Hi guys:
I am also going to apply to NYU. Currently I’m a CS major at a state university, ranking about 110 on USnews.
59 credits completed and 18 credits in progress
3.927 college gpa
no leadership, but many club members.
Many volunteers
high school robotic club founder
second place of a programming contest
honors program
dean’s list with distinction(4.0) for two semesters

Hs GPA: 4.0

Good luck to everyone! by the way I am an international student, thanks god, nyu doesn’t require TOEFL for those who have taken two college compositions classes! Because I only got a TOEFL score of 84, which is horrible. :)

I submitted my common app not long ago and I just got my netID and everything. In the email they say that all communications will be done online, including the decision notification just in case someone wondered if it was going to be mailed.

Applying to CAS from one of the better SUNY schools
30 Credits
College GPA:3.77
HS GPA: 3.0 SAT: 1860
Recs: very personal and very positive. both put me in top 5% of students they have had
Essays: very well written
Legacy: Mom went to NYU
EC’s: alot of political involvement working with local politicians, cultural stuff, volunteer etc…

We also are very close family friends with a professor at NYU who is willing to write me a rec of some sort, think this will help?

Applying to CAS from a CUNY cc
64 credits completed–will get AS degree in 2012 spring with 90 credits
3.85GPA, however I got 5 W’s. (I dropped MAT203(calculus 3), MAT204(diff.equat.)ENG101(Composition 1)And a speech class, a humanity class…)Most of them get A’s in next semester
Two recs
Few ec’s, only a member of maths club
top 5% in my cc
No legacy…

regonkantai, you are a Math major right? You seem to be in good shape as to what your college profile would be. Ec’s could be a weakness since NYU says their approach to the applications is very holistic; you also did not post your high school stats although being a junior transfer I do not think they will matter that much

anyone know of the stern transfer acceptance rate, or can direct me to the thread? i go to rutgers (nj state school) and am applying as an incoming junior (im a sophomore right now). my gpa isn’t great it’s a 3.750 cumulative. in high school, my gpa was out of 100 and i had a 91. sat i did pretty well, 680 cr, 740 math, 780 writing. i also took sat II and got an 800 on math 2. do i at least stand a chance?

any advice/tips would be helpful

by the way i applied for stern out of high school and was waitlisted. i dont kno if that means anything as a transfer applicant tho. i also applied for georgetown mcdonough and cornell, although those are more reaches for me.

^ I’m not sure but I think the transfer acceptance rate is 12-13%. Georgetown McDonough and Cornell might actually be easier, I think they have 20%+ acceptance rate (although they may vary school to school too).

I have difficulty believing the transfer rates are as low as people are claiming on this thread.

Last year the overall transfer rate was 29%. Kind of hard to believe that most of the schools “are under 15%”, unless a few of the schools are hovering at 40-50%, which I also doubt.

^ It is definitely harder to get into some schools like Tisch, Stern and CAS (there all sub 25% rd) but the low numbers might be a bit inflated like the 12% I mentioned above because a lot of people do try to transfer internally but they accept very few.

thanks giantmidget, I actually mailed them today and in their reply they informed me that they are really busy with the freshman admissions process and that albert would not be updated until… April!!! -.-

If you’re applying as an incoming junior, NO STANDARDIZED TEST SCORES are required, right? Just wanted to be sure, so it doesn’t delay my application.

Do you need to send a College Official Report and High school school report? The counselor at the high school I went to no longer works there anymore, so I wouldn’t have anyone else to ask to fill the form out for me. I’ve read that some students never sent them in, and sending official transcripts were good enough. I do plan on sending the College Official Report though.

Also, do they ask you to send in a mid-year report later? Or do you need to send it yourself once the semester ends at your school.

Thanks!
I’m applying to NYU–CAS
My midterm grades aren’t available yet, so I can’t send those in, but I assume they would ask, once you got accepted that is, to send in your grades for the semester?
I’m only sending in my HS Transcript, College Transcript, College Report, and 1 Teacher Recommendation. I’ve read on here that some students send in 2-3 recommendations. Would you advise doing that? I wonder if they would even read all of them.
