Reading through these, I am absolutely baffled… I really wonder what Yale saw in me to defer me because there are some rejected people who I basically drool over… Bah.

[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied:Because Yale SCEA is extremely competitive, and I’m too much of a typical white, Connecticut girl.
[/ul]General Comments: I was expecting this. Much love to everyone, and know that this decision says nothing about your worth. For the rejected: it’s Yale’s loss! To the accepted: congratulations, if you’ve learned anything from this thread it should be that you are AMAZING to have gotten in. And to those of us deferred, we will have MANY amazing options come April…and Yale still might be one of them :)

My earlier post #190 had two double counted “accepts”, so a corrected and updated tally is

Accept 50 (33.3%)
Defer 91 (60.6%)
Reject 9 (6%)

I’m happy for those who were accepted, and even for those who were at least deferred.

I’m reading this thread in anguish at the fact that when the RD round comes around, my fate will probably be sealed as one who was flat out denied admission to my #1 school (by far).

To those who were deferred, good luck in the RD round! You’ll probably get in.

In case anyone hasn’t seen -

Official stats from the Yale website:

Total number of applicants 5257
Number admitted 761
Number deferred 2952
Number denied 1497

ps, I was deferred.

It’s ridiculous how many applicants were deferred. And among them are applicants like Silverturtle… I don’t stand much chance in the RD round. I’ll just think of myself as rejected until March 30th

Congrats@!
What is “le Grand Concours”??
Thanks

Anyone know what percentage of accepted were LEGACIES and ATHLETIC RECRUITS, both of which MUST apply SCEAC to activate these HOOKS?
Also, wonder how many LEGACIES and ATHLETIC RECRUITS were in rejected and deferred piles.
I also assume that admissions office is searching for diversity candidates in this round as well.
That does not leave very many spots for the regular applicants IMO.

I have pledged to report my decision and I did. I will leave the Yale forum until March…

@performersmom, Le Grand Concours is the National French Contest. It’s administered by the American Association of Teachers of French.

[Financial aid budget to increase by 8 percent | Yale Daily News](http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2010/dec/16/financial-aid-budget-increase-8-percent/)

My guess is that is a hard statistic to find–
It would be like asking “how many of the applicants come from top prep feeder schools” … and equally hard to define as what is a “regular” applicant.

I have never heard that Yale legacies must apply EA to trigger an advantage (it certainly isn’t a hook). UPenn states that explicitly, but Yale never has.

It’s different for Penn because they have early decision, which is binding. Therefore, by applying early as a legacy applicant, they know you actually really want to go there instead of just using legacy as a boost in RD or something.

Also, Yale has been known to defer a lot … I have heard they defer people knowing they will probably get in RD and that they defer people who they know have no shot but are just trying to be nice …

Also, Yale can’t have Tuft’s Syndrome. Yale wins cross-admits from every school by a significant margin (the closest is 60% Yale, 40% Stanford) other than Harvard, from which they still steal 35% (at least according to the old chart, the numbers are probably still similar).

I’m sorry this is late. I waited until my final exams were finished. Good thing I did. I’ll edit this later to post my stats.
