****PITT CLASS OF 2021 DECISIONS THREAD****

Thank you @hailtopitt1787. Quick question re: eligibility.
“earning the highest grade point average available in their high school”
I have a 4.0 UW and 4.96 W GPA. Does “highest” mean I need to be a 5.0 W GPA in order to be eligible?

@MedSciBud, I am not able to comment on your specific chances since I don’t have access to your applicant profile and do not sit on the Committee that makes those decisions. I do know that we look at all of the grades/GPA information you provide when reviewing your application. If you filled out the optional Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR), then you know that we ask for cumulative weighted GPA and unweighted grades for each individual section of the SRAR.

If you have further questions, you are welcome to contact our office: oafa@pitt.edu or 412-624-7488.

@hailtopitt1787 I am a GAP applicant and - despite several reminders - one of my recommenders whom I believed to be reliable did not turn in a letter in the allotted timeframe. Needless to say I am quite upset and I would appreciate it if you could provide an email address of someone I can contact regarding this issue. I tried to email the address provided for inquiries in the invitation email and received an error message. Thank you in advance.

@musiclover214 — I would have my student physically call the office. ASAP. There is a lot on the line! Good luck and congrats!

@hailtopitt1787, Thank you very much !

@musiclover214, I would encourage you to start with giving our office a call: 412-624-7488, as carachel2 suggests.

Best of luck!

@hailtopitt1787. Can I see the scholarship status online.

@rsmith0208 My D’s Scholarship was not listed in psmobile last night when she looked.

@rsmith0208, No, we do not put any scholarship status in the portal. If you are chosen to receive a scholarship, you will get scholarship notification via letter.

@hailtopitt1787 Why I understand that you like to send scholarship notices via postal mail may I suggest that in the future (when you review your operations) you might want to send a followup email alerting the student that Pitt sent an important document in the last week via postal mail and to look for it.

Is scholarship notification based on date applied? So if you applied super early, would you get reviewed for a scholarship first?

@dolemite, Thanks for the suggestion. I will pass it along.

@catsrock17, For the most part, it is. Scholarships are reviewed on a rolling basis, so those who applied earlier will be reviewed earlier. The one catch: it is not at all uncommon for the Scholarship Committee to review a student multiple times before making a decision, so some students who applied earlier will hear a little later. Bottom line, anyone who is selected for a scholarship will hear by March 1 at the latest.

Best of luck, all!

Got the acceptance email/video yesterday and the letter today which said she was admitted into the school and eligible for the honors college. It said that more info about the honors college would follow, as well as merit information, if she qualifies. The portal hasn’t changed yet to show acceptance.

Good luck everyone!

Huge congrats to your DD @mageecrew – happy for you too.

@hailtopitt1787 Hi, for GAP, is the november 15 deadline the date to apply to Pitt by? If I submitted my Pitt application today, is it too late to be invited for GAP?

@hailtopitt1787 Regarding your earlier quote, included below for reference, if the student’s school has a no rank/ no gpa policy is it okay to leave the gpa section blank and only provide the courses and grades? Will not listing a gpa exclude the applicant from consideration for the honors program?

“We look at all of the grades/GPA information you provide when reviewing your application. If you filled out the optional Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR), then you know that we ask for cumulative weighted GPA and unweighted grades for each individual section of the SRAR.”

@CA1543 Thanks!!! Congrats to you and your DS as well

@shiftydraw, Yes, November 15 is the date to apply to Pitt. If we have your application, app fee, test scores, and Self-Reported Academic Record or transcript by November 15, then you will be considered for the GAP. Make sure that you indicated an interest in the pre-med or bio-engineering on your application. If you are selected to apply for the GAP, you will be contacted about it!

@paveyourpath, Please just make sure you check the boxes under the GPA/Class Rank section of the Self-Reported Academic Record that say “my school does not calculate or report GPA” and “my school does not provide rank information.” We will then be able to take that into account when reviewing for admission, honors, scholarships, etc.
