Everyone should boycott Boston University…their financial aid offers are horrible. Perhaps the worst I have seen…even University of Miami beats them.

Just to update the thread. I got into BU today. Sargent College.

I’m a little bit of a less traditional student. I did two years at a top 50 university. I had an internship in my field of study, the summer before my junior year that turned into a job–as a result I took the year off. The job ended up leading to a research position abroad so then I ended up taking a second year off. So I guess I had so pretty good experience/extracurriculars. Here are my basic stats outside of that:

College: 3.24 GPA
HS: something like 3.7 maybe? not quite sure.
SAT: 2040 (M540/CR700/WR740)

Oh and also, just in case it makes any difference I was rejected from BU when I applied as a freshman.

Congrats to all the acceptances and good luck to all those still waiting!

rejected from NYU but ACCEPTED to BU SMG!!! Hell yeahh!!!

@michaeleblasio,

Please don’t judge the entire financial aid of BU based on your anecdotal experience. BU, unlike other schools, bases their financial aid on merit more than need. And they offer some cool scholarships, like the Phi Theta Kappa “half-tuition” scholarship for transfers.

@tranferccgal @NTcollege

congrats!!

@transferccgal Congrats and the same happened to me!

As for financial aid, I hardly received any! I only got a few k so I’ll be spending over 50k for sure every year Hopefully USC will give me some more if I get in.

@626tranfer,

I’m waiting on USC too! It’s such a hard wait!!

I can’t get any financial aid as an international student, and i didnt receive any merit aid or scholarship… So yeah, it’s gonna be expensive if I go to BU…
I can tell they aren’t that good with aid since I got merit award from other schools, but no there… And comparing to other schools, their fin aid is lower…
Hope a degree from BU is worthy that much money!

@that1guyy? Marshall? and yea, it is really annoying. A few of my friends already got accepted, and most have gotten a SGR. Some though haven’t received anything (like me) and we only have 2 weeks left before a notification.

I’ve been reading through the messages. You guys have been very helpful. I applied to Boston as junior transfer from a CA Community college for the Fall '13 (stats below). I was wondering if the notification dates reflected the time you applied? As in, if you applied earlier, do you get notified earlier?
I haven’t heard back and the wait is killing me
College GPA:3.7
HS GPA:3.2(explained why so low in my personal statement)
EC’s: College Student Gov’t, 2012 Congressional campaign Latino Outreach coordinator, EthnicStudies Intern, General manager at my parent’s restaurant, and organizer or city wide blanket/food drives
Thanks in advance!

@Aimee

Judging by your stats, I don’t think you have much to worry. They accept on a rolling basis and it depends on when you submitted your app. Was it close to the deadline? I heard earlier than most because I submitted my app way earlier than others. You should probably hear within a couple weeks I think. Good luck!

Thanks @that1guyy
Yes, I applied very close to the deadline but I guess a couple more weeks won’t hurt. I saw that you’re applying from CA? How’s the tuition difference for out- of-states (even with the aid offered)?

@Aimee

Since BU is private the tuition is the same for in state and out of state students. A lot of people on this thread didn’t receive very good financial aid from BU but they were pretty generous to me (not bragging, just saying :P)

@that1guyy Oh okay that’s helpful! Lol well at least there’s hope!

For those who paid the deposit, which residence did you guys choose?

I don’t know if it’s worthy to stay in a freshman residence just because they have a dining hall in the building and it might be easier to meet people… but at the same time, it’s probably harder to study…

I’d really appreciate any kind of advice haha I’m an international student, so I won’t have the opportunity to go there and see by myself…

Just found out I was accepted to CAS for the fall. I will definitely be attending. I only applied to BU and University of Texas, Austin. I’m not even going to see if I get in to Texas. 3.7 GPA from a CA CC. 30+ credits and an 8 year navy veteran. Good luck guys!

Accepted to NYU. Now I can’t decide between NYU and BU… omg. I know there are people who applied to both schools, so I’d appreciate any opinion haha

Congrats guys!

@Bosbr100

I know you can’t visit but maybe you should get a feel for each campus via google earth/maps street view. Also, look at career services both offer, clubs, and general vibe you get from each school.

I have a few friends at NYU and they all love it except for one guy who is transferring. I have one friend at BU who loves it there.

Personally, I would pick BU.

Thank God Finally Accepted. After the killing weeks of waiting, i had given up checking my applicantlink and this thread to ease my stress. I got my Acceptance last night and i literally could hear my heart beating lol.

I guess i am the only one here that applied to Engineering tho … don’t remember anyone mentioning Engineering. I am going to Electrical Engineering

I’m waiting for my financial award package, how long after you guys got your acceptance did you get it?

and my stats are . . .
high school GPA (out side of US, a country called Eritrea) . . . 4.0
college GPA - 4.0 (36 credits finished from Nashville State CC)
EC - some from my high school in my country
SAT - 1620 (so low, but since English is not my first language my
TOEFL might have compensated for that … 102/120)

I am going to decline my spot and remain at my current college.

I have also been admitted to the University of Miam in the School of Communication. But i decided to go to BU.
