Hello fellow Georgetown hopefuls! I’m so freaking anxious for the RD decisions, it’s killing me! The only thing that made today any better was that we got our official class rankings for graduation and I’m officially salutatorian! I told my Georgetown interviewer that I was salutatorian some months back so I’m glad it didn’t end up being a lie lol. I really need to know whether I’m going to Oberlin or Georgetown (both out of state for me) because shopping for DC weather is way different from shopping for Ohio weather lol.
Anyone know if there’s a possibility that we will get the letters tomorrow?
@markpasenter2 doubt it. they usually mail it out on the 27-28th, so most people will get it on or before April 1st.
@markpasenter2 There’s a chance, but it seems unlikely. Maybe on Friday or Saturday they will be received if GU wants to send them before Easter. @whitespace I completely agree with your statement. I applied to Georgetown SFS, UPenn, American U, Johns Hopkins (rejected), and my local college, Washington College (safety school). I’m going for International Politics
@Cosmopolitian13 I got rejected from Hopkins too. Georgetown is my #1
@markpasenter2 Same here
My interview was absolutely AMAZING and I know Georgetown emphasizes the interview more than other schools (it’s required, too). Just hoping for the best. Just gotta wait…
wait…the interview is required…?
No, interviews are not required.
@kaitlynjoy If you applied early enough, Georgetown does set in motion an interview automatically. If you’re a later applicant, they obviously don’t have time to accommodate everyone, so in that sense it’s not required. I’d say the majority of applicants underwent one, though.
Interviews are pretty close to being required, as noted on the Georgetown website:
“All first-year applicants, including international applicants, are required to have an interview with an alumnus as part of the admissions process unless it is geographically impossible.”
“The Georgetown University Alumni Admissions Program (AAP) is responsible for interviewing all undergraduate applicants to Georgetown.”
How significant are they in the admissions process? Does anyone know how much of a tipping point they can be?
Edit: Nevermind. I answered my own question! “An interview report will be submitted and becomes part of the admissions file. While the interview report is used as part of the admissions committee’s consideration process, it rarely “makes or breaks” an application, and much more often than not it works in the applicant’s favor.”
“The interview is an opportunity for applicants to express themselves to the admissions committee. Interviewers are not looking for any specific information about the applicant, rather they seek to have a general conversation about the applicant’s thoughts and interests.”
“In addition, students should view the interview as an opportunity to express anything they think important the admissions committee know about them that they did not fully articulate in the application.”
@JDBoi78 I honestly don’t think GT interviews are thaaat much of a tipping point, unless the interview went terribly. Since they are weighted a little heavier than other schools, I’m assuming a good interview will help AOs confirm your personality/fit for the school, but it won’t be the reason an admissions committee will change their decision from a rejection to acceptance.
any updates on when letters will be mailed?
No one is for sure yet. Also, isn’t the envelope really tiny and light ? I heard that the only difference is that in the acceptance letter there is a blue paper.
I hear same on the thin letter with additional blue page if accepted
When does the call normally come to accepted students? Before or after the letter?
@looking4ward it depends on your location. Some students get the call before the letter arrives, and others get a call days after they receive the letter. Some do not get called at all.
who else is applying to SFS? What did y’all talk about in your SFS essay? I discussed ISIS’s destruction of ancient temples in Palmyra
@radgreek is the call for only accepted students ?
Yes, only accepted students get a call
