We are leaving California tomorrow at 6:30 a.m. with a stop in Denver. We arrive at Midway at 1:30 p.m. Being from California, I have no idea what would cause cancelled flights. Will 4 to 6 inches of snow do that? Luckily, my D’s first audition isn’t until Sunday night. I, too, built in this extra time just for this scenario!

I just got the call that our flight was cancelled. UGH!!! First the flight out of Dallas in November and now this. Before November this had never happened to me before!

Oh no GSOMTMom!!! Was it a direct flight?

Sorry GSOTmom. Keep us posted. Hope it works out. We fly Sunday; first audition Monday.

It was a direct flight early morning. UPDATE: I called and was able to book an afternoon flight. Every morning flight out of Raleigh was cancelled. The later flight arrives in Chicago at 5:25 well after the snow should be over. And because North Carolina is the forgotten state of air travel, there were no more non stops for the day. Really? Only ONE non stop a day, Raleigh Durham International?? I had my choice of flying through either Baltimore or Tampa (Tampa??). Baltimore for a thousand, Alex! As long as we get there on Saturday, I don’t care. With the later flight, I now don’t have to worry about where to store our luggage getting to the hotel before 10am AND I don’t have to wake up at O’dark thirty on a Saturday morning! Always a silver lining!

Yay GSMOMTMom! Husband and son’s flight arrives on Saturday at 5:15 PM after a connection in Philadelphia I figure if they can get to Philadelphia, they will be in much better shape to re-book if there is a cancellation. Portland had very few choices (though I know I flew directly to Chicago five or six years ago). Fingers and toes crossed for everyone that they arrive without too much hassle.

It is 5:00 in Chicago and the snow has not started yet- although the newscasters are being quite “Dramatic” about it! The good news is- we are used to this in Chicago. O’hare and Midway deal with this every year- perhaps not as often as this year, but… they are well prepared. Keeping fingers crossed that everyones travel plans are not too stressful. BAL to all! The generosity and honesty shared here has truly been inspirational. May each of our children find their bliss! I will update if weather conditions change.

Our Southwest flight out of Jackson to Chicago was cancelled. No flights out tomorrow to Chicago. We were able to reschedule for Sunday. I have no idea what to do if that one gets cancelled

I’m sorry, princessjpmom. We’re flying Southwest too. This stinks and I can’t believe it wasn’t even snowing by.8pm!!

I am so sorry everyone is having their travel plans upended! I am about to check on my flight (Sunday) hopefully there will be no issues with it.

Oh good grief!! I am thinking of all of you with flight issues. We arrived in Chicago late Thursday from Phoenix to give us a day of ‘buffer’ for tomorrow’s (SAT) auditions (Roosevelt on-campus and Emerson at the Palmer). Got an email from Emerson that says they are here but not to fret if you are delayed getting here – they will try to fit you in later in the week. I’m sure all the schools will do likewise (if they get here!) I’m not quite sure what we’ll do if we are here and the school reps don’t make it… UGH what a mess. Hang in there, Chicago Unifieds people.

You should be good to go, frazzled. Saturday seems to be the problem.

D lives in Chicago and attends grad school and has been surviving temps of -40 on the L platforms this winter.
Cook County is under a Winter Storm Warning from 9PMCST Friday night until 6PM CST Saturday. “Heavy snow possible during mid to late morning on Saturday, ending by early evening. Snow totals= 6-10 inches and ice accumulations of up to 1/2 inch”. South of Chicago it is supposed to be worse and they are saying that travel at Midway and O’Hare could be “significantly impacted”.
As I type this, my local weatherman- NE Ohio- is saying exactly the same thing while pointing to Chicago and Michigan. It’s snowing in Chicago right now, so safe travels to all and the best of luck!

My husband and son’s flight out of Philadelphia to Chicago, leave this afternoon at 3:59 arrive 5:20 has not yet been cancelled. They are flying out of Portland, ME around 1:00 and should not have a problem getting to Phil. as long as their plane makes it to our airport first.

We’re near the airport now. So far no calls or texts from the airline. Hopefully, no messages when we get to Baltimore.

Son and dad about to board plane to Philadelphia and a boarding reminder just arrived via e-mail for their flight from Phil. to Chicago, so I’m taking that as a good sign. Hope your trip is a smooth one GSOMTMom!!

Good luck to everyone traveling

We made it to Baltimore. It looks like all systems go for Chicago! WOOHOO!

I hope to see you there GSOMTMom!

Indeed, frazzled!! We’re here!!! The hotel is insanely busy/crazy! There is a huge private formal event for teens and who knows what else. The lobby is mega crowded.
