***Official Princeton University Class of 2022 RD Applicant Thread***

I interviewed with Princeton person in December.

@MrElonMusk - Don’t kid yourself. Princeton is hard. My son’s high school course load was as rigorous as any I’ve ever heard of, including 7 AP’s in both junior and senior years. He graduated high school with an unweighted 4.0 and received something like seventeen 5’s and one 4 on his AP tests. He tells me that his work load at Princeton was significantly more difficult (and time consuming) than HS had been but, to be fair, he also took a very challenging course loan at Princeton, including several graduate level physics courses.

@sherpa
You are absolutely correct!!!

Interesting. My mom is class of '90, and just received a letter about my application. Do other colleges do this for legacies, or just Princeton?

@ski_racer did it have specifics? it could be something they do just for legacies.

@MaybeHarvard2022 It gave some interesting statistics and talked about how legacy applications are reviewed. According to them, the same as all the other ones, but the legacy admit rate is 30%, so idk how true that is. Additionally, there was an FAQ sheet with answers to questions specific to legacy parents. I’m pretty sure they do it for all legacy applicants, but I don’t know if Princeton is unique in this.

@ski_racer Dartmouth also does it.

@ski_racer UNC set similar letters as well.

@ski_racer just to confirm, Princeton sent an official email to your alumni Mom saying the legacy admit rate is 30%?

That’s odd, because all the recent data I have seen says it is closer to 15%…

For my son’s class (2020) it was 14.4%

[quote]
”Dean of Admission Janet Rapelye said that 14.4 percent of those accepting offers of admission are legacies, the highest since the Class of 2011’s 14.7 percent. Rapelye said the increase in legacy admissions was the result of “a larger group applying and a slightly higher yield,” and not a decision to alter the proportion of legacies, which was 12.6 percent a year ago. ”/quote

For class of 2021 it was 13%

[quote]
”13 percent of students in the class are children of Princeton alumni.”/quote

I wonder if alumni get access to a real admit rates, and all the publicly-stated legacy admit rates are false (perhaps to placate the masses?) :wink:

@psywar That’s the percent out of the total admitted student population. That doesn’t say what the admission rate is for legacy applicants. Depending on how many apply, the acceptance rate for legacies could be the 30% figure.

@psywar “Although the application process is the same for all candidates, over the past several years we have been admitting about 30 percent of the children of our graduates compared with our overall admit rate of about 6-7 percent.”

I think that’s pretty much what they’re doing, because 5x better chances as a legacy is crazy. Although you can’t use the percentage that makes up the class as the admission rate for legacies, because way less legacies apply.

I got a request to interview over the phone on Thursday or Friday… this late in the process, what does it mean? Or will it mean anything at all?

ok the admit rate for legacy is prob around 30%. A kid from my school got that letter as well. That 13% figure is the percent enrolled who are legacy. However some students who are admitted will choose another school

@frazzledazzle makes sense, thanks! Surprised legacies don’t commit at a higher percentage, I bet the parents are disappointed. :wink:

I just had my Princeton interview over the phone… she did not ask me if I had any questions, but overall it was great. I was nervous for nothing lol.

I brought my resume to my interviewer, who asked me to elaborate about everything I’d put on there. Even the awards. The interview lasted for about 1 hour and 20 minutes…oh boy.

I’ve had my interviews for every other school I applied to except Princeton. I assumed that they would contact me by email? I doubt that there are no alumni in the NorCal area… anyone else not have an interview yet?

@mrpotatoehead I just had my email two days ago after getting informed about it a week or so before that. I’d imagine that at this point they won’t be having more interviews, but they might be. It was actually the only school I got an interview at surprisingly

Regular Decision results will be posted on Wednesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. eastern time.

@Hephaestion Thank youuuu, where’d you here it?
