Official Fall 2012 University of Michigan transfer thread

@ markyang27

I just now saw your post… currently I’m in the Winter 2012 semester. I know some institutions use different names (OCC for example used to use Fall, Spring and then Summer I and II) but UM uses Fall Winter Spring and Summer. (which makes a lot more sense really) So I will start classes in Ann Arbor in May.

so where does it say i you got in?
I got my Michigan Portal log in and everything, but i’m not sure where the decision is going to be posted…

@markyang27
Go to Wolverine Access and log in
Click New & Prospective Student Business
Click Application Status which is near the top left of the page
If you have a decision it will say view decision after an Application Data link and a Credentials Link, if you have a link that says view decision click on it and it will possibly say:

Congratulations! You have been admitted to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts! Your official admission letter will be arriving shortly in the mail.

To receive your first official welcome into the University of Michigan family, copy and paste this video link into another browser window: [Welcome | University of Michigan Office of Admissions](http://www.admissions.umich.edu/welcome/lsa/) .

Please be sure to respond to our offer of admission by clicking “Respond Now.”

If you applied to a different college than LSA then I assume it would say that college name instead of LSA

I have a couple questions:

-When U of M evaluates your GPA don’t they recalculate it using the courses that are transferable?

-For applying to LSA how many essays do you have to write?

@jmm124567-- on the Common App. there is a personal essay (250 word min), a brief extra curricular essay (less than 1000 characters), there is spot for a discipline explanation if needed. Then on the Michigan Supplement there is two more essays.

Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it. (Approximately 250 words)

and

Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests? (500 words maximum)

Those are the requirements for LSA, the other schools have additional requirements such as portfolios and resumes.

Accepted at midnight today! It is a good feeling. Good luck to everyone still awaiting a decision. I know how stressful it is.

Stats (poster earlier as well): Highschool GPA: 3.4ish, College GPA: 3.88, ACT: 33, Ran Varsity Track at Division one level, In honors college. 1000+ hours of volunteer work in high school. I was wait listed applying last year.

Congrats! Just curious, what day did you apply?

I second that question ^

I applied a month ago and I still haven’t gotten a response…

@markyang27 & @ClutchEngineer, I applied to LSA and it took about a month and a half to get a response once they finally had all my required information. If you applied to Engineering or Architecture you may have to wait longer.

bump p p p p

I am a procrastinator…applies Feb 1st. Still waiting and not sure where I want to go yet but UM is such a great school! I’m a Cali girl, not sure how I would handle the weather! burrrr!

I’m still waiting too!!
I applied on Jan 30th… haha so i’m not that much ahead of you!

yup, applied Feb 1st too. It’s been a long wait

@shrtcakez, you’ll probably handle the weather just fine. I dunno what’s happening but Michigan winters are starting to become Texas winters. We had snow on the ground for maybe 3 weeks and had 50 degree weather in December and January. Thank global warming?

does anybody know when there’ll be another wave of people or is it more like sporadically, some people each day?

I think it’s sporadic each day.

Does anyone know what forms were required for the application?

on my Michigan portal under view credentials,
It only shows that my high school transcript was received as well as my SAT scores… nothing about my college transcripts… did anyone else experience this?

mine has act/sat scores, high school and my college transcripts. when did you send in your stuff? I think I sent mine in early january, like right after I came back from break

@markyang27 I would contact the admissions office at UofM and ask them some times wolverine access does not update with items received there was an earlier post on this thread with someone who had experienced this and contacted admissions who told them that all the material had been received. The other option would be to email your transfer adviser who would be able to get you some answers.

Remember though that they are probably inundated with things from applicants.

But shoot them an email or give them a call.

thanks for the advice! i’ll probably send an e-mail on monday…
