Official SAT Subject Test - Math Level 2 - June 2015

@alpha525 oh lol i’m applying to caltech just for fun, but i need an 800 on this :stuck_out_tongue:

@michelle426 yes you do. or else you’re rejected for sure with a 790. haha I’m only joking

Wait, so what’s the answer to the sphere question? Why can’t the intersection be a sphere: if there’s a sphere with a tiny diameter within one with a larger diameter (think one sphere acts as a core for another if it helps!).

Also, 2 omit and possibly 4 wrong- is it possible to get an 800/if let’s say I get a 780-800, is it better to retake (keep the score) or cancel completely and just retake? No matter what, if it’s not an 800 (which it probably isn’t), I’m planning on retaking.

@drakonus with cross sections, you have to look one dimension below. point is 1D, circle is 2D, sphere is 3D and so it would be point and circle.

did ya’ll get 1004 or something?

@marie122 1001.

what do you guys think the projected cutoff will be? if it’s -7 does that mean a raw score of 43? and if i omitted 1 and got possibly 5 wrong could i still get an 800?

@drakonus A sphere is hollow by definition, so if the larger sphere completely surrounded the other, they would not be intersecting. So, it’s only a point and circle.

is raw score 43 usually an 800?

I’m pretty sure 42/50 can be 800

in rare cases

is it generally 43/50 or 44/50 for 800?

@rdeng2614 43 is the typical cutoff for an 800. That varies from test to test. 44 has a much higher chance of being an 800.

@doodlesack414 if you get 1 omit and 5 wrong (my situation at the moment) your raw score will be 44-5/4= 42.75~ 43. which has a chance of being an 800, depending on the test.

@drakonus i’m honestly expecting >750/760. I am retaking it in october (along with chem), but i’m not canceling this one, because it’s my “backup” score, on the off chance that october doesn’t pull through

Well if the two spheres are tangent to one another (point) then they wouldn’t be considered to be intersecting.

@Kylemcgrogen Not this again. Yes, yes, they are. Never in my life have I heard of a thing such as tangency is not intersection until now.

@michelle426 Problem with that is I really need a 790-800, otherwise it’s unacceptable (the school I go to has a really really high average, so yeah.) Anyways, 4 wrong and 2 omit- this makes my raw score a 45, right? Very risky.

Help: seeking advice from anybody. Is it better to cancel and retake, or keep and retake? What I think is that getting a <750, keeping it and retaking it shows improvement, but I probably got a 790 (but I want that 800!) so I’m going to retake anyways. Should I just cancel my 790 and aim for 800, or keep and retake anyways?
