@MTBcrazy93: The average GPA admitted for UC-to-UC transfers to UCLA last Fall was 3.66. UC-to-UC transfers had a 20% admit rate vs a 30% admit rate for students transferring from CCC. Also, admitted CCC transfers for mechanical engineering had an average GPA of 3.89. UCSD is getting very competitive as well but I would say that you have a SOLID chance at UCI. UCI has great engineering programs.

@RandPaul: Your GPA is good. And since when was PE required? LOL. I also hope that you know that Pre-reqs does NOT equal IGETC. Pre-polisci is an impacted major so you want as many pre-reqs done as possible to make yourself competitive. What community college are you transferring from?

Ohh I see. Yeah I think I’m going to take Muay Thai or Jeet Kune Do next quarter just to get some exercise and free units. The gym at school is always packed. LOL.

is my GPA good? considering im a one year transfer and that I have the IGETC completed and for my major of criminology Law and Society (with an alternate in psych which i will have an AA in) For the recommended prereqs i have SOCECOL E8, Psy BEH 9, Psy BEH 11A, PSY BEH 11B, PSY BEH 11C, SOCECOL 10, SOCECOL 13. the only thing on assist between Irvine Valley college and UCI that I dont have is Crm/LAW C7 but that is because ivc doesnt have a comparable course.

@ Rickyseg: What is your GPA? Criminology is not an impacted major either right? If you have all your prereqs except for the “No course articulated” ones than you’re fine. They understand that some schools don’t offer it and you will have to take it when you transfer. There was one course that was not offered at my community college and I was prepared to go to another community college to try to take it, believe it or not. I’m glad I didn’t waste my time trying that since it would have been impossible to get class as a new student at a new ccc. LOL.

Being a one-year transfer will not have any affect on your application. That is why they never recommend you do it unless you know you can or are absolutely in a hurry, or your grades may suffer. I actually met someone here that transferred in 1-yr with a 4.0 GPA. That’s just ridiculous. LOL

Edit
Oh sorry, I see it, 3.3. I don’t think you have anything to worry about dude. Your major isn’t impacted(I think), and having a GPA higher than the TAG requirement is pretty safe. However… I had a 3.5 and was waitlisted for UCI last year. I still got in eventually but it was stupid. UCI required Calc, C programming, and Java for…Anthro! LOL. UCI was the only school that had those requirements and I ended up finishing both CS classes but didn’t get around to taking calc. I wasted my time, didn’t even end up going to UCI.

@ RandPaul: Yeah I’m in my 2nd quarter at UCLA. I’m an older non-traditional student. I’m 25 now and went back to cc when I was 21. My EC’s weren’t great. I just put like some church stuff, key club etc.

I think it was my work experience and my PS that was good. I’ve been working since I was 16 since my family is low-income and while at ccc from 2009-12 I was working 50-55 hours a week to pay bills and take care of my family while pulling off a 3.5 gpa.

In my PS I wrote about failing out of HS, failing out of ccc from 05-07, becoming a drug addict, overcoming drug abuse, working full time to take care of my family, and going back to school.I also wrote how I realized what I wanted to study after working for so long. My last job I worked at for 5 years, I was an account executive.

That’s the nice thing about UCLA and Cal and how they take your PS into consideration as well. However, I did get accepted to 11 out of the 12 schools that I applied to. I applied to all UC campuses(except for Merced), CSUN, CSUF, CSULB, and SFSU. I got accepted to all except Cal.

My bro also transferred to UCLA in 2011 with a 3.78. He was rejected for Psych since its impacted, but luckily he was TAG certified and got accepted as his alternate.

I’ve posted the decision/chance threads from last year. You will get the most accurate and realistic information from these threads. Sure it’s a lot to skim through but if you really want to know how you stand than you should flip through them. Just slap on 1.0 to the GPAs to accommodate for the increase in competitiveness for 2013.

@Idizzle, to be honest I should be higher than 3.3 because the two C’s on my grades is 1 japanese class i took as a hobby during senior year when I had 5 AP classes and sports and then the 2nd is Wr 1 during the summer that year, with the worst teacher at the school. My first real semester that just passed I got straight A’s (made deans list) so in my opinion im pretty much a 4.0
