@asmed7 - You definitely have a chance, but as you know admissions to top schools are always a gamble. Do you have any medical experience in US?
I will be going thru my schoolâs allied health program (i live in PA) where i shadow at a different hospital department every week @srk2017 also i hospital volunteer and am looking into getting EMT certified? but not sure on that yet
@asmed7 Congratulations on what you have done so far, you are a solid candidate for BS/MD. But there is always a an element of unknown involved. Hence suggest to apply to different top BS/MD programs and also good regular BS programs of your choice. Donât be hung up on just PLME per se. There are many wonderful programs. Also think about cost of different programs/colleges, depending on your personal family situation, it may or may be relevant. Recognize the reality (whether you like it or not), you are an Asian and hence expectations and restrictions are more (schools like Brown). GL
I have great medical related extracurriculars/awards/community service hours. But, Iâm a little considered whether my sat score 2240 (710 CR, 730 M, 800 W) is good enough for bs/md programs. Any thoughts? At this point, I can either take the new SAT or ACT and see how I do. Feedback appreciated!!
2240 may be too low for Northwest (or Brown), but others it should be fine.
@misophoniax, first off, you misused the word âconsidered.â I think you meant to say you were a little concerned. Therefore, make sure somebody proofreads your applications and essays. Check the 2015 and 2016 BS/MD results to see if others got in with similar stats: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/multiple-degree-programs/1857339-bs-md-results-for-class-of-2016-p1.html For example, @medp98 had a 2250, and was accepted into 4 BS/MD programs. Also, @eclucas98 had a 2260, and was accepted at Case Western Reserve PPSP. It is a highly competitive process. You need every edge you can get. If you could raise your score to the 2300 area that would make a big difference. There is another issue. Your 710 CR and 730 M score only add up to 1440 out of 1600. That is very low and has to be brought up. Some schools give much more weight to those two components. When my DD was applying to University of Oklahomaâs 8-year BS/MD Program, an admissions officer ONLY asked for the results on CR and Math. My DDâs 1600 score stood out!
@RayznHELL Yes, the considered/concerned thing was a typo, nothing more. Iâll take the ACT and see how I do. Thank you for your feedback.
@misophoniax, typo(s) are one or two wrong or transposed letters. You did not type incorrectly. When you make a mistake, admit it, learn from it, and move forward. Try to obfuscate like that in an interview and you will be looking into your Plan âBâ choices.
@RayznHELL You need to calm down, people are human and they will make mistakes. There is no need to get so upset over something so trivial. You are acting like a child.
@Undecided3494, was my feedback advice wrong? If you have some feedback to give @misophoniax go ahead. As for acting like a childâcall me Peter Pan.
Thank you for your word of caution.
No just ANY FeedbackâŠ
âCONSTRUCTIVEâ Feedback which adds value. Debating a âtypo vs semanticsâ etc on multiple interactions is simple useless.
Often the message is lost due to poor delivery.
My experience on College Confidential has always been pleasant and encouraging. This is downright rude and disrespectful. Youâve belittled my whole entire character based on a mistake (letâs say mistake to make you happy, huh?) when I created this post. I was not obfuscating when I admitted my âtypo.â I was merely admitting a fact. I donât know if you are aware, but this is an informal public forum. My posts do not have to be spot-on perfect. But, nonetheless, I do NOT need to justify myself to you. I came here for constructive criticism, and on some level, you did give me some. BUT, I only asked for feedback on the caliber of my score, not on anything else. Have a great day.
And on a side note, though SAT scores are very important, pertinent medical-related extracurriculars, shadowing, research, and community service play HUGE roles. These programs are asking for people who KNOW they want to be doctors. I could have a 2400 on the SAT, but there is a relatively low chance of me getting into a BS/MD program (especially the more competitive ones) if I donât show that I want to be a doctor.
So to get back on track, since clearly weâre getting WAY off tangent and harping on one typed word in a public forum, as if this is AP English, in an age where smartphones âautocorrectâ wrongly, @misophoniax, I agree with above â a 2240 (or a 1440 in the 1600 system), will probably rule you out for many of the competitive Bachelor/MD programs.
Thank you @Roentgen I have a feeling I can do much better on the ACT (based on my practice tests). Weâll see.
@misophoniax that was the case with me I had a 2250 on the SAT and a 1450. I took the ACT and got a 35 so the difference in score can be quite significant. Good luck!
