[] Essays: I loved my Common App one (so funny and showed my personality so well!) but I half-assed my Yale essay since I was running out of time and didn’t really think that I would get into Yale anyways. It was pretty, but wasn’t specific and didn’t really show my personality.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Whiteness (see above), girl going for engineering?
[] Weaknesses: No instrument, didn’t do Science Olympiad, Masterminds, Student Government, not much leadership, didn’t really talk much in class, not enough humanities courses (wow, I am such a Negative Nancy)
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Girl who wants to do engineering, pretty good grades and scores for a blonde girl
[/ul]General Comments: This wait is going to kill me, but my sincere congratulations to all who got in! To those who were rejected: at least you don’t have to wait another four months to learn your decision!

Decision: Deferred

Decision: Deferred

It seems Yale was a little trigger happy with the deferral button this year.

^they are every year

Decision: Accepted

Objective:

 • SAT I (breakdown): 800 CR, 700M, 790W (2290)

 • Essays: Everything was over the word limit, wrote my Yale supplement about roller skiing, tried to play up Alaska-ness in short takes
 • Teacher Recommendation: Didn’t see, apparently pretty good
 • Counselor Rec: Very good, saw the National Merit version
 • Additional Rec:N/A
 • Interview: OK, thought I came off as a little too stereotypical, was basically a review of my ECs.

Other

 • Applied for Financial Aid?: No
 • Intended Major: Ethics, Politics, & Economics
 • State (if domestic applicant): Alaska
 • School Type: Public, big
 • Ethnicity: White
 • Gender: Male
 • Income Bracket: High
 • Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

Reflection

 • Strengths: ECs, geography, SAT IIs
 • Weaknesses: GPA, rank, background
 • Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: My ECs were, I suppose, unique enough to get me to stand out in the Alaska pool, which seemed pretty small this year. I imagine that it was geography, though, which made the difference between an acceptance and deferral.

General Comments:
I’m thrilled, but I’ve yet to set foot in New Haven. On paper, Yale is my first choice, though I’ll be at Bulldog Days in order to actually make sure. I’ll probably still apply to Dartmouth, but think that I’m most likely a Yalie.

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! Yale is a fantastic school and I hope you all come. And to deferred folks who truly love Yale, I was one of you, and I was accepted RD. There is hope!

Accepted!!! So happy!!

[/ul]General Comments: This stings, but a lot less than I thought it would.
