Penn App. - Q & A!

Feb 10th Profile RD. =)

now i know. is that the same for most schools?

:)
:(
;)
:p
:D

Okay just to clarify before I freak out...

The Financial Form from the UPenn app is due with the rest of the app?
The CSS Profile is due February 10th?
FAFSA isn't due yet?

yes, the Financial Aid Form's due with the rest of the app.
yes, FAFSA isn't due yet. (it's due before April 15)

The app checklist says the CSS Profile is due Feb 15th.
(were you thinking of the deadline for Cornell, newyorker? ;))

Whoah. All these deadlines got me mixed up.

Now how is god's name do you exactly know Cornell's deadline? LOL

Yo this apps process is so crazy--like I know so much about these schools/apps that if you were to give me an essay prompt from a school I didn't apply to--I could prolly tell you what school it is from.

You sound like one of my friends... she knows practically everything college-related (advice + deadlines + everything in-between).

I only knew the CSS deadline for Cornell because (a) I'm applying there and (b) I made one giant checklist for the places I'm applying to. :D;;

im sorry, whats ED and RD?

early decision and regular decision

If an ED applicant was never contacted through Penn for an interview, is that my fault or theirs? (Interview is required for nursing)

I never took an interview, because I was just waiting for an alumna to spontaneously call me up with a "can you meet me in 30 minutes" sort of thing, like they did to a few of the other kids at my school.

If you determine that it is my fault, the tables turn again...
I took an official visit to Penn, while there I had a meeting with the head of nursing set up by the coach. She had expressed an interest in me to the coach after my pre-read passed. We met for over an hour, I'd guess 90-100 minutes, talking purely about my interests within nursing, my qualifications, and why Penn matched me well. She took notes all of which she made able for me to read (they were basic: women's recruit, hospital volunteer, strong sense of academic goals, etc.), and told me that the form she was going to fill out after I left would be put in my application file. This gave me another reason to believe that Penn was satisfied with the interview portion of my application, for this meeting was still 4 1/2 weeks before ED decisions.

I had a coded application which would not...or rather, was not suppose to allow me to be rejected. At the worst I was suppose to be deferred to regular admission where I would either be accepted...or yet again, at the worst wait-listed. Aside from the fact that Penn may have considered my application incomplete, I have no reason to believe that I did anything wrong, or for that matter anything large enough to break the agreement under the coded application. To add to my shock, when I had my pre-read done...it passed with my ACT at that time. When I applied my ACT was three points higher and I was rejected.

Any thoughts?

IVY admissions are unpredictable ...U never know what happens and why .
believe me there is No sure shot acceptance gurantee no matter what u r and what ur app is........

Dont get angry. be calm and cool and apply to other places. u wil get in at sum gr8 place..dont worry...

SM

just posting so that i don't get notifications in this thread any longer

i agree with smart mind.. although i havent applied anywhere yet. I plan an transfering to harvard, upenn, and/or mcgill , and newyork university.. im mostly relying on luck and oppurtunity.

Does the notification of a complete application also mean Upenn received the finaid form 6 also?

i would assume so. of course, if they didn't have that they'd let u know

I'm planning to give a shot at transfering next year into Penn (assuming that I don't like my current school), and I was wondering if the Dean and HS counselor recommendations are optional or required.

Thanks.

grandpabuzz : no offense but do u realize that u just revived a thread that was idle for about 6 months? So you are talking to ghosts. Carry on, sorry that i interrupted.

argh when is penn going to have its supplement online??

that's why they call em grandpa! i'm just kidding.

you people need to laugh.

Q: How many of you are sending supplemental pages outlining ECs that don't fit into the six lines provided on the app? If you don't do this, are you at a disadvantage?
And are you all writing an essay about your most meaningful commitment?

Im doin the p.217 essay
