****PITT CLASS OF 2021 DECISIONS THREAD****

@oliver17 I was thinking of possible learning disabilities. You could try sending his first quarter grades, and see if they would reevaluate him.

Very happy DS got the acceptance video today - but it does not seem to mention Swanson Engineering which he applied to. So not sure what he is accepted to just yet.

@oliver17 - I just read your post & rally feel for you / your son. He is obviously extremely bright but as you say, took awhile to mature. I like mommdc’s suggestion if it might be possible - worth a try.

@CA1543 congrats! You should be getting a letter as well.

@CA1543 --the letter will arrive via regular mail and it will contain the specific school information. CONGRATS again!

Thanks so much @carachel2 and @momdc - appreciate it. We’ll be on the lookout.

But I am sad for @oliver17 - my DS18 is young for his grade & does not seem to really “get it” when it comes to studying and staying on top of things - he is bright (doesn’t nearly as bright as @oliver17’s DS) but there much room for growth. He will have some major disappointments next year I fear. I suppose the good news for DS of @oliver17 is that is now on the right track and the internship was so impactful (a very good thing) - I would think some good LoRs from teachers & a GC who can attest to this hugely positive change in attitude/understanding of how things work & the importance of strong grades (in addition to mastering the subject) will really help for apps going forward and on the CA there is a place to provide a little “explanation” of any circumstances that impacted him which possible could be used.

Hey guys (:
I know many already asked it before but when my pitt portal says “This application is complete.”
Does it mean they received all the required materials or they’ve finished reviewing my app?
Thanks in advance !

@IamSleepy they have all your materials. You should be receiving a decision relatively soon!

DD didn’t realize she could have applied much earlier, so only completed application last Friday. Anyone know when she might get GAP invitation?

@oliver17 I feel ya, just got my re evaluation for Dietrich email which means no swanson for me. I’m 3rd in my class out of 235. 5 AP classes with a 4.4 weighted qpa. 1260 New SAT . 680 math 580 reading. My belief is that it’s my sat scores. I worked very hard to get here, I’m friends with many engineers and teach much of what I already know to myself through books and internet. Very discouraged. I’m going to reply and ask if there is a waiting list to show that I’m really interested. If not, I’ll make the most at Dietrich and transfer over. Everything happens for a reason.

@IamSleepy, “Application Complete” means that we have all of your materials and will review your application shortly. It should take a few weeks more for you to hear back.

Best of luck!

@dbutler, can you take the ACT? Might be worth a try.

SSOE understandably has high requirements for getting in, they want to make sure the students are successful.

But there are alternate paths of reaching your goal.

@mommdc took the act and got a 25. If I take it again I’m sure I’ll get another 25. I took the sat 3 times and got the same score.

An admission counselor recently visited my D’s school and said they want a minimum 27 ACT or 1220 new SAT and all A’s -for Dietrich. If you do well in A&S, you can definitely try to transfer into Swanson, but no guarantees. Hope that helps!

@hailtopitt1787 when do the scholarship letters start coming out? I’ve heard from past year posts that they meet weekly starting in November. Is this still the case.

My first post in CC - so excuse any obvious mistake.
My only son applied to Pitt for Dietrich on 10/19. As others mentioned here, in mypitt.edu it shows as “Application Complete”, but today we received the acceptance letter in mail.

@hailtopitt1787 why isn’t the website reflecting this? Also, the acceptance letter do not mention anything about financial aid - when can we expect to know that?

btw - my son is also eligible to participate in the Honors College.
His level stats are - Eagle Scout, NHS, numerous ECS, multiple year voluntary at local hospital, 1500 SAT, 32 ACT, 700 Math Subject test, 800 Chem subject test

@noviceparent, for financial aid consideration you will have to file the FAFSA, and I think award letters start being sent out in February.

Thanks @mommdc. I already filed FAFSA. Lets wait and see.

@DadOfSK, Scholarship letters will be sent out starting this month and will go out weekly through February. Anyone who is selected for a scholarship will hear by March 1.

@noviceParent, Congrats! The portal should reflect the acceptance shortly. If you have any questions about it or it doesn’t switch over in a few more business days, feel free to give our office a call: 412-624-7488. As for financial aid, that information will start to go out in February.

Best,

Is FAFSA needed to be considered for any merit scholarships?

@CA1543, I don’t think FAFSA is required for merit consideration.
