Official NYU 2012 Transfer Thread

Seriously, I wouldn’t even trust my school to send it themselves. lol I sent in 3 letters of rec 2 from professors, and one from where I volunteered. Also 2 instructor evaluations, each ranked me in the top 1% of their students.

Is there a required number of recommendations we were supposed to send? I only sent one because I thought that we were only supposed to send 1.

Do you guys think they check if you say you’re in phi theta kappa, or you think they just take your word for it?

Also, how big of a difference do you think being a member of phi theta kappa makes?

The requirement is only one, but they said that they will look at the additional ones, if you send them in.

I’m sure they do check your PTK status with your school’s chapter. My guess would be that it looks good that you decided to take a step further by joining, but they probably care mostly in order to see if you will get a ptk transfer scholarship or not.

Actually they only require one recommendation letter( together with an instructor’s evaluation). I sent in three( like some other guys on this forum). I think you need to send in the college report … I sent out everything in one big envelop because I’ve heard the NYU admission office is a mess… Hope this helps~~~Good luck!

@Loolala

I would think it’s too late to send in any more recommendations, as most professors require at least a 3-4 week notice.

What are my chances if I have a 4.0 college gpa, 3.4 HS gpa, 27 ACT, my college report and high school report had me in the top 5% of students, top student out of a 2k plus class year?? And if course all the extracurricular stuff.

@artis2011 Normally, I would say you have a great shot, but after reading through the 2011 forum, nobody can say for sure. There were several people rejected with a 4.0 college gpa. There were also several accepted with a 3.5-3.7 idk. To which school are you applying?

I applied to the college of arts and sciences; is that one easier to get into or something?

Also, if it says my application is downloaded does that mean that they (nyu) has it in their system? And what if your recommendations don’t make it by the April 1st deadline? Or is that for the application to be downloaded?

I applied to CAS too, for linguistics. Which major are you going for? CAS is said to be pretty competitive. I think some other ones, like Stern are more so. Yes, when it says downloaded, that means that they downloaded it from the common app site and they have it in their system. Your materials don’t have to be in on the 1st, but they should be postmarked by then. I don’t think that they put as much importance on that deadline as they do on having your app and supplement in by the 1st. Usually if you are missing something, they will let you know before they even look at your application; they will then give you an opportunity to send in the missing materials. Which would suggest that there is no rigid deadline for the submission of your materials, just for your app.

I applied for Econ, I hope I get in!!

Good luck to you

Anyone have an idea on a date? Because I’m leaving for the summer on May 5th, but I’m going to New York (for an internship), and I wanna know if I’ll know by then so that I’ll know if I should leave most of my stuff here in a storage unit or bring it to New York.

sorry bro, it says throughout the month of May, you can check with last years thread. Although maybe you can call around that time and say that you need to know because other colleges are waiting for you… that could speed things up a little bit.

Wait so a recommendation letter is required? I thought it said that it was optional? As of now I only have one instructor evaluation filled out (haven’t sent it in yet because I’m still trying to find a second one). Should I try and get a recommendation from someone other than an instructor?

[Transfer Applicants](<a href=“How to Apply”>How to Apply)

As you can see the instructors evaluation and the recommendation letter are pretty much the same. Do not forget to mail all your credentials before April 1st tho

@westeros The evaluation is optional, but the letter is required. You need only one though

Funny how this thread has so few participants, when last years transfer thread had thousands of responses. Perhaps there are fewer NYU applicants this year.
