@hailtopitt1787 when will I know if I have received any need based financial aid or a merit scholarship? Is that sent out along with my admissions decision, or will I be notified after?
You can read here to see if you are likely to get any merit scholarships. H2P says notifications will go out through March.

Financial aid will come out early spring from what has been mentioned in previous posts.
thank you!

Not certain if I’ll get in, but here are my stats:
1220 SAT (I’m a horrible test-taker)
4.0 GPA unweighted
Rigorous courseload - 7 AP’s - two are independent study
Applying for Bio
I have legacy at Pitt
In state- I live less than an hour from the city
Tons of community service, extracurricluars (sr class president, yag, nhs, softball, rotary, Spanish club, and more), summer jobs (lifeguard), and I have an upcoming position as a lab technician at an environmental lab.
I am very passionate about my future major and the city itself. I made this very clear when answering my prompts.
That’s about it, let me know what my chances are!
@collegeclassof21, Both scholarships and financial aid notification are sent out separately. The Scholarship Committee meets weekly and sends letters Nov-March 1st. Financial Aid letters start going out to those who have filled out their FAFSA in February.

Hi. Is the Admissions office open this week?
@nothingworks101, We will reopen on Jan 3.

How long does it typically take to receive an admission decision?
Also, if an application was submitted on December 1st, but the SAT scores and high school transcript were not received by admissions until after the 15th, the cutoff for merit-based scholarship consideration, does this mean that the deadline was missed?
@nirenenels, We do require that all materials are submitted by December 15 for scholarship consideration. You can contact our office with any questions about your application and supporting materials: 412-624-7488 or oafa@pitt.edu.
As for turn-around time, it typically takes around 3 weeks or so from the time we receive everything for an admissions decision to be made. Our office was closed from Dec 23-Jan 3, so that may add a little time to your wait.
Best of luck!

@hailtopitt1787 when does the Financial aid office start sending out financial aid packages? Thank you.
I recently received a letter from Pitt asking for my first semester / mid-year grades. With the end of the semester, I ended up with a 4.3 weighted GPA with a B in Calculus, A- in AP English IV, A in Honors Physics, and an A in an elective class, college research. I also have a 31 superscore on my ACT, and my cumulative GPA is a 3.77. In addition, I applied to Swanson. How will my 4.3 GPA this semester affect my chances of getting in and, overall, am I a strong candidate for Pitt engineering? Thank you very much.
Also, does Pitt want to see an upward trend in my GPA? Also, will that increase in my GPA in regards to my cumulative push me over the edge into Swanson?
@dancermom79, For those who have filled out the FAFSA, financial aid packages will start going out in February to incoming freshmen.

@hailtopitt1787, what percentage of applicants are typically accepted when mid-term grades have been selected?
@concerned2017, I don’t know the exact percentage, but it is not uncommon. Best of luck!
My son’s mid-semester grades are about to come out. I assume he has to have the high school counselor submit the grades for him is this correct?
I also read something about a recommitment letter on this thread, what is this or is this something that my son could or should do?
@ellmom, Yes, please have your guidance office send the grades once they are out. You can expedite this process by having them fax the grades to us at 412-624-4138.
We do not require letters of recommendation for admissions review (we do require them for a handful of specific scholarship applications, which is probably what the posts you saw were referring to). If your son filled out the short answer questions, the admissions committee really finds those responses to be more helpful in the application review process than recommendation letters.
Hope that helps clarify!
