for the short passage, its not appeal for a particular object because they’re talking about a hobby, not a particular object. its also not talking about appeal, but more of how Rubi’s stamp collecting hobby evolved into a trade system with other stamp enthusiasts: that’s why its evolution of a shared pastime
@ABCGIRL Don’t remember the question off the top of my head, but it was definetely something about how "This can skew the results, and as a consequence, the faulty polls would self-fufill their own prophecy.
yea thats correct
Starting to question it myself. At the time it seemed like it definitely emphasized the place. It talked about the mill, the stories, the people, the construction, the countryside. It definitely had a theme of past vs. present, but mainly it was about the place’s resistance to modernization imo.
@gustachurro Yes. But then again I don’t have context so for all I know all of them could be hard.
omg…i just relaized why i was confused on the links math questions…did the pattern include “double green”, i mightve over looked that @medicaldreamer99
I don’t think it’s a hobby because she only went to india to collect the stamps once and the passage focused on the appeal of stamp collection (object) instead of the action collecting stamps
@Hiilikepi You are
making too many logical leaps
Just saying, people might be getting a little confused on “extended analogy” questions. Here’s what (I think) I clearly recall:
Question for music: line was “Authenticity is an absolute, a goal that can never be fully attained, a quest.” Options I remember that best describe the line: unqualified assertion, reluctant concession, extended metaphor.
The Basque reading had a question about what rhetorical device the author uses most often, and I remember options: hypothetical musings, extended comparison.
The music was was definitely unqualified assertion. Extended analogies extend throughout the whole essay, and besides, he used 3 different metaphors, not one single extended analogy. This is an unqualified assertion - there is no statement that qualifies the extreme point of view that authenticity is absolute.
The Basque answer was “extended comparison” because of the numerous comparisons: I felt like I was entering a past era, I spent the summer in a dream, etc.
Did the second paragraph describe the old traditions of the city in Spain? Or was it the tight knit family thing?
“for the short passage, its not appeal for a particular object because they’re talking about a hobby, not a particular object. its also not talking about appeal, but more of how Rubi’s stamp collecting hobby evolved into a trade system with other stamp enthusiasts: that’s why its evolution of a shared pastime”
This is definitely incorrect. There is no evidence whatsoever to support that the hobby evolved into a trade system. The woman has a bunch of stamps. The kids think they’re pretty cool too. That’s basically the gist of the passage.
@nerdboy98 Actually, I did not add new information in. The passage talked about the author’s recollection of Basque country and how it changed, to the author’s dismay. Whether you choose to believe what I’m saying is entirely up to you. I’m just trying to be helpful since you asked.
I don’t support the “Trade system” thinking, but I definitely think it was the evolution of a pastime. The description of Rumi’s first stamps (notice how the essay said “she brought them back to…” and “according to Christopher’s book,” indicating that she was already collaborating with others in the context of the reading). The description of the first stamp is simply the first primitive step in the evolution of the pastime, which grows throughout the reading.
@Mango920452 I thought it was the old generations there was a choice like bout something like that
@herpinburpin Hey, just to add to your post, another choice for the music question was reluctant concession!
@Nerdboy98 that’s what I said
Yeah the Basque had extended comparisons. He compared things to Virgil as much as anyone would ever want to, and then he also talked about dreams and temporal isolation etc.
@Mango920452 yea ur correct
@Mango920452 I said to characterize ancient traditions? Something ancient…
Thanks @medicaldreamer99 ! Added it
