At this point I think ND is being intentionally vague and telling people different bouts of bad news because they’re traditional and they don’t want us to feel guaranteed by any means. So I have no idea what is true and what’s not, and I think a lot of the stuff that has been stressing us out on this thread isn’t worth our time. I’m just checking to see when/if people are getting called - I agree with Toast, I think the end of this week would make sense. A happy early surprise will be gladly welcomed tho… Best of luck to everyone, and try to keep a level head.

From studying last year’s thread, I noticed that if you live on the western US you’ll likely get a phonecall in the morning and if you live in the east it will come in the evening. It could be completely irrelevant, but it might help to know approximately when the call will come according to region. I think the time change means they want to call the West Coast early so it is less likely they will have to leave a message with any good news.

Just talked to my admissions officer at ND this morning… He said that at this point they’re getting ready to send off their letters. He also said that 7 people were already taken off in order to “fill very specific gaps in the class”. Besides that, he doubts that they’ll be taking anyone else off. This put me in a bad mood the whole day.

Heard from my counselor as well…said WL letters will go out by Friday or early next week. No other info than that…not sure what to think.

i think the fact that they’re sending out letters at this point means that they have taken off pretty much all the kids that they’re going to.

My counselor will be out of office until Thursday, so I doubt waitlist offers will come before then, too. Hopefully you’re right, grnmen, that they will take a couple people off…

And annekk, why do you think that?

sooo letters=rejections? =not going to the waitlist?

cookie I’ve heard that they do not call EVERYONE accepted off of the waitlist, I guess we’ll just have to see.

@colleges
i guess it was just me speculating because people that i have talked to that have gotten off the wait list received calls. i haven’t heard of someone who got their acceptance through the mail. also last year, letters started coming out towards the middle to end of june and they were rejection letters. so i dont know that was just my thoughts. i could def be wrong.

@annek
when you said “i guess it was just me speculating because people that i have talked to that have gotten off the wait list received calls.” — do you mean this year, or just in general? I haven’t heard of anyone getting calls yet for this year’s class.

ND is not taking anyone off the wait list. Letters to that effect will be mailed soon. Good luck to all.

^the admissions guys say every year that “we do not think we are going to the waitlist this year”…so I wouldn’t give up yet unless you’ve heard that from a more reliable source.

steds,

The problem with that statement is that, in talking with my officer at Notre Dame, he sounded very, very sure that they were not. He even urged me to consider transferring because (he said) he wished that he could admit me on the waitlist, but he can’t. He said that “it would be a miracle if the director came to me and asked me to take any off”.

Sorry to be such a downer, but I just think that we should prepare ourselves for the worst, is all.

I want to cry…

in digging into the situation a little more it looks like the only way Notre Dame will take someone off the waitlist is if other schools start to need to go off the waitlist and then the student picks the other school over Notre Dame. However, it sounds like at this point it would have to be a lot of students that switched and not just one or two.

I know this is very unfortunate, but this year was a really tough year of admissions due to the shear number of applying students to every school.

Now, I know the counselor brought up transferring, but from my experience, unless you know ND is where you want to go and are a extremely social, then I am not sure it is the best idea to transfer…but if you do, you should think about it early and make sure that your classes will be accepted at Notre Dame if you indeed decide to transfer.

Best of Luck wherever you end up and trust me, you will all love whatever school you go to and will all be successful…

I love how my senior year just so happens to be the most difficult year in history to get into notre dame. I thought I might still have had a chance by being on the waitlist (which is better than being flat-out rejected i guess)…looks like it’s going to be UK for me…whoooo

Everyone,
I wish I had something inspirational or encouraging to say, but I am at a loss for words. As for many of you, I’m sure, Notre Dame has been a life long dream and to know that THIS year, of all years, happens to be more selective than the rest, just kills me. I don’t understand God’s plan sending me to Fordham when all I have ever wanted is Notre Dame. I have heard from sooo many people that wherever you go, you will be successful, and unfortunately, I have yet to convince myself of it. I don’t understand and that is what angers me - why they take people who “cant turn down the money” over people who have grown up “Domers.” I am honestly at a loss and want to transfer as soon as I can. I hope that whomever has the desire to transfer, like me, has better luck than we have had with admissions this season. Best of luck to all; you are all in my prayers, and I hope for the best for all of you. Even though I don’t believe it yet, I hope you all believe you will be successful wherever you go.

santaababyyy, I am right with you… I do not know what to do, think, say… I have never felt more crushed. This entire process I have never let myself lose motivation to keep trying. It just seems wrong, as though there must be some mistake. I am planning on transferring as well. It just literally kills me to know that I will be missing out on my freshman year at Notre Dame. It is hard for me to believe that I will be as happy at Marquette as well. I hope to you, myself, and to the rest that everything works out the way it should for ourselves in the next two years…

I’m sorry, last time I checked NONE of us have been rejected yet. Keep your heads and hopes up until you have a letter in your hands that says you’re not in.
