Official UCSB 2014 Transfer Thread

@ern1523
From whatI’ve heard, it’s both math requirements to transfer and pre-req (which is 1 math for me as Socio major, Stat227).

I think that since you only had 1 math class to take, and since they require at least one math class as part of the IGETC, that is why they rejected you. Nonetheless, I have my fingers crossed.

@matt4200 Congrats! I’m also a Soc major and I was wondering if you completed all pre-major classes. I am missing one history class for my major, but have completed my ITGEC.

I need to ask this: where is it saying math needs to be completed by fall 2013? It does not say that on their website and my daughter has UCSB as her TAG and is taking statistics this spring.

@lindyk8

It is one of the TAG requirements, and they highly recommend it for general admission. I was planning on taking statistics this semester too until one of the UCSB transfer representatives came to my school and explained to me that the minimum general ed English and Math classes had to be completed by the fall of 2013 for fall 2014 admission, and if you don’t you basically have no chance of getting in. I had to scramble to find an accelerated math class at a different CC. He claimed that the reason for this was that they don’t want to accept people only to later take away their admission if they fail the class. Which doesn’t make any sense to me because if you fail any classes your admission will be revoked.

So if you have any of the minimum required math or English classes in progress expect to get denied. It’s stupid, i know. It’s presented very vaguely and many students get strewed on this every year. They need to do a better job of informing future applicants. You can try to appeal after you pass the class. I know some students who have had success in doing so in previous years.

Accepted!

Major: Econ and Accounting
GPA: 3.47
TAG: YES
I’m taking my last 2 major pre-reqs this semester (Spring 2014)

Are they sending out decisions every hour? Or is it only at 3pm everyday?

I’m still waiting ughhh this is hella stressful.

To those that were admitted today, can you please share your stats?

Admitted for English
GPA: 3.72
MAJOR GPA: 4.0
IGETC: done by end of spring
ECs: Phi Theta Kappa, Honors Program, Work at Law Firm

Accepted

UC GPA: 3.64
Major Pre-reqs: Missing 1 after Spring 2014
Intended Major: Political Science
TAG?: No
IGETC?: Yes

Extracurriculars (clubs, leadership, volunteer, work): Phi Theta Kappa, Work, Two Organizations where I mentor youth that have been incarcerated.
Additional Details: Poor start to my college career, but was over two years ago and received Academic Renewal
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
State (if domestic applicant): CA

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected (strengths/weaknesses): I have a very interesting story that I communicated excellently through my personal statements. Also I made an incredible comeback from my very low GPA when I started college over two years ago. I have nearly a 4.0 in my last 44 units of college which were done in the last year. Excited! This is awesome.
