*Official Fall 2013 UC Transfer CHANCE thread*

@LIz3125 Me Too  It’s a rare moment where I encounter another art history major.

@kay1541 Finally! It’s almost impossible to find a fellow AH freak! Best of Luck!

@ Liz3125: Oh okay, my mistake. I was going to ask if you applied to any other art schools. My gf just graduated from Art Center in Pasadena in December. She finally got hired for her dream job on Monday. LOL

@Liz3125 Good luck to you too!!! :)

@weirdough

100% into UCB, 99% into UCLA.

Whoops! I somehow missed this thread (and instead posted in a new thread). I’ll re-post here. Many thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to chance me!

Schools: UCB, UCLA
Major: Psychology (impacted, I know…this makes me nervous)
GPA: 3.81
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Yes
TAP: Berkeley, but not UCLA
Pre-requisites: Did all of the Psych pre-reqs (both for UCLA and UCB) that were available at my CCC. Also I will gradaute from my CC with an Associates in Psych. Will this help to show that I am dedicated to the subject?

Essays: TAP adviser told me my essays were some of the best they had ever seen. I worked really hard on them.

Honors: Dean’s List, PTK

Extracirriculars: Officer of CC organization, some tutoring hours, some volunteer hours, but mostly lots of work experience (I’m an older student, had to work to support myself for many years). I am a bit worried about EC’s…I had to work so much that I didn’t have much time outside of school.

Other: First-generation college student, low low income, overcame some difficult family/personal circumstances (discussed in one essay)

Thanks so so much to anyone who is willing to give some input!

@CQBanana I’d say you have a pretty good shot. Even with an impacted major your circumstances sound like they would make your 3.81 look like a 4.00. I myself talked about personal circumstances to explain why I only have a 3.6 (I’m applying as a poli sci major which is also really impacted) and yours sound like they were a lot harder than mine. So pretty much if you dont get in i surely wont hahaha

Thanks Aztecstudent! I hope we both get in…at least we won’t have to wait to find out. I’m just really glad that UCB truly reads our personal statements and considers our personal circumstances.

Good luck!

@ CQBanana:I think you have a great chance. I’m an older student as well. I didn’t have many EC’s but I had 5 years of full-time work experience in the corporate world(to take care of my family). I didn’t have a stellar GPA either which was explained in my PS. I got accepted to 11 of 12 schools that I applied to. Sometimes I think older/returning students have the edge, life experience is a kicker.

My little brother goes to UCLA as well but was rejected for psychology. He had a 3.78 w/TAP but got accepted for his alternate major.

I would really appreciate if you guys would chance me! I really hope to be admitted to UCLA but I dont think my chances are too good. I started out with a low GPA after my first year at a cc and then improved over the last 2 semesters (straight A’s). I have already been admitted to UCSB which I’m beyond thankful for but I’m stressing about the rest. I applied last year and got into UCI off the waitlist and denied everywhere else. I really appreciate the input!

CCC Transfer Fall 2013 to UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI.

Physical Anthro Lab: A

Honors Program/TAP Certified for UCLA
IGETC Certified

84 units completed (by the end of this semester)
3 W’s on my transcripts

Tons of extracurriculars and volunteer work
I would really appreciate your opinions, thanks a million!!!

Please chance me for UCLA and UCSD!
Major: Physiology
Transfer G.P.A: 3.56
Major G.P.A: 3.8
All major prereq completed except physics
IGETC: Completed
TAP: UCLA

Work Experience: Work at hospital as EMT
EC: volunteered for local clubs and children’s hospital

Personal statement:
I think I did pretty well with my personal statement and had an english professor edit it.

Hey everyone! Here’s my stats and info. I started at Georgetown University, took a medical leave, took classes at San Jose City College, and have since studied at DeAnza College on my second medical leave from Georgetown.

Schools applied too: UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCSD (accepted), UCSC (accepted)

GPA
Georgetown (Fall 2010): 3.9
Spring 2011: Withdrew, all W’s
SJCC (Fall 2011): 4.0
Spring 2012: Withdrew, all W’s
DeAnza (Fall 2012-present): 3.95
8 AP’s, all with passing scores

EC’s and Awards

HS: Debate team, won awards at local tournaments, invitationals, and CA state tournament
Book award from Weslayan University junior year of HS
College: Mock trial (Georgetown)
Debate team (DeAnza) Won some awards, but UC’s don’t know of most of these
Other activities at DeAnza, but these started after I submitted my apps

Work and volunteer experience:

Interned at local community education non-profit from May 2011-Sept 2011
Worked as programs assistant at said non-profit from Sept 2011-Jan 2012
Interned at a law school’s asylum and refugee center during Summer 2012
Volunteered at food bank and low-income school during HS

Worked on multiple drafts of the personal statements, counselors at transfer center at DeAnza liked them as submitted.

The school I really want is UCB; they sent a message in early March inquiring about the gap from Spring 2012-Fall 2012 in my educational path. I responded with an unofficial transcript from Georgetown and my activities (the internship during Summer 2012) during that time.

Thanks everyone for looking!

@johnnd54: I’m guessing UCI and UCSB will take you. Idk about UCSD, I’d give you a 70-80% chance of making it. UCLA might be a bit tough, they literally received almost 100,000 applications this year and usually the average GPA for a major is somewhere in the high 3 range (and almost 4.0 for the most competitive majors like business).

It’d help if we knew a little more specifics about your extracurriculars and work experience, it makes a significant difference.

@john UCLA: 50/50 UCSD: should be in UCI: Reach if you didn’t complete Cal and that programming class.

^^^ Oh yess. The pesky programming classes. It still amazes me that UCI requires calc and programming for anthro. I didn’t take calc but did take C+(prereq to java) and java. I got accepted to UCI w/o calc though.

@ chessunit: What is your major?

Major is political science, I’ve completed IGETC and major prereqs for the major and L & S requirements.

When will the admission decisions be out for transfers to ucla?

Chance me please.

Intended major: Bioengineering
Major GPA : 3.82
College GPA: 3.77

Schools applied to : ucla, ucsd, uc berkeley, uc irvine, uc davis

I eagerly want to get into ucla but i am so nervous about not getting in.
Extrac activities include 100 hours of volunteering at a hospital

My personal statement in my idea was an honest and great representation of my personal qualities.

^^ You guys can check the UCLA Transfer Profile 2012 for avg admitted GPA’s for your major. Just google it.

@collegeguy231 If you have the required pre-reqs you should get into SD, Irvine and Davis. I don’t know about LA and Cal, I’ve never looked into them.
