the ww2 question was so broad and expansive...i like discussed an effect on every continent plus Cold War plus UN plus American hegemony plus internatonal economics

A question for the History of the Americas people- What areas did you cover? We covered Europe, the U.S., Latin America, and some China. We didn't go over Canada at all- my teacher told us to skip those questions on Paper 3. We also didn't cover Africa or Australia.

Well, updating on the Music Theory SL exam I took yesterday... I suppose it went OK. Thanks to those who informed me of the structure of the exam. My thanks were long overdue. Anyhow, I was the only person taking that exam, and I think I did OK... although I don't know what to expect, partly because this is my first year of IB exams. Oh well... I'm hoping for a 7 in Geography SL and a 5 in Music Theory SL. Thanks for all of your support!

Hey guys, I was looking around, and people mention "resitting" exams. Does this mean they are retaking them?

Yeah. They'll sit the November session, taking the same editions of the exams as the other people in the Nov session.

7= High A or 100??
6.5= 95?
6- low A or 90

what do these grades correspond to when you apply to US colleges.....

if you have an average of 6.5 is that a 95???

No. They are similar to AP scores in that they do not mean a certain percentage. There are certain words that correspond w/ each number. ie: 3 is "mediocre." A score of a 6 or 7 is considered very solid.

would you say a 6.5 average is ivy league acceptable especially if it represents economics higher, chem higher, english higher, geo standard, french, math higher, TOK. I thought Ivies only loojk at straight 7's.
I cannot find anyone who can answer this question. thanks

I don't think Ivies would only look at straight 7's- i'm pretty sure that's not humanly possible!!!

Anyway, a total score of 38+ should put you well within the range of Ivies as well as Oxbridge.

actually, for oxbridge, I think you need 40+..

If you pass with 24, I think, pat yourself on the back. IB is more than final exams. If you get over 30 pts as a full dip candidate, you will get many credits at the US colleges. For the Ivys, forget getting any credit though they like the degree. If you get over 36, you are in the running at major UK schools unless you pay full fees and then you can squeak by with less.

By the way, we had one student with straight 7s in his classwork and on his reports prior to the final exams. I bet he didn't get straight 7s on the exams. Maybe, he stood a chance. You can't compare the IB mark scheme to US grades.

Kathy, I would hope that this web site would have taught you that
1) College isn't just about getting into an ivy
2) Bad test scores don't automatically get you rejected
3) Excellent test scores don't automatically get you in

I know people who have gotten into Harvard with a 6 average. I know a person at stanford who got a couple 5's. In fact, I pretty much everyone I know who is at a prestigous school has gotten a 5 somewhere. Plus, colleges only know about 2 scores when they accept you.

I knew someone who got straight 7's at the age of 16. She was freaking amazing. She got 100% of available points. She was at Harvard law at the age of 18. Then she was raped and shot dead. Life is a beach isn't it?

Ashveer- She got all 7's? Was she human? (By the way, awesome advice about test scores-CC teaches you so much! :) )

Lucy, I took the 38 directly from Oxford's website. See this.
We also welcome candidates sitting the International Baccalaureate; successful candidates generally have an overall score of at least 38 with 6s and 7s in the higher level subjects.

I want my IB scores NOW. I really don't want to wait until July 6. :(

oh.. well when I talked to someone at Oxford, they told me 40+.. but whatever..

I don't really want my IB scores.. I can wait..

hey, does anyone here who took IB music get a 7 for their past exams? It's just that my music teacher isn't helping, and 6 out of 9 of our class just failed our midyears (practise exams, but the final is in 4 months, so it's serious). If you did, and you havn't thrown out/burned any of your work, then it would be awesome to see an example of unprepared listening that did really well, so I could understand what I am supposed to do. After 1.5 years of taking music, we still don't know!

would you say a 6.5 average is ivy league acceptable especially if it represents economics higher, chem higher, english higher, geo standard, french, math higher, TOK. ooops meant to say instead of geo Europ. History Higher. sorry. But I get everyones point here.Thanks.

Kathy, the Ivies don't have too many applicants with grades out of 7, so it's hard to say. They'll look at all factors to try to understand your grades. It's like me asking "My GPA is 3.9, will i get into Harvard?"

sheetmusic you dont know what you are talking about since my post I met with an admissions person. 6 & 7 s in IBACS are A's. Low or High A's. a 6.5 is like a 95 gpa. and I have gotten lots of private emails saying the same from people in IBAC programs.Thanks anyway for your information but its incorrect. Doesnt matter anyway I have decided to apply to Yale. But I am sick of the whole process. It is the most grueling demeaning waste of energy. It does nothing but burn you out. And my asian classmates are repulsively competitive in my school. My class is split in pieces. I have friends who are no longer speaking to each other or telling anyone where they are applying!!! Korean, Pakistani, Indian, and Chinese students who are first generation whose parents live for this. My school is so competitive the kids eat each other alive during tests. And the system feeds their neurosis and the industry of getting in lives off off the fear!
We have mixed Ibac and AP at our school not a diploma program.. and let me tell you ITS SOOOOOOO COMPETITIVE! At this point if they dont want me the heck with them. There are plenty of great schools and someday maybe the kids will tell the IVY's and their admincom. they are overpriced and just stop applying. The Ivys dont want americans anymore anyway. Do you know some of the top schools offer FULL merit to non americans and they dont have to prove financial need??? Only the Americans have to dance to the process!! SICK

i have my ib exams in may...wayyyy after College admissions ><
