This is a thread for anyone taking AP Psychology next year. I am self studying, because it is known to be one of the easier AP's to self study, and it is a senior only class at my school (I will be a junior). You can post any information you have that can help prepare for the exam. I have done a little research myself, and have found 3 books that should help almost anyone achieve a 5 if studied thoroughly, timely, and properly. It is definitely untrue that some people "didn't even study and they got a 5". I am already in the first chapter of Barron's and it is a bit confusing. So I will be getting Barron's AP Psychology, Barron's AP Psychology Flash Cards, and 5 Steps to a 5 500 AP Psychology Questions. All can be purchased for a total of around $30 on amazon. Those should do the job for a 5. Maybe some online reviews can help as well close to the test date. Feel free to check out some of my other threads for the AP courses during the 2013 school year (Chem, Spanish Lang, Environ Sci, Human Geo, US Gov, Comp Gov). Hopefully this thread can help everyone get that 5 :)

Incoming sophmore here. Im gonna self study it too I bought the Barron’s review book.

Hey guys! I’m gonna be a junior this year and I’m self-studying psych as well. When is everyone going to start?

Hi guys! Incoming sophomore here planning to self-study psych. Idk, I’ll probably start in February or March, sometime later in the school year. Psych is supposedly one of the easier APs to self-study, and I have a bunch of other (history) AP self-studies to worry about.

As for books, I’ll probably just get Barron’s, read through it a few times, and do all the practice tests. Any other suggestions? :D

I’m an upcoming senior and am planning on self-studying too.

Incoming Junior, and I already took AP Psychology online this summer, got about a 4 on a couple of Barron’s practice tests, and plan on not taking a look at it again until a little bit before the exam!

Sophomore self-studying too. I’ve already started reading over the first 3 chapters just to get an idea. What are your study plans? Studying every day, on the weekends, in school etc?

^ LOL don’t waste your money.
You can use just the Barron’s AP book and get a 5.

I waited until the weekend before to cram, and I only used Barron’s. During the exam, I finished the MC ~40 minutes early, which was plenty of time to double and triple check all of my answers. If you read thoroughly through the Barron’s book, you will know the answers to 96% of the questions.

I got an easy 5 with a weekend of studying and one study guide.
Some AP exams do require more than one study guide, but psych isn’t one of them.

gomdorri, did you just look at the book the weekend before for the first time or did you read it periodically throughout the school year?

gomdorri, did you just look at the book the weekend before for the first time or did you read it periodically throughout the school year?
^ I did /skim/ through it once before, but I took a diagnostic test afterwards and literally bombed the test LOL. When I started studying on the weekend, I felt like I was looking at material I had never seen before.

Mind you, it wasn’t like, 5 hours of spontaneous study and frolicking around the house meanwhile.
I woke up at around 8:30AM and studied until around 9-10PM without getting up for anything unless I had to go to the bathroom or eat a snack. After I finished studying, I took a diagnostic test and go over all of my incorrect answers (I think this helped me a lot because I remember encountering several questions on the AP psych exam that were similar to questions I got wrong in Barron’s).

And then on Sunday I kinda caved and decided to watch a drama after 9 and stayed up late finishing it lolol.
Since the AP psych exam was on a Monday in the afternoon, I also did study all throughout my morning classes and reread the whole book the morning of the exam ROFL.

I kinda did something similar for bio and world history… thank goodness I am good at cramming. XD

Okay thanks gomdorri. I’m going to do a semi-self study in that I’ll get some materials and help from my school’s AP Psych teacher too.

That should be sufficient.

And if it helps, you can try relating everything you study to real life situations. Sometimes it helps when you have trouble remembering a concept.
Even when I was watching a drama instead of studying on Sunday, I found myself going “ASDKLASKDLA; FUNDAMENTAL ATTRIBUTION ERROR ASKDADKALDAKSLDASDKADAA; NOOOOOOOOO” and “hah no it’s mere exposure effect” throughout the 3+ episodes that I watched. xD

/weirdo

i’m an incoming sophomore and i’m planning to self study psych this year as well. i’m only using the PR book though… ik PR is a little less detailed than Barrons, but is it really necessary for me to also purchase Barrons in order to get a 5?

im self studying … I plan on getting the barrons book + barrons flash cards … when should i start studying ? lol

I might just start studying around april. I’m not going to waste time over studying because I heard it is a really easy subject to self study

I’m probably going to start in September and be able to get almost all the answers correct, then come back to it in April. I don’t feel like this needs to be studied throughout the year, but I don’t want to push it to last minute and not understand some things. And @gomdorri, I just feel like the extra questions and flashcards will save more time and probably be better than me studying foy myself. The stuff they have on the flashcards is basically all you need to know from the exam from what I hear, but you need the book to learn it properly. And the 500 questions will really help me to do excellent (hopefully) on the MC.

I used Princeton Review and got a 5

^Cool story…

I finding surprising that so many people are self studying for this exam. I looked at the crap on of my senior friend had to do and it seened tedious or it could just be the teacher giving out busy work and constantly come over to my Latin class to waste time.

^^ I think that teacher is just boring because i heard this is the easiest and most interesting Ap class/exam because everything can be related to real life since it is talking about your psychology
