@ rickyseg: lol. Yeah sorry you had to see that. Hey I’m curious, not that it matters for me now, but how does a 1 year transfer work? I met some 1 year transfers here. Why don’t more people do it?

@iDizzle your post certainly make me feel better … I’d love to go to UCLA but I guessed with my GPA UCLA is out of reach. Anyway I am happy to get in to any good UC or cal poly. Can you let me know what was your major?

Well, I’m not sure about others but i took 7 ap classes total (5 senior year) passed 5 of them with 3+ most of them were 4 and 5, so its around 16 units from that I took ja 1 senior year got a C (one of 2 cs and then 5 A’s) then Ja2 didn’t have time with sports failed (retaking with like a 98%lol) then I took wr1 and mus27 that summer (wr1 second C but it was bull my teacher had a 1.2 on ratemy professor i also didnt anticipate CC classes and short semester. and writing is my worst subject) this semester i took 14 units next semester is 19

@ transfer25: I’m an anthro major, global studies minor.

@ rickyseg: So you’re saying that basically you have a lot of AP units that count?

yea, and a few classes before this semester (3)
hopefully my chance gets read

CCC Transfer Fall 2013 only UC I’m applying to is UC Davis (rest are CSU’s).

Major: Managerial Economics
Alt. Major: Community & Regional Development

GPA: 3.59

I do have a TAG agreement, but was wondering how competitive the ManEcon major at UCD is. Anyone have a clue?

I am a CCC poli sci major that just submitted the UC app for UCSD (TAG), UCLA (TAP) and UCB. I am pretty confident about UCSD, and I am just going to assume that I won’t get into UCB so that I don’t get my hopes up. What I am worried about is UCLA.

My GPA by the end of this fall will be (if I ace french) a 3.61 and if i get a B in french, a 3.55 (all my other grades this sem are guaranteed A’s). I know that isn’t very high, however I had one semester where I was having a lot of personal problems (plus being a fulltime student athlete) and it really affected my grades. My counselors told me not to worry too much because it is VERY obvious by looking at my transcripts that it was an isolated incident (the semester before was all A’s and the ones after are mostly all A’s with an occasional B). I mentioned this in the “additional comments” section of the application. Needless to say my GPA would be waaaay higher had it not been for that screw up.

My personal statement received very good feed back from my counselors and my English 3 Honors professor (who has apparently read many personal statements before), I have done a lot of community service and I used to work at a US embassy in Asia, which i tied into my personal statement. I also talked about how i have lived abroad and travelled a lot. I am a student athlete and as the TAP suggests, an honors student. Also, I have aced all of my “major prep” classes (which I am assuming is just the classes that are needed to transfer and are relevant to my major) so my major prep gpa would be a 4.0. Finally, I wrote that my father is a UCLA alumni which I am sure will help a little bit even if they won’t ever formally admit that legacy counts. Oh and I have completed all of my pre rec except for Poli Sci 2 which is only offered in the spring anyway and I am already enrolled in it for next sem.

What are my chances of getting in?

@Aztec - Your father being an alumni will do nothing for you. It’s like that for all UC’s and CSU’s. And even a 3.61 is very low for UCLA Poli Sci.

Hey guys is a 3.86 a reach for ucla and Berkeley economics? I have tap for ucla. All prereqs completed and good work experience etc

Can an impacted major (Econ) affect admission with TAG?? (To UCSB)

Even if you have the gpa requirement met (I have a 3.6), major course work done, igetc, TAG, and everything necessary for transfer??

@iDizzle (sorry my response is to a comment 3 pages back—busy with finals lol)

Thank you for your help I really hope I get into LA too, but as I said at this point I’ll be happy to get in anywhere. I’d also like to thank you for scaring the hell out of me over this IP math requirement. No sarcasm–really, thank you, because it made me realize that I needed to chill the f@#k out.

See I’ve taken seven classes a semester every semester following my HS graduation. All of it in an effort to meet the requirements of schools I used to think were beyond my reach. I just wanted to obtain this “college experience” I felt was a mandatory rite of passage. I mean I CRIED when I turned down admission to CSU Northridge for a tiny CCC. But in the long-run I know it was the best option.

Sure I’ve faced the CC “stigma” as I’m sure many of you have. You know the one where people ask what you’ve been up to and when you answer “online classes” or “community college” they give you that awkward sympathetic look?

But at this point I have done absolutely EVERYTHING in my power to gain admission into a top UC. Now it’s up to the admissions officers and no longer in my hands.

So to the people (like me) with stressed-induced stomach ulcers, breathing into paper bags and seeking reassurance on a thread designed to compare stats with fellow prospective transfers, know that it’s going to be okay no matter what happens. Be positive and remember Fall 2014 is not the end of the universe.

Best of Luck to everyone and Happy Holidays!

@ Persephone93: You’re very welcome! I know what you mean. It’s finals week too. I’ve spent the past 2 weeks living in the library and working on 3 papers, so I am barely beginning to study for my finals coming up on thursday and friday, one of which is cumulative and worth 60% of my grade. lol. After this week I will have successfully completed my first quarter at UCLA. LOL! Sorry about the IP math/english requirement thing. I just want everyone to be well informed since it’s not really a widely emphasized detail.

I think you will be glad that you didn’t attend CSUN. If you did attend CSUN, you’re chances of going from CSU to UC would be very slim. I’m actually an older student, I’m 25 so before heading back to CC in 2009 I had been to hell and back. From my experience, CC was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. When I first stepped foot on the campus back in 2009 after being out of school for 4 years I would have never dreamt that I would end up at UCLA.

So yeah, you’ve got the right idea. In the upcoming months between Jan-April, there will be mass hysteria here on collegeconfidential regarding GPA’s blah blah “I hope I get in”, “do you think I will get in” etc etc. Just push hard in the upcoming semesters so that during that time among the chaos, you will known that you’ve done all that you could and its all up to the reviewers.

Might I add that there have been 2 incidents of armed robbery involving students, one of the incidents actually happened on “the Hill” at the dorms. So walking home from the library in the early morning is a no go. What a way to add to the stress of finals. As Sweet Brown would say, “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” LOL

I am transferring from santa monica college as a communications major. I have a 4.0 and have taken all my major prereqs + will be done with the IGETC by spring. I am in scholars/tap and I have extra curriculars like theatre, singing, choirs, musicals, and volunteered for charities and temples. I am applying to UCLA UC BERKELEY, UC SAN DIEGO, and my first choice is UCLA.

ok here is the long and short of my story, I am 26 years old and graduated high school in 2004. I have been working full time since I was 18 years old and have been working for the same rather large company for the past 6 years full time. I decided about a year and a half ago to go back to school and enrolled in my local CCC. basically I have decided to try and attempt medical school but that is another story. I am planning on majoring with a BA of anthropology at UCLA as a transfer. I have completed all my IGETC with a current 3.9, I only need 1 college level math and 2 more anthro classes. I have about 100 hours of emergency room volunteer and currently work 32 hours a week and volunteer 8. so that limits my ECs. Since i can not relocate UCLA is my one and only hope at a UC otherwise Ill be stuck at CSUN:(. anyone have any chances or suggestions for me. I have a unique story as my mother has a disease and has been handicapped since I was young, I have had to work to help the family and this is why I never was encourage to pursue college, I would also be a first gen college student. Thank you guys for any information,

@ RCLA325: You’re in. Look at my posts. I was in the same position as you.

btw, I wonder if anyone is “undie-running” tonight. It’s wednesday of finals week but its raining. LOL

CCC transfer for Fall 2013
Applying to: UCSB, UCSC, UCI, UCSD, and UCLA
Major: Cultural Anthropology
Alt. Major: Philosophy
GPA: 3.13
ECs: working ~25 hours week, Excursion Club ~4hr/wk, attending UCSB and UCLA via cross enrollment, receiving my Honors Program Diploma, giving speech at Paper Conference, some other little things

I was denied to every UC except Merced out of high school even though I had a 4.4, 1830 SAT, and positions in student government.
I now attend Santa Barbara City College and the only school I want to go to is UCSB. I just found out that I missed my TAG by .07 and it feels like high school again.
My roommate got her UCSB TAG with a 3.17, but I guess that mathematically makes more sense.

I’m afraid I won’t get in. Is there any chance?
I know that I don’t have a chance at UCSD or UCLA, my counselor just had me apply to UCLA based on TAP.

@alex You might have a chance at UCSC. And I’m pretty sure your friend will get his TAG denied next semester.

@mermaker She got in with her TAG at UCSB with a 3.17. She is a junior attending right now.

@alexisonfiree
Are you sure your friend got in with TAG itself, or was denied TAG and got accepted through regular admission anyways?
As for you, I think you will be fine if you really are a TAP student (completed yours school’s honors program). Good luck.

Major: Computer Science B.S.
GPA: 3.2
TAG: No it was rejected from Santa Cruz
IGETC: No
Pre-reqs: Will be fully completed in Spring 2013
Applying to: UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine
EC: Held officer positions in various clubs relevant to my major

I’ve had a positive grade trend over the past few semesters, and this semester got a 4.0 GPA in Calculus 3 and two Computer Science classes. I have 3 more classes to finish in the Spring and I’ll be finished with everything. Hopefully the positive grade trend will help me get into Davis.
