@AMS9898 are you 4.6/6 or out of 5?
**4.6/4 my bad
Anyone know how many EA apps were rec’d and about how many deferred? Just curious if the NCAA Hoops, Bloomberg Ranking, #50 Overall Ranking, actually skyrocketed apps…as predicted.
I think the EA stats will come out in late January like in previous years. I expected admissions to be tougher just like it does every year, but I don’t believe in the hype due to NCAA and Bloomsburg rankings. No offense, but USNews is the ranking that most people care about. I don’t trust any undergrad business rankings where Penn isn’t number 1, let alone outside of the top 10. And anyone that loved Nova for basketball would’ve been interested in applying before the championship anyways. They are consistently a strong basketball team. Its not like they win the championship and thousands of random people that have never watched basketball will want to apply to go to that school.
Actually there were over 11,000 applicants this year and about 10% were accepted. That comes from a family friend that works at Villanova. So looks like those things did really make a difference. That also means that Penn had a higher acceptance rate, as well as any other ivy. Villanova also had more applicants than any ivy.
@rachb99 I do not believe those numbers at all. I am pretty sure that is not taking yield into account for that acceptance rate either. Look at the link below for last year’s admissions stats. They had 17,000 applicants for 1670 spots, which seems like a 10% acceptance rate too, but if the yield is 25%, then that means the acceptance rate was around 40% last year which makes sense. Also, the article said that they had 7000 RD apps to review, so that means 10,000 apps were EA, so even if it is 11,000 apps this year, that is not a huge increase.

I am not hating on Nova or anything. Just because I said Penn Wharton undergrad is the best does not mean Villanova is not a solid b school either. I actually applied(and admitted EA) and loved it on my visit. I may even attend depending on how the financials work out. I just don’t believe in the hype that CC is causing from one ranking system and a championship win. I’m sure the acceptance rate is lower, maybe into the 30s, but definitely not 10%.
I got in for VSB, which is supposed to be the hardest school to get into, along with the honors program. I highly doubt I would’ve gotten into Villanova if the acceptance rate was 10%, let alone the honors program.
Well I definitely trust where the data is coming from to support my point so we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.
We’ll find out soon anyways. Last year’s admissions stats were posted in late January. I am interested to see the results.
@dpfls5130 Deferred.
I am willing to bet a small fortune that being number 1 in basketball hugely increased applications. There are so many examples of success in athletics rubbing off on the schools. First we have the Ivy League which rode athletics to great stature and then decided to cut back. More modern example include TCU. After its football program received national attention applications went way up! Alabama has seen large rises in applications.
Mostly not for the good, but people enjoy name recognition. This certainly applies to one of the biggest purchases a person makes.
People also enjoy being associated with winners. Villanova now has both. And to Nova’s credit most (perhaps all) of its basketball players were legitimate students.
I agree that apps were likely up for those reasons and may stay there. Villanova is a great school and might be more well known now nationally…it had been more regionally recognized in the past. And their business school has such a great rep in Phlly and NYC…it’s not Wharton but honestly, I think that’s why it did well in the Bloomberg Business week rankings because employers were more involved in evaluating the schools. The Nova grads are team players and willing to work hard and have great attitudes. I heard that first hand from a JP Morgan recruiter. Wharton probably has the highest salaries and their grads are brilliant I’m sure, but Nova has it’s own deserving reasons for being on top of the Businessweek rankings. In the end, it’s all subjective anyway.
So um when do we get merit money???
Villanova scholarship interview requests are going out.
Does that include the Presidential Scholarship?
I got the Villanova scholarship interview letter. Will an alum contact us by email? Because I have not gotten that yet. Nothing from the presidential scholarship yet, though I thought that finalists for that were released late January in previous years.
I haven’t gotten an email about the Villanova scholarship email yet, but I got the letter in the mail about two weeks ago. Anyone else?
@doglover1234 Same. I live in PA and was expecting an email by now. I think it’s been about two weeks since I got the letter.
@doglover1234 I’m in the same boat as you. The letter said we would be contacted by Jan 31st, so we still have some time.
Has anyone that’s been deferred sent a letter of continued interest? If so, did you get a response?
@c011e9e - Yes, I sent one on Thursday last week and received a reply within half an hour.
