yeah i have this friend who luckily got into UCI OOS with 0 EC, yes 0 EC!! Crappy essay(one of the worst i've read..seriously), and like 4.2 UC GPA, with 1700 SAT.
i guess UCI really cares about GPA o.o
after congratulating him on his acceptance, i was told "UCI is my safety; i wanna go to berkeley"

!@#%$#$^??!!
what the heck?! berkeley?? expect an auto rejection bro
this type of people just ****es me off, seriously. even i wouldn't call UCI a complete safety, though i have a way stronger app...
geez...

anyone else who feels the way i do?
just wanted to vent,heh!
[i realized i should've put a quotation mark on the title..sorry]

when he gets rejected from merced and riverside, we will have the last laugh. wow, SAT doesnt matter much, but i guarantee that someone who scores 1700 will fail every class they ever take at UCI

Really now? An 1800 is basically getting 600 for all 3 sections. A 1700 is like 550, 550, 600.
Now obviously, there are other distributions, but the difference between a 550 and a 600 is not that much. Probably a few questions at the most.

You have to understand how statistics works before you start speaking. In the upper echelons of SAT scores, such as 760-800, getting ONE problem wrong will drop you by a large amount of points. However, the curves work in such a way that if you are in the mid range, losing one or two more points does not affect your score as much. So youll miss a ton of questions, but your score wont drop as much as it did with the first few questions you got wrong
Don’t believe, me? Go look at any score distribution on practice exams. There is a VERY large difference between 1700-1800. As for anyone with that low of a score, I guarantee they will not do well at UCI.

^I’ve taken the SAT before.
You guarantee that anyone with a 1700 will not do well at UCI? What about those who do very well on the SAT Subject Tests and AP tests, but not so well on the reasoning, because they aren’t accustomed to the reasoning’s test structure? The reasoning isn’t as good an indicator of academic ability as subject and ap tests are.

It’s the SAT. It has nothing to do with how well you’ll do in school. Idiots with 2.0’s sometimes end up with excellent SAT scores. And at the same time, there are students with 4.0+ GPAs with SAT scores of 1500.

You people on this website need to chill out… My friend got in to berkeley last year with a 4.0 UC and 1700 SAT. Its all about the essay. Also there is so much stat inflation on this website its crazy

This once again goes to show the extent to which UCs value GPA (their own proprietary version known as UC GPA). If you have 4.1 GPA, you can pretty much guarantee you will be forgiven a lousy SAT. If you are ELC, you are in irrespective of SAT or essays.

I knew someone with a 1650 who got into Davis, but I think she was ELC. This is the first I’ve heard of someone with less than 1800 getting into UCI but I guess anything’s possible as long as you have the right GPA and classes and they make up for it.
