Honestly, I do not know how much the prestige of one university has over another. I would assume students from institutions with more prestige are given preference but I would also assume that if the disparity between the GPAs of students who attended a 4-year university and a community college is noticeably large, then it’s fair game? Just my thoughts. Hope it helped.

Technically, academic institutions are not supposed to judge you based on the school you are transferring from, as long as it’s an accredited institution. That would defeat the purpose of having the transfer option; however, if they have 2 identical candidates on paper, except one goes to a top 10 University and the other goes to a CC. The one from the top 10 school would probably be rated a little bit higher. Theoretically that would make sense, but I would be willing to bet that is not always the case. I could see instances where you could be rated lower than the CC candidate. The admissions committee is probably going to look closely at why you are transferring. If you present yourself as having some kind of conflict with your current institution, maybe they won’t want to take a risk on you being an ******* (I’m not saying thats you; I’m just using an example). I think its all really subjective and hard to tell if going to a really good school will actually help you. I would say no, it doesn’t help you, but also it doesn’t hurt you. Your supporting material (essays, recommendations, EC) means a lot more. And, grades speak for themselves. I doubt you’ll be judged different for going to a good school. That being said, a 3.62 is a good GPA.

Also, I received an email today about missing material. I’m guessing they are getting ready to make decisions shortly.

I was at their admissions office yesterday, they told me decisions will come out late May or very early June.

after stalking previous gw transfer threads, I found gwadmissions’ twitter! https://twitter.com/GWAdmissions

they tweeted this on May 15th: “We will be releasing transfer decisions within the next few days. Don’t worry. They’re coming soon.” in response to a transfer student asking when decisions will be released. maybe we’ll know by monday?

I hope so! I called their office a few days ago and they said no sooner than the end of May :-(.

I called today and someone told me they should release decisions this week for transfers.

SO pumped!

really? I was told that decisions would be sent out in mid-june due to graduation and stuff…

This is ridiculous! They’ve said everything from May 1st to Mid-May, to “this week”, to “no later than the end of May”, and now MID-JUNE? Goodness.

Just got an email telling me that while the committee was reviewing my application, they noticed that I had a missing transcript. I’m contemplating whether I should even send in my transcript. I’ve been accepted somewhere else and they have given me a hefty sum of financial award…

Honestly, @newleaf I wouldn’t. If they’re willing to wait to recieve a transcript from you that must mean we won’t hear a decision for transfers for another few weeks. I’ve already been accepted to UC Berkeley and the SIR is due the 1st I really have no more time to wait. This makes me loose hope in that school about how they are able to keep things organized

One thing I have noticed about George Washington University. They are beyond a shadow of a doubt the most disorganized and inefficient school I have applied to – and I applied to about 9 schools! A good school keeps things running smoothly…

@TideChange & @emersongarcia

Thanks y’all! I think deep down I knew I shouldn’t bother but you guys (or girls) just verified what I was feeling, I suppose
Best of luck to both of you!

@emersongarcia, I completely agree! GW has been the worst. They have lost my files numerous times and when I requested a confirmation of a fax they kept telling me to check back in a few days.

So when can we assume to hear back? This week till end of May is basically what we are hearing?

@ werc: No surprise. GWU is, I think, the most expensive university in the nation. And, again, no surprise, the least efficient. The admissions folks aren’t even nice. Whenever I call they’re dismissive and rude, as if they hate their job. Blah. Not even worth it. So turned off by the schools.

Just emailed them yesterday and this is what they replied: Thank you for your email and continued interest in the George Washington University. We have not released the transfer decisions for the fall semester. We are hard at work in the office and expect to release the decision sometime later this month or in early June. We appreciate your patience.

So i guess we still have to wait :(

I called yesterday, and they said the same thing: late May/early June. I guess next week?

I’m so over it! If you are going to be the most expensive school in the nation at least release your decisions early! Or maybe hire more people…?

Part of the “Industrial College Complex”

I am so disappointed in the length of wait time and disorganization that is coming from this school. I have heard wonderful things about the interior design department though, so I am still anxious to hear back.

@newleaf, good luck to you at the school you have already been accepted to!

I GOT IN! Just checked my GWU Admissions Activity Center on a whim this afternoon and I got in! I encourage everyone to go check theirs as well!
