Official UChicago 2012 Transfer thread

Last year’s acceptance rate was 4.87% for transfers. I can’t see it decreasing much past that.

It could decrease if there’s even fewer open spots for transfer students. :’(

i hate to use stanford as another example, since obviously the school’s operate differently–but as a general principle, having an already extremely low acceptance rate does not mean that it cannot go lower. stanford went from 10% gradually down to below 2% over the years. it’s a possibility.

I called Uchicago again, and they told me that although they had many more freshman accept their offers than expected, they will still be admitting the same number of transfer applicants as they usually do. So the number they admit won’t go down, but depending on how many transfers applied the percentage may.

it seems that uchicago is having difficulties this year. they said early may and they’re early in announcing freshman admission results. I aaaaaaaaaaammmmm neeeeervous. how many people are usually admitted?

I just called - decisions will be out this afternoon! Ah so much anxiety

Abigail22, will you go to Brown or U of Chicago?

@danielise did they say if it would be email or USPS?

This afternoon!? Are you SURE!? Oh my goodness!

Oh my goodness, the anxiety!
I don’t expect to get in, since my school doesn’t put grades-in-progress on transcripts, so all they have is a terrible representation of me. I also chose the ‘write your own’ essay prompt, so let’s see if that’s a risk that pays off!

Well we’ll find out for sure in a few hours. This is how the conversation went (approximately 11:30 EST):

“University of Chicago Admissions”
“Hi, I was wondering if there’s a projected date for transfer decisions to be available?”
“Yes, I think we have that information. Let me just double-check.”
“Okay, thanks.”
“They’ll actually come out in the afternoon today.”
“Oh, okay, awesome.”
“It’ll probably be around 3 pm, but I’m not positive.”
“Thank you so much.”
“No problem, bye.”

It’s e-mail.

I’m so nervous. AHHH. Gotta find something to do for the next 3-5 hours.

There go my plans to actually get work done today D:
…/stares at clock

Ahhh today is one of the most stressful days of my life so far! I’m being doubly judged by two of the country’s best universities all within one afternoon… Of course UChicago is releasing decisions on the same afternoon of the final for the pre-med bio course I’m taking at Harvard D:
Excuse me while my sympathetic nervous system causes me to implode… :’(

@norcaltransfer, probably uchicago, also because i got into brown for spring.
However my dream of dream school is columbia, it has been for 3 years now.
THIS AFTERNOON?? WITHOUT NOTICE?? SO ABRUPT…thanks CC for giving me a heads up

anyone heard anything? it’s 3 now, yea?

Must come out within the hour

I just called again. They said by end of business day. So 5 pm central time, 6 est. 1.5 more hours at most.

^ Thanks for calling
