*Official Fall 2013 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

@theresistance
Just curious, how did your TAG get rejected with that GPA?

I think you have a good chance at all of your schools. Best of luck.

Thanks for feedback! During the time of application I had a 3.07 GPA, and the 3.2 is after this semester’s classes. SC claimed I didn’t finish enough of their “foundation” courses, so that’s why the TAG was rejected.

Major: Econ
GPA: 3.4
Applied to: UCSB (TAG) UCD UCSC
Pre Reqs: Done
IGETC: Done

Just concerned with SB. That’s where I want to go and I really hope this TAG thing is the real deal. I know ECON is impacted so Im so worried

Hello! I wanted to know my chances  I’m a second year at UCD so it’s a UC-UC transfer. To me, it seems like UCI almost draws admissions very randomly… by reading this thread, I saw that people with 3.2 GPAs got in while people with 3.9 didn’t… So just crossing my fingers I guess!

Major: Cell Biology
Prerequisites: Done by summer
GEs: Done by summer
GPA: 3.5
ECs/awards: Science and engineering club, IM volleyball, AP Honors Award in 2011, Deans list Fall 2011. Hospital volunteer, two tutoring jobs, a few clubs, and piano in high school.
Other: Failed two community classes over the summer due to family loss (stated in my application) but retook one with a passing grade and retaking the other next quarter.
Personal statements: Okay I guess. Talked about how working in the hospital for 2 years and seeing elderly patients come and go made me want to pursue a career in medicine because of all the people I’ve seen pass away. My other essay was about my tutoring experience and how it was valuable to me that I had the ability to teach children and help them understand.

I really want to get in but I don’t know what my chances are :(

@ NYCALI: TAG is kind of weird. Some schools guarantee admission but maybe not to the major of your choice. I believe UCI has a list of majors that participate in TAG and I believe UCSD admits by college and not by major or something.

Just had a quick question for everyone:

I am trying to transfer from UCR to UCLA or Cal. Prior to this quarter, I had a 3.9 GPA and had been getting straight A’s. I just got my first B this quarter, which brings my cumulative GPA down to a 3.8something. I was wondering if this significantly lowers my chances of getting in? :frowning: I know they like upward grade trends and I feel like I really screwed up this quarter :(

Major: Peace and Conflict Studies (Cal), Anthropology (UCLA)
ECs/Awards: Leadership in many clubs, volunteer work, a couple tutoring jobs, honor societies, Dean’s Honor List every quarter, Chancellor’s Honor List for 2011-2012, piano

Applied: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSD and UCSB
Major: Gender Studies
Prerequisites: Done
GEs: Done by spring
GPA: 3.1 :frowning:
TAG: No
TAP: Yes (with UCLA)
ECs/awards: Volunteered for about 10 hours/ week; Treasurer, ICC Delegate and Liaison for History Club; Associated Students Joint Council Member (1 of 9 or so people); and worked as a TA for a remedial English class for a semester.
Other: I had a lot of medical issues this semester (as well as some, to a lesser extent, last semester), which I mentioned in the additional comments section. So, I received a D as well as 3 B’s this, fall, semester, which dropped my GPA significantly from a 3.47 to a 3.1. I plan on retaking the Biology class, in Winter, and I know they, unfortunately, won’t see that grade when they review the app.
Personal statements: Pretty good. I had multiple people look over them, and my counselor said that there was nothing she would change (she used to work for UCLA reading personal statements). I talked about my early experiences in life (schizophrenic mother, drug-addicted father, foster homes, etc.), and how I moved past them. Then, I talked about the experiences in life that made me choose my major.

Am I completely screwed because of this semester, or will the fact that I mentioned the illness help me, at all? I’m hoping that having completed the TAP program, at my CC, will help me. Hopefully, I’ll get in somewhere. What do you guys think?

Chance me please,
Applied : UCB, UCSD, UCI, UCR
GPA : 3.34
Major Economics. (Berkeley : political economics)
No TAG. Had a chance to UCI but missed it.

Upwarding trend from 2.0 to 3.34 (now)
Got two Cs in 2006 summer,
Got two Bs in 2010 summer,
Came back in 2012, 6As and 2Bs and 1W so far.

A lot of work experiences here and there.
What are my chances?
Thanks in Advance

I bumped this because there are a ton of chance threads that could get more attention in here

Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI
Major: Philosophy
Prerequisites: Done at most schools. UCB has no pre-reqs for phil but have gotten A’s in all philosophy courses.
IGETC: Done by spring
Honors Student
GPA: 3.61
Major GPA: 4.0
TAG: UCSD
TAP: UCB(!!!) and need to finish two classes in spring for UCLA TAP but have applied for it.

Essay I feel was very strong and have maintained a solid upward trend.

I’m very nervous about this transfer process:

Major: Electrical Engineering / Computer Science
Schools applied to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSC
I’m also applying to a few out of state schools but I don’t know how I’d pay for them.

SAT Scores:
CR - 660
M - 510
W - 580

GPA: 3.01 (I had a 3.17 before the fall semester but I got 3 C’s this semester, pretty much shot myself in the foot)
If I get all A’s this Spring it could go up to 3.18 but I’m not sure if that helps…

Prereqs: All will be completed by spring 13

Work Exp: Tutor to a blind older woman, part time cashier

EC’s:
-Usher for various electrical engineering conferences,
-helped in the kitchen at my church,
-ASB secretary in high schoo

Awards: applying to several scholarships

Additionals(I mentioned these in my essay):
-I’m living on one room with my family/ half starving all the time (But I dress nice and of course I work out). I study in cafes.
-I’m female and was born in central america (just became a citizen last year).
-Endured domestic violence in the past
-after high school i worked as an electrician ( I know that’s weird for a girl) because electrical engineering has always been my passion.
-I had a rough first year in college and displayed a strong upward trend until this fall semester.
-First Gen College Student

What are my chances? Any helpful suggestions / tips? I didn’t even know about TAG until I started reading these posts, there’s a lot I had to learn on my own because I had no one to guide me.

I’m scared that none of these schools will accept me…

@ Ryeina based on what I have been reading I would guess that UCB & UCLA would be a high reach because of the competitiveness of the major and the average GPA. However, I wanted to ask what Pre-req’s specifically did you complete and which out of state schools are you applying to?

I’ve completed all the Calculus Series and Will be taking Diff Eq & Linear Algebra this semester. I’ve done the 3 semesters of C++. I will be done with 3/4 of the Physics sequence this spring which is what UC requires. Also some intro to engineering courses. All the English sequence is done too.
I’m still researching into out of state schools so if you have any suggestions for out of state schools I would appreciate it (:
Thanks for replying!

Hey so I’ve been lurking for a while and decided to finally make a profile on here. Can somebody PLEASE chance me?

Major: English
GPA: 3.2
Applied to: UCSB, (missed tag) UCLA, UCB
Pre Reqs: All but one for ucsb, missing some courses in other schools
IGETC: Complete
EC: Was an english tutor in school writing center for a semester (wish i stayed in there) not much else

I’ve got a strong upward trend in my grades and I explained why my gpa is so low in my personal statements. Also why I really want to major in english. I believe them both to be very good although I’m not sure if it’s much help in my case especially since ucsb doesn’t read them. I know I don’t have much of a shot at both ucla and ucb but I decided to apply anyways for the off chance I might get in. I’m really only concerned with sb since that’s my only real chance between my choices. I also applied to sjsu if anyone has any knowledge of the csu admission process. Thanks.

@Shmohawk

I’d say you have a pretty good chance of getting in for SB. LA and Berk not so much. I had a friend who is currently attending UCSB as a poli sci major and applied with a 2.9 GPA. Funny thing was, he got into UCD, UCSB, and was waitlisted for UCI. Crazy how some things work out huh?

@shmo Are those the only schools you applied to? None of those schools seem like safeties.

Updated:
Current School: Rutgers University
Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCSB
Major: Microbio, Molecular toxicology(UCB), Chemistry (UCLA)
Prerequisites: Have required. Missing 2nd semester of Orgo and the lab( it’s only offered as a block here based on completion of 1 semester). Missing calc II III for UCLA and calc based physics because its not offered.
IGETC: partial certification
GPA: 3.76
Major GPA: 4.0
ECs/awards: tutor and transfer mentor for incoming students at Rutgers University.

Have instate residency. Went to community college in California for 2.5 years and transferred to Rurgers university. Essay strong have a strong upward trend from freshman year. Have had a 4.0 for the last 1.5 years. Will have 86 transferable credits by this spring.
To reiterate I am transferring from Rutgers as a resident of California.

@science Are you sure you can transfer to a UC? You won’t be able to if you have junior-senior standing.

I’ll have 86 credits. I qualified last spring for junior standing.

@themadman

That’s pretty funny although I thought the minimum GPA to apply to UC was a 3.0? Did he have all his pre-reqs finished?

@mermaker

Well I applied to San Jose State and Cal Poly SLO as well. I obviously don’t have a shot at cal poly either but I decided since my gpa is so low and that almost anywhere I apply isn’t a safety that I would apply to cal, and ucla, and cal poly just because. (Despite how absurd that sounds.) I honestly only expect to have a true shot at ucsb and sjsu since I have most of the pre reqs for those schools. I hate the uncertainty I have in my school choices but there isn’t really much I can do given my situation and that there really isn’t anywhere else I wanted to apply to.
