question, what did everyone get?

Wasn’t the Mars passage in the Greek alphabet passage?

Don’t even know anymore. QQ

@ Genesis I put 1420 but the majority here state that it’s 1600.

I think I chose 65 for the circle on the graph one. I think I originally wanted to guess ‘50’, but I hope I did end up changing it. Ugh. I hate how I can’t remember something that happened just two hours ago, lmao.

In the Greek alphabet?..the Greek alphabet was about how it was rejected at first since there wasn’t a great need for written stories due to the oral stories…?

What did you guys put for the writing class passages? For the ? that was like, what would they both agree on?

Pretty mad at myself. I was cruising through the test with at least 5 minutes left in each section but on the last reading section (the one with 2 views on the language of the monkey) I got too casual and had to guess on the last 3 questions.

Btw if you are looking to get the timing down take the ACT. If you master the timing for that test you will cruise through the SAT

What did people put for the what the Greg perimeter the triangle can be. I think it was like 34?
