OFFICIAL Rutgers SPRING 2012 Transfer

Scienceguy1 you need at least calculus 1 in order to NOT take the placement test. At least that is the requirement for NJ community college students.

The class you will be placed into will depend on the result of your placement test. You might even be placed a class below pre-calculus.

That literally makes 0 sense lol. I’ve taken classes identical to what they offer that’s aggravating… Where is all of this info listed anyways?

Hmmmm “All newly admitted first-year students will take Rutgers University’s placement tests. Transfer students entering Rutgers without an equivalent English writing course or math course will also be required to take placement tests. The placement tests are designed to provide information about students’ individual skills in the English language and in mathematics. The test results will be used to place students in the courses and sections appropriate to their level of preparation. In some cases, those may be noncredit, developmental courses. Also, testing in a foreign language studied in high school is compulsory for students who will attend the School of Arts of Sciences in New Brunswick and for certain students who will attend colleges in Camden.”

Yeah I’m pretty sure I’m golden looking at brookdales classes they require that you have both trig and precalc completed which I do so yay.

Scienceguy1, I am just speaking from my brother’s experience. Rutgers did take his pre-calculus class but the admission people specifically told him that he needed calculus I in order to be exempt from the placement test.

When he received his transcript evaluation, he did NOT have calculus I completed. At the bottom of the evaluation, it says “placement test required”.

Then after the semester finished, he sent his updated transcript with calculus I completed. Then they sent him another transcript evaluation. This time it says “no placement test required”.

Also, you are transferring from an out of state community college. You have NO idea if Rutgers will take your courses or not. I agree that if a class is viewed as equivalent, it will transfer. However, you don’t know that until they do a transcript evaluation.

As far as for NJ community college students, we have NJ transfer.

Hey everyone, did anyone get into the Rutgers Business School Newark. I got in and I’m waiting for the registration date. I was exempt from all the placement testing but it did not show me the date for registration.

Hi,

SO can someone please confirm to me that the only way to register for classes (as a Spring 2012 transfer) is through Star Days? I’m just freaking out, I just want to make sure I do everything right!!!

Anyways - I’m going to CAS at Rutgers New Brunswick. I didn’t submit my SAT scores. I have a GPA of 3.738.

ANSWER MY QUESTION THOUGH, PUH-LEEZ!! THANKS

I’m looking to transfer to RU NB after my 1st semester at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Which of these credits do you think will transfer over? Also do you guys think it’s a good idea to transfer spring 2012 or just wait until fall 2012? Would it be a bit harder to make friends and get used to classes, etc?

General Chemistry I (w/ lab)
Math Analysis (not sure if this will count at pre-calc or calc)
Writing and Rhetoric I (hoping this will count as expos)
Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Introduction to Sociology

Also wondering if microbiology (w/ lab) will transfer…

Thanks so much!!!

Damn this thread kinda died out lol

I know. Has anyone heard anything from RU? Also did anybody finish taking care of the pre-entrance immunization requirements?

Yeah im going to Rutgers Newark Business school and my registration is in december. And i just sent them my pre-entrance immunizations records today.

Nice. Did you have to do those shots or you did them already ? I am an immigrant and I have lost all the proofs that I have taken those shots. Plus I don’t have health insurance so this is going to cost me some money…

Good luck in the b. school.

Oh damn bottle that is going to be super expensive how you tried taking a look at health department, for example mine does 10 dollar meningitis shots on Thursdays. I would call a general practitioners office and ask for some advice, they can test for resistances as well.

Damn that is going be really expensive like scienceguy said. I got all my shots when i had insurance which I dont anymore lol. But idk hopefully i dont need any more shots. But lets see what Rutgers says. And good luck to you as well!

anyone else freaking out about not being able to get classes? I have to some how get gen chem 1, gen bio 1, and calc 1, which is impossible for a first year at my CC let alone a university with 25k kids as a transfer student registering in January.

PS just checked webreg. All Calculus 1 and General Biology 1 are filled up completely. Gen bio does not allow special codes either. me=screwed. I just emailed them to see if there is anything I can do but seeing as its 5 days since registration opened I really doubt it and I’m willing to bet the chemistry 1 will filled up too.

nvm read that wrong every student should have registered by now.

hey scienceguy, i think there is a separate slot for transfer students…like even tho if the class says full…deres r still spots for transfers. im not sure if thats the same for rutgers NB.

Scienceguy1, don’t worry about not getting classes. Some teachers have to save up some spots for transfer students. I once emailed one of the advisors and he did tell me our first semester as transfer students will be hectic. We will get some of the classes we need but not all of them.

I once emailed the biology major advisor. I asked about registering classes as a transfer student as well as the size of the upper level classes like biochem, microbio, system physiology, etc.

this is what he said:

“A few instructors reserve a few spots for transfer students, however, I should warn you, that registration in your first semester will probably be challenging. When you come in for the orientation day, you will register for whatever open classes you find, and you will be placed on waitlists for other courses. Unfortunately, your schedule will not be set until the end of the add-drop period in the first weeks of the semester. On the one hand, this is frustrating for transfer students, but on the other, it is best that students not try to take too many major courses in their first semester because it is such a challenging transition for many. This brings me to your second question: class sizes in the courses you mentioned are generally quite large. I consider those the mid-level courses, and they are generally large lecture courses. However, every department offers a number of smaller courses each semester that are more like seminars taught by advanced faculty members to the advanced undergraduate students. These seminar-style courses are generally much smaller, around 30 students”.

Yeah I am going to be looking around for some cheap immunization shots lol. I was told mine would cost around 400 bucks in a doctor’s office. Do you know where I should be looking for these? my current CC perhaps?

Thanks

Wait, it says, Rutgers DO offer these shots. It should be cheaper there then right?
