****PITT CLASS OF 2021 DECISIONS THREAD****

Update: Got the email inviting me to apply for guaranteed Med program!

@hailtopitt1787 Will they wait until I submit my PA Scholars app for Stamps/Nordenberg before reviewing me for the general scholarships, the ones that range from 2k to full tuition? I don’t remember if I had to check a box or something indicating that I would be sending the PA scholars app. Also are the review processes separate for general scholarships and Stamps/Nordenberg or is it all decided at once?

@hailtopitt1787 I am from out of state. Do I need to apply FAFSA before I will be considered for merit scholarships?

@hopeforthebest82, Our Financial Aid office recommends that you file your FAFSA by March 1 at the latest.

@class0f2017, Once you complete the application, you will be considered for Stamps/Nordenberg.

From there on, for Nordenberg, the process is as follows:
Representatives of the University of Pittsburgh Office of Admissions and Financial Aid and the Division of Student Affairs will interview a select number of semifinalists by March 1. Recipients of the Nordenberg Leadership Scholarships will be notified of their selection on or before April 1.

For Stamps:
The University of Pittsburgh will interview up to 20 Stamps Leadership Scholarship Semifinalists by March 1. Finalists will then be interviewed by representatives of the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation who will make the final selection of five recipients. Recipients of the Stamps Leadership Scholarships will be notified of their selection on or before April 1.

Best of luck!

@hailtopitt1787 , Do you know when the Tuition Exchange scholarships will be reviewed and awarded?

@bobofBowie, Are you interested in coming to Pitt on a Tuition Exchange Scholarship or does your parent work at Pitt and you are applying to other schools? That will affect the timeline, each school works a little differently. For students coming to Pitt, you must apply by December 15 and will be notified if you received a scholarship by the end of February.

You can get more information about Tuition Exchange and the contact information for our financial aid staff (if you have more questions) here: https://oafa.pitt.edu/financialaid/academic-scholarships/tuition-exchange-program/

@hailtopitt1787 Mom works at Gettysburg College. We will have to get them to send the application over. Thanks for all your help.

@bobOfBowie, Happy to help! If you come across more questions, please feel free to call our Financial Aid office. They will be happy to help you out with the process.

How long does it usually take after the portal says you can accept admssions to get an official email/letter?

@DJcoco11 It will be a week or so.

Thanks, btw from this can I imply that I was accepted

@bobOfBowie Just FYI we were told that last year they received over 325 applications for the approximately 20-25 Tuition Exchange scholarships that they had available. They also said this via email:

We will begin reviewing Tuition Exchange Applications in early February for the 2017-18 academic year and notify students by the end of February if they will be offered the Tuition Exchange Scholarship.

In recent years, scholarship eligible students possessed ALL of the following:
• minimum SAT score of 1450 (math and critical reading scores only) or 33 ACT (Math and English subscores average)
• overall ‘A’ average
• top 5% class rank (if applicable) while participating in challenging high school curriculums consisting of AP/IB/Honors courses

@DJcoco11 - Yes

@Dolemite wow, kind of stingy. I think Gettysburg awards TE to 100% of accepted applicants. At least they did last year. My son would be borderline with those stats :frowning: . With or without, my son is still headed to Pitt. Awesome school that really cares about the students and future students @hailtopitt1787 is a good example of that.

Schools balance Tuition Exchange awards based on how many students of employees go elsewhere. So basically every year 20-25 students of employees of Pitt go to other TE schools so they give that many to incoming students. The problem is that Pitt is extremely popular for TE and gets way more requests then they have going out.

Accepted
Applied october 5th
Decision released October 20th

Rank 7/387

@hailtopitt1787 is the bioengineering major very difficult to get into or just an unpopular major because the description said there is approximtely 50 undergrad students in a class every year?

@COof2017HH, It is not unpopular! The class size is determined by how many students the program accommodates. To get an idea of how the program works, I would recommend getting in touch with current students who are in the program. The Swanson School has a number of Engineering Ambassadors: http://www.engineering.pitt.edu/ambassadors/

Our office also employs Pitt Pathfinders (student tour guides), some of whom are in the engineering program. http://www.pathfinders.pitt.edu/

Will the admissions officers be reading the entire application before making a decision? My grades are not terrible, but certainly are not the best because of some problems I went through in Sophomore year. My Extra curriculars are very good though, and my Act is a 35. I have also taken the most challenging classes at my school.
Will I be able to make up for the bad gradse with these? How will a not-the-best ranking affect my admissions? (Still top 15% but I expected to be top 5%)

@bobOfBowie Pitt gives their own employees tuition exchange, but you can’t expect them to offer it to every student whose parent works at a (different) college.
