Where else were you accepted to: Indiana U- Bloomington, University of Vermont
Deferred: University of Michigan

wow, i don’t know if i would be admitted with the stats i got accepted with when i applied in 2004. congratulations all of you! truly an intelligent bunch.

while perusing i noticed some similarities…lots of you from new york and virginia, and lots of you that also applied to indiana u in bloomington. i’m from indiana and i’m always amazed at how many people from the east coast/out of state apply or decide to go to iu.

IU is a great school with a number of highly recognized programs. Foreign languages, music, sports medicine, and many others. I think even east coasters know that, lol. Also, while it is true Tulane is apparently getting even more selective, keep in mind CC is heavily skewed towards the higher achievers. We really see mostly the upper end on here.

I did not wish to make another thread for this simple question, so I thought posting it here would be most reasonable. I raised my ACT two points, which allows me to be Tulane’s middle %50 for ACT score, would sending in this score allow me to be accepted? Or must I send in midterm grades, recommendations, or call the campus itself? Tulane, is no longer really my top choice since its nothing I could afford, but I would like to receive the benefactor that I was accepted?

Of course that is up to you if you just want the (possible) acceptance for whatever reason, but really if you are sure you are not going you should withdraw your application. Why take a slot from another person just to satisfy your curiosity or ego? In any case, it is impossible to say if you will get in or not with your increased test score, and your school should be automatically sending in your first semester grades. You have to have recommendations if the app requires it. You cannot get in if your application is incomplete.

does anyone know when (or if they already have started) they send out RD letters to the deferred EA people? Gibson says “we will try to get you our decision in a few weeks but latest April 1” or something like that…it has said that for like a couple a weeks.
Do you think they will start sending soon or should I not get my hopes up?

@boredfun

As far as I know, there is no “typical” time period for which they will make a decision before the April 1st deadline. With that being said, a friend of mine who was deferred EA was accepted 2 weeks ago with a 15k scholarship.

Cheers

when are RD decisions starting to come out (or have they already)? i applied before november 15th with the personal application (but RD because I also applied SCEA somewhere), and I’m just wondering when I should expect a decision.

hey i got in! just checked. so i guess they are releasing the RD decisions.

My D got in yesterday. No details yet! She applied RD.

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2050 (didn’t send so no point in breaking down)
[] ACT: 34
[] SAT II: 760, 780, 790 (didn’t send either)
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): My school does out of 100 but I have around a 98.5 weighted which puts me in the top 2-3% at a pretty competitive school
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 2-3%
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): 5, 5, 5, 4, 4
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A

[] Job/Work Experience: Nothing paid
[] Volunteer/Community service: Just research over the summer but I don’t think it counts
[] Summer Activities: Research
[] Essays: I don’t remember… I think I copied and pasted my Common App for one and then BS’ed the Why Tulane
[] Teacher Recommendation: One was probably really great and the other was probably just okay but I wasn’t allowed to read either (waived my right)
[] Counselor Rec: Probably pretty good since I was one of the few “high-achieving” kids who spoke to him more than once a year
[] Additional Rec: None
[] Interview: N/A
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Nope

[] What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: Don’t really remember… honestly I knew if I applied to Tulane early enough it would pretty much be a safety knowing other people who got in from my area
[] Weaknesses: Don’t know… didn’t really have much to be strong or weak with on this app since I used the Personal Application so there wasn’t much too it
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: High scores?? Tulane always likes that in the early round lol
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Deferred Brown ED [/ul]

WITH 25K SCHOLARSHIP AND HONORS PROGRAM  I have my acceptance letter taped on my mirror to make me feel happy in the morning lol. I know I said before that it was pretty much a safety but just being accepted somewhere that I am actually considering going to makes me feel really good. Since it’s my only acceptance so far I’ve spent a lot of time looking into it, especially since I have no other sure-things yet.

LOL. I didn’t realize your income was that high until now. You won’t qualify for any need based aid unless there are very unusual circumstances., onebluegoldfish. There are EFC calculators online. You might want to use one to prove it to yourself.

to fallenchemist: i think my parents were thinking that because they are near retirement (they’re both 60) my father is basically unemployed (works as a substitute) and because my sister has a genetic illness (cystic fibrosis; as a result she is frequently hospitalized and may require a very costly lung transplant within the next couple of years) they might qualify. thanks for pointing that out, though.

Well, those certainly qualify as unusual circumstances, and I wish you the best of luck. Just so you know, they will use the income from 2010 to calculate everything, plus assets. So even if your father is part time and his income is way down, if your family showed an income of $250,000+ in 2010, which it sounds like they did, all the other circumstances which haven’t actually happened yet probably won’t matter. If those eventualities occur in a year or two, then you will show very different financials and presumably your aid would change. That is the big difference between merit and need-based, the former is fixed for the entire 4 years while the latter is reevaluated every year.

thanks for explaining. that makes sense, fallenchemist. i guess we will see what transpires in march!
