[] Essays: pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. One about one night in Russia that I sat up waiting for my host-mother to come home. Basically I used a billion details to make the most boring moment of an interesting situation epic. Including drunks singing lady gaga. It happened. Oh and my supplement essay was basically a rant about how much I love words and grammar.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: SAT2’s?
[] Weaknesses: Being Asian, complete lack of EC’s, mediocre to below average essays, horrible gpa in 9th and 10th grade. Overall not even close to Yale’s standards.
[/ul]General Comments: This was 100% expected but I guess a small part of me was looking for a miracle when I clicked the link. It seems that Yale deferred too many applicants and denied so few, and I’m not expecting to get in during the RD round. Was shocked to see Silverturtle deferred but he’ll probably get in RD. Gotta start my RD essays… Didn’t work on ANYTHING yet. planning on writing one college essay each day during the winter break. Oh well…

Decision: Deferred

[] Volunteer/Community service: Teaching underpriveledged kids (11, 12)
[] Summer Activities: TT Coaching camp, intensive training in TT, studying
[] Essays: Okay, so I had thought my essays were pathetic! My CommonApp was 1000+ words much above Yale’s limit and my supplement was 497. My supp was decent: nothing great/ awesome imo, but my CommonApp when I looked at it after submission seemed to just ramble on and on without direction. I’m surprised they actually chose yto defer me after looking at that pathetic piece of work.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Very Good!
[] Counselor Rec: Generic.
[] Additional Rec: From Coach-- Mindblowing! I think this is a huge in my getting in.
[] Interview: None.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yeah, qualified for full aid by large margin.

[] School Type: Public, but I ticked Private by mistake, so I dunno
[] Ethnicity: Asian (Indian)
[] Gender: Female
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None I think.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Table tennis, Bharatanatyam…maybe okay commonapp and supp essay…
[] Weaknesses: Test (Reasoning) scores-- I can remedy that now whith Dec scores which should be cool, Common App essay( I think this caught their attention for being different yet not well executed. Maybe I was still able to convey what I wanted them to know but I could have done it in a much better way. So, CA= bad. It had a very different story nonetheless.)
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I have absolutely no clue! After that essay of mine I was expecting outright rejection.[/li][/ul]General Comments: It’s a nice surprise  Congo to those who got in!

Decision: Rejected

[] Teacher Recommendation: One was definitely glowing. Idk about other. It was submitted 2 weeks after Nov 1
[] Counselor Rec: Idk, he’s kind of a jerk.
[] Interview: Alright. Not great. Basically a 3-D, interactive version of my paper application.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: yes
[] Intended Major: international relations
[] State (if domestic applicant): va
[] School Type: public, low-income, not competitive. no student has been accepted at an ivy in 12 years.
[] Ethnicity: hispanic
[] Gender: female
[] Income Bracket: <100k
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: essays really reflected my personality. have a lot of extracurricular and leadership experience. URM.
[] Weaknesses: pretty much everything else. GPA is not that high, nor SAT scores. my school is not that competitive. no major awards at all.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Yale’s admissions committee attempts to give final decisions to as many students as possible so that they will be able to work with their guidance counselors and families to focus full attention on other applications?
[/ul]General Comments:
I didn’t think I would be this disappointed, considering my application was a longshot in the first place. But just seeing all of the deferrals makes me feel like crap. I regret so many things from high school and I think if I had started trying earlier, I could have made it.

I didn’t apply SCEA, but one of my best friends was just rejected. I’m so surprised - I didn’t expect her to be accepted, but she was flat out rejected with great grades, 2350 SAT, etc. This is a rough cycle. :(

Decision: Deferred

Objective:[ul]
[] ACT: 33
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.00/ Weighted: I need to calculate it, but something like 4.3
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/ ~400
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): US History (4), as my school only offers one AP junior year.
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Physics, AP English, AP US Gov./ Pol., Legal Issues, AP Calculus AB (online course), AP Chemistry (online course). (I’ve taken ALL the possible core courses at my school, so I was left with Food and Nutrition and Theatre 1 to fill my other spots.)
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): None.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): The usual gamut of honor societies, Mu Alpha Theta (VP), Scholar Bowl (Founder), Science Club (VP), FBLA (VP), Creative Writing Club (Treasurer), Scholar Bowl (Founder), school ambassador, several others I’m sure I’ve forgotten to list.
[] Job/Work Experience: Working for my parent’s lawn care service.
[] Volunteer/Community service: A ridiculous amount at my church, the usual that comes with being in Key Club/ service clubs, founded an arts and crafts program at a local school for the mentally impaired, lots of free tutoring, various others.
[] Summer Activities: Classes at a local community college (10), summer honors program with classes at a local university (11), laziness (9).
[] Essays: Common App. was mediocre, I loved my Yale essay.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Sparkling, saw both.
[] Counselor Rec: Not sure, but students never get to know the counselor. So it was probably very generic, but well intended. This is her first year at my school.
[] Interview: Sadly, no.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
[] Intended Major: Chemistry
[] State (if domestic applicant): Alabama
[] School Type: Public, size ~1600
