Drinking is no more "Harry high school" than sitting atop your pedestal and raining your criticism down upon us mere mortals.

Well, back at you, Harry.^ Oops-- I mean carey. :)

Calm down, now. No need to get your knickers in a twist. I'm actually sitting in a really comfortable couch right now (no pedestal, which would seem really uncomfortable to me, but--you know--that's probably just me-- being naive). Just sitting here waiting for the debate to start. (You do know there's a presidential election going on, don't you?) :)

Aw, shucks. (All true, of course-- except you left out the beauty part.)

Hey-- do you think we should start our own thread, acarey? I gather you're not applying to UNC and have zero connection to the school, so I can only gather you keep coming back to this forum solely for my benefit. You know I am flattered, but still . . .

In my econ class, someone was talking too much so my friend turned around and said "STOOFOO, BJ" loudly. The whole class cracked up, and the moment lives in infamy among many of us.

yea so,

STOOFOO, BJ

On a more serious note, chillaaaaxminaaate yO

I have no connection to the school...just as you have no connection to the subject of this thread? Eh?

And for the record, I did apply. I wouldn't venture into this forum, let alone this thread, if I hadn't...as if I care about the social scene at a school I didn't apply to? Come on, if you're going to make assumptions, at least make ones that are logical.

Oh, I'm so sorry acarey. I looked at all your past posts--yep--each and every one, and I didn't see one that mentions UNC as a school where you have any interest, nor one where you applied. In fact, I never saw UNC mentioned in any context. Interesting. And here I thought you were just a troll. Silly me. So . . . were you accepted?

I sent in my application yesterday, so I don't know yet. I'll find out in March. And you?

I applied to nearly 20 schools, by the way, so the ones you have seen me discuss don't even cover half of my list. Thanks for the concern, however.

last time i checked these were threads related to college help?
i think i may have stumbled upon a WWE Smackdown website...
can anyone help me out?

Nightlife at UNC is fabulous. It's definitely a work-hard-play-hard type of atmosphere if you want to party, but you don't have to drink to have a good time. I drink pretty frequently (3ish nights a week, generally), but none of my suitemates or my roommate really do, and they have just as much fun as I do.

You have the option of clubs or under-21 bars on Franklin Street to do some dancing/mingling (I don't really like clubs because they're glorified meat markets, but to each his own), frat parties (which are best at the beginning of the semester during recruitment because they're totally open then; after a few weeks the parties close and you either need to know someone or be female to get in, which I am, but I usually hang out with guys who can't get into the parties, too...plus, I don't care enough to make much effort to get warm beer and avoid collar-popping frat guys hitting on me), dorm parties, or off-campus apartment/house parties.

Alcohol is extremely commonplace, but I know plenty of people who don't drink. I also know a number of people who smoke marijuana on a regular basis, but this frequency is probably just due to the circles I run in. Many of my friends smoke but I don't think as many people do overall. Harder drugs are farrrr less common, but you can get them if you so desire, not that they're a good idea at all.

This post may make UNC seem more party-focused than it is. I'd really like to stress that not only can you have fun going out at night, there are also tons of culturally enriching performances of which to take advantage, free movies at the Union every Friday and Saturday night, dinners on Franklin and independent movies at the Varsity, contra dancing every month in Carrboro, seeing concerts at the Cat's Cradle or the ArtsCenter, and approximately 485957947921 other things that do not involve the usage of any recreational illicit substances.

Feel free to message me or post any questions (and yeah, I can certainly tell you about academia as well haha) :)

although you may not realize, it IS possible to balance a party-type social life with a decent GPA. many students take awhile to find their correct balance, but some students, like me, were non-drinkers throughout high school and want to get out and enjoy "the other side". no hard feelings. janieblue, i would have agreed with you in 8th or 9th grade, but my opinions change as i mature, and now i realize that i am going to party SOME in college. its just a personal choice

Hey lulumobile-- Nothing like dredging up a thread from a month ago. Good luck with your acceptances come spring, and you absolutely should party hard-- wherever you get accepted and wherever you decide to attend. :)

oh sorry i wasnt trying to sound arrogant, but now that i reread that comment i should have reworded that. didnt mean to be insulting...but thank you so much

You people who think that you will flunk out if you drink need to relax. most people drink and somehow they still manage to get good grades. grow up.

ps janie you have no idea what you are talking about.

Coming from a school that's practically UNC's feeder school, my friends with sibs there say it's incredibly party-conducive. There's a wall on the edge of campus, and as long as kids stay behind that with their drinking, the police don't bother them.

Most of my friends who went to UNC last year only woke up in there own beds 10% of the time(ie. woke up in other peoples beds, bathrooms, fields, and other unusual places to wake up to). I hate them because they still have good grades(3.9;3.6;3.3 and 3.5) Basically what I am trying to say is that UNC is a party school.
