*Official Fall 2013 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

@ HokumPeddler: You shouldn’t be too worried. I was in the same position as you; high school slacker, kicked out of high school, dropped out of my first years of community college, drugs etc etc. I went back to community college in 09, did well and transferred. The UC’s like to see improvement in grades! Good luck!

Hello everyone, I am here for a “Chance Me” as well with some feedback. I applied F11 and was accepted into Sac State & UC Santa Cruz. I did not complete my SIR (Pay) and didn’t pass Statistics (got a D).

I will be re-applying F13. Will be going from a 2.7 GPA → 3.0 (or 3.1 if take summer course) by the time I apply.

GPA: (2.86 current) When apply 3.0 (3.03/3.1+) If take summer courses. I have no plan in taking courses in F13/S14 right now.

I was rejected from UCSB because I am currently doing my math requirement, and have not taken another transferable math course. Can anyone tell me if the other UC’s will take this into account??? UCLA said that as long as I do the math requirement by the end of the Spring 2013 semester, I should be good. I’m freaking out right now.

Schools applied to

UCLA, Berkeley, UCI, UCSD, UCSB (Rejected)

@ GQSUZIE: If you can have a 3.0 by next year I’d say you would be in the running for most of them and maybe for SC and SB. If you don’t know what TAG is than you should definitely look into it. TAG= Transfer Admission GUARANTEE.

If you really want to increase your chances than I would advise you to take Summer. I transferred when I was 24 also, I took classes year-round while working 50+ hours a week. Good luck.

@ Jalberto: Your statistics being IP this semester is definitely going to be your downfall. I’ve said it over and over again to the 2013 hopefuls that if you have your math or English requirement IP during the Spring, be prepared for consequences.

It’s hard for the UC’s to make a decision if you’ve left the most basic math and English requirement IP during your very very last semester at CC. They don’t know if you will pass the class or not.

Did anybody get accepted into any UCs from a CSU school?

@iDizzle You may be right, but I’ve heard of people in my situation getting rejected from UCSB and getting into UCLA and Berkeley. It certainly isn’t worth the risk though. Anyone else in a similar situation??

@ jalberto: At this point you can only hope for the best. Good luck!

In last years threads there were some people in your situation but I don’t think I ever heard from them again. Not sure if they had gotten into the other schools.

@iDizzle you have now scared the crap out of me. I am I/P on the IGETC required math course and biology. I had to take last semester off due to illness (covered in my application). I have a 4.0 GPA leading up to this semester. I am a French major, and I picked Eleanor Roosevelt College (ERC) at UCSD as my first choice . ERC has a heavy language requirement as part of their GE requirements. So I have the language GE completed, which I can’t imagine a lot of ERC applicants have. I literally stopped breathing when I saw your post above about getting denied because a person is I/P on Math… do you think I have extenuating circumstances?

CHANCE ME PLEASE!

@ eyespy: Sorry, but its very hard to say. jalberto was rejected from UCSB with a 3.8 gpa for that reason(same situation that I saw during last years transfer decisions). I think I had mentioned the math/English-IP-during-spring thing to you earlier in this thread. In this case a 4.0 may not matter either.

I think you may have a shot if you mentioned your circumstances in your PS. However, only UCLA and Cal actually read the PS and put it into consideration when making a decision.

If you get rejected you can appeal with those circumstances. However, it depends on the school, whether they will accept that circumstance as valid. In the 2011 transfer threads, there was a student that was rejected, appealed, and had a low GPA due to missing class for medical reasons(they had cancer). I believe only UCI actually took that into consideration. I remember that member said that UCSD would not even entertain the notion.

On the bright side, jalbert said that this only pertains to UCSB and UCSC, which I’m not too sure about. I also never heard from the people from last years threads who were in that position so I have no idea whether they got accepted else where.

Sorry to scare you, just sit tight and see how it pans out!

FINGERS CROSSED!!! REALLY WANNA GET INTO CAL!!!

School: UCB,UCD Fall 2013

EC: Some volunteer work, some club member

**Was I supposed to complete all major pre-req before submitting the application back in fall? In my case I still have 2 pre-req (Biology and Sociology for CAL) completing in spring before transferring … would it affect my chance?

@iDizzle okay I called UCSD Admissions and I spoke with an admissions counselor (not just someone who answered the phone). He said that if you are TAG, you must finish your Math etc by the Fall. However, if you are just a regular transfer student, as long as you finish by the Spring you are totally fine. Could it be that these other students were TAG? I’m not TAG…

@ eyespy: By fall you mean Fall 2012?

^ Yes, meaning if you are I/P on required math or english courses right now, and you’re TAG, you may be in trouble. As TAG, you were to have finished them last fall 2012. However, I’m not TAG I’m just a regular transfer, and as such as long as I’m finished by this Spring I’m okay. So I’m wondering if those that had problems were TAG?

@ boyzalan

Completing those prerequisites now is fine.

Wooo about a month away!

Are campus visits worthwhile? Do the schools care?

Yes, no.

You should visit before you spend two years of your life there.

@ GoToCC: They are worthwhile if you’ve never been. For me, I had pretty much been to all the S. California UC campuses since I frequently visited friends attending those schools. Do they care? You mean just go to visit on your own? The UC’s are public campuses so yeah you can just go, pay for parking, and walk around. They usually have tours though. I see “field trip” groups on campus here like everyday. It’s finals week and there were still tours going on. It was funny because during finals week the campus is a ghost town. Tumble weeds rolling around and everything. lol.
