Actually, I might take your advice. On the other hand, what I said before is probably absolutely valid. I’m pretty sure that, even if I get in off the waitlist, I will reject their offer for admission and they will, in turn, give someone else a chance off the waitlist anyway. They will not simply drop one spot just because I said no. But, as I said before, I have to discuss this a little further with my family to make sure there is ABSOLUTELY no chance of me changing my mind regarding my current plan and then I will most probably call the lady back and tell her to take me off. Didn’t mean to spark a debate or anger, just sharing my honest feelings.

That’s fine then, if you are considering Davidson as a real possibility. I think TT and I were reacting to this statement:
Based on that, I urged you to quickly get off the waitlist so the adcoms could consider another student. It would speed things up for those who are waiting, and I’m sure they would be grateful.

Cool, it’s all cleared up then. There is a possibility though that I will make that call and take myself off in the next few days. I would love to speed things up and ease painful wait for any of you hopefuls if my family and I decide to stick with our original plans (I think this is the likely outcome).

Actually, I don’t think you have anything to worry about or feel bad about, mk150890. Honestly, it sounds like Davidson needs most, if not all, of the kids that they wait-listed. They’re letting tons in and I’m guessing they didn’t come close to the 490 kids they wanted. So in any other circumstances, I might judge a bit…but at the same time, I think it’s a valid want to see if in the end you’d be admitted.

In other words: there is fulfillment to gain. Hiedegger would support your action.

Haha I’m such a nerd.

Well, Heidegger’s support could be seen as good or bad, according to which way you weight his influence on Western philosophy and politics. He did have a connection with Nazism, you know. Haha, anyway, I’m just messing around. Yeah, I agree with you regarding the “letting tons in” theory. I don’t think Davidson got a lot of numbers this year.

Admission hopefuls, I have some good news for you. I was going to make the call to take myself off the waitlist today but, interestingly, the lady I spoke with yesterday beat me to the spot and called me to offer admission. Promptly, I told her I had discussed it with my parents and I am sticking to my original plan of attending Emory. I explained my intentions to her regarding making the call earlier and she praised me for my unselfish behavior (lol). Anyway, there you guys go, one spot has opened up. I’m sure most of you well qualified applicants who were waitlisted will be offered admission. She told me yesterday that they will start notifying people on Monday but I think I was one of the first off so good luck to the rest of you!

hmm. anyone know exactly how many students they got from RD?

I talked to an admissions officer today and she was being very polite, but very dodgy. Like, I could tell she didn’t want to tell me exactly how many RD kids accepted. She said that it was difficult with the economy. I asked how close they were to the 490 and she said hesitantly that they would reach the 490. I’m guessing that means that there are enough on the wait-list to get to that point, but it sounds like a bit of a struggle for now.

Ah! I am so excited for you guys, congrats!!

I will be applying ED this coming fall!

Accepted off waitlist-going

Congratulations!
Look forward to having you hear in the fall!
