Official March SAT Math Discussion 2008

Ugh, I wish I paid more attention to this problem... Now it's really bothering me. It's such a simple problem, but I can't recall the exact drawing or the directions.

i'm pretty sure it was first reflect over k, then l.
but the reflected point across line k is actually C (because you make a perpendicular line to link k when you reflect). then you reflect C over line l, ending up where A is.

in the list of answers ... it says that the side of a triangle was 8 .. .so does that mean that there were 3 8s ? ... the area .... median .. and the triangle ??

sheena87: That was a mistake on my part. There were only two 8s on the grid-in section. Sorry!

UPDATED LIST

Multiple Choice:
- negative product: (k-n)(n-k)
- items below average price: 14
- number sequence: 103
- most cost effective crop: carrot
- graph w/ positive slope: I. a>0 & III. a>b
- average rate: 13.3
- (1/3)^-x + (1/3)^-y: 4/9
- total number of books: 195
- y-intercept: -2
- x+y=20: 12
- line of reflection: Point A
- 3:2 ratio of boys and girls: 11th grade
- equilateral triangle with bisector: 30 degrees
- walking graph: 0.6<x<1.0
- hypotenuse of triange: 6sqrt(5)
- vertex of parallelogram: (10, 4)

Grid In:
- square root of 2x+3x+4x: 9/25 or 0.36
- last question: 256
- greatest distance: 14
- difference in dollars: 1200
- 0.25x=15: 60
- area of 5-sided polygon: 8
- given mean and median: 8

lol at this reflection problem. the funny thing is it's probably not going to get a very hard difficulty rating because it's really comes down to two choices

I put A but now I don't know what's right :/

y-intercept: -2

Was one of the answer choices -4 for that one?

I think I got 1230 (instead of 1200) for the difference in price >_<
I made sure that I did inclusive counting too.
Can somebody explain the answer to me??

the diagram...the uh most cost effective crop or whatever...was the answer? and how do u determine that? just look at the percentages in the diagram to the right or somethin?

i did got 1230 fisrt time but i changed to 1200

did you count over 18
3 ?
cuz i did the fisrt time but its actually 2
cuz over 18 means not including 18
so 19,20 -> 2

^ the answer was carrots

y-intercept: -2

Was one of the answer choices -4 for that one?

Anyone?!?!

Wait, I thought the question asked to solve for the difference up to 18 credit hours...
I'm not sure... My memory is really bad X_x;;

you are right, those are the exact words i got 195 also and im pretty sure i didnt get anything wrong

it was up to 20 credit hours
i think

For the reflection problem, I could have SWORN it was only reflected over one line! And that'd be a lot to miss, if I really did miss it while reading the problem.

Hmmm even if it is 20, I still don't know what I did wrong... :-(
Maybe it was some stupid calculator mistake...

no i remember it reflecting twice

O wait, I may have counted over 18 three times...
Agh. I think I got everything in math right except for that x_X;

julie, I also got 7.5 somewhere in the gridins: I think between the two answers that were 8. Oh and I remember an answer like:

|w-123|<= 1/4 or something like that
